Default Have you succesfully removed stretch marks?

I've browsed on the forum quite a bit but couldn't really find what I was looking for. I have very thick stretch marks (about a year old) that I think are kind of beyond repair by creams. Also, I'm a little skeptical about rubbing $50 creams on my marks (that cover a pretty big area of my body- all over my belly, boobs, thighs, inner thighs & ass) 4 times a day. A little tube would probably last me 5 days.

I was wondering if anyone here has tried laser removal, dermarollers or chemical peels, pretty much the 'hard' stuff to remove stretch marks, and how it worked out for you and what you ended up paying. I really hope there's some success stories because I'm so sick of seeing these damn scars every time I look down. Thanks in advance!

Idk, I have some slight stretch marks, but they are small, faded, clear (though slightly irridescent in some lights), but my overall skin is in good condition. I thought about doing laser, but I don't think it would do anything.

I think you're pretty much going to have to have the skin cut out if you want it gone. Otherwise, it'll depend on you having genetically elastic skin (skin thats tight & in good shape) and letting time pass so the stretch marks fade to clear. If yours are red/purple, or the skin is saggy but repairable, laser would probably help. Since you have it over large chunks, if you also have saggy or non-elastic skin, various surgical tucks (tummy tuck, etc.) should be able to cut majority of it out.

Otherwise, I think its just something you have to live with or you have to get cut out a la Kate Gosselin or Octomom style. Like camille27 said, stretch marks are tears in the skin. You can't put those tears back together, and the tears are very deep where creams, lasers, and chemical peels cannot penetrate.

Your body can repair itself, as long as you give them the right tools. I use raw natural shea butter everyday twice a day and the stretch marks have been disappearing. You will see results within a couple of weeks, do not expect to see changes overnight, it takes time a consistency, but its worth it and cheaper.

Expensive creams do not work! even if they claim to have shea butter, they amount of shea butter the put in is so low that it wont do nothing.
    Hope it helps!

I think the best thing is to be preventive. I had a baby and I do not have any stretch marks whatsoever. However I popped vitamin E pills every night and put them on my tummy. I did that at night and in the morning I put cocoa butter on. Maybe I have a good skin or maybe it was the preventive measures I took I don't know. But whenever I do get pregnant again I'm definitely going to do what I did the first time to avoid stretch marks.

how would you remove what is essentially a slight tear in the skin? or do people simply post what's on their minds without bothering with reason or logic?
    You don't reply at all.
There's no reason to be rude. It's a pretty legit question. There are creams out there that claim to lessen the appearance of stretch marks so why wouldn't there be other methods?

Yeah, you don't seem to have genetic predisposition to them but I do have genetic predisposition to having stretch marks. I had been putting shea butter in my skin everyday (like tropicallust mentions), but I still got them. However, they are very small and aren't very visible so it seems the shea butter will keep on working and by the end of the pregnancy they may be even less visible.

This stuff has actually worked for me, not promoting something, I really think this changed my skin and made it tighter and after a week of applying twice a day I already thought my marks were fading. Expensive, but this brand is reallyyy good I promise. I barely use it anymore but occasionally and I think it upkeeps kind of. I don't need to reapply twice a day once they fade.

I use dermarollers and emu oil. Ive tried soo many other creams or oils or whatever. Stopped at the dermaroller with emu oil because this is really giving me the best results.

I have read to use laser while stretch marks are still red. ( earlier intervention). When the stretch mark is white can still be treated with tretinoin cream by prescription, or lasers. Some say tretinoin is more effective than over the counter retinol creams. And use moisturizer too and tretinoin and retinol creams only at night. Do a search online I don't know what are the particular lasers used for stretch marks. A lady who had a baby said she used cocoa butter from the beginning to end of her pregnancy and has no stretch marks so yes there must be something about keeping skin moisturizer that prevents tears.

When I said I didn't have stretch marks, I meant on my tummy, because of pregnancy. I have one stretch mark on my leg right below my hip bone and some on my butt but the ones on my butt are hardly visible.

I think the OP's question is not what you've heard or what a product advertises. She wants to know if anyone was actually able to get rid of stuff, first person, not some lady or cousin's friends or whatever.

I haven't particularly tried to get rid of the very faint ones I have because they don't bother me really. But I can say that I was pregnant, and got no stretch marks from it. I would shower in the evening, pop vitamin E pills and rub all over my breasts, hips, and abdomen. In the morning I put on cocoa butter. I have no stretch marks on my stomach/hips/breasts.

    Good luck.

I know that although tretinoin cream (Retin A) is topical, it actually does penetrate to the dermis after consistent use, so I could see how it may theoretically work..... combine that with dermarollers I think would be your best bet. Anytime you add injury, it stimulates collagen production. I've had Thermage done on the backs of my thighs, that's also supposed to help with stretch marks, but I've heard mixed reviews.

Thanks for all the replies guys! Personally I don't really believe in prevention, but that is only because during my pregnancy I rubbed my entire belly with all sorts of creams, lotions and oils (I also took vitamin E pills and popped the capsules to rub them on my tummy) but I still have so many thick stretch marks. They have turned white but because they're so thick they're very easy to see.
I was just wondering if there's even any hope of getting rid of them without surgery, because I feel like I've tried a lot of stuff. But the derma roller sounds interesting and I've heard good things about it so I'll give that a try, thanks Jessica! J.D. I'm definitely gonna read into the Retin A too

Exfoliation and dermarollers have shrunk, faded and tightened Tue stretch marks from Hell I got when I breast fed. None on my belly THANK GOD but I went from a B to an E when I was breastfeeding. Anyway, I used baking soda to exfoliate very aggressively on my stretch marks every other night. I mean scrub until you see what start to look like hickies under the skin. That mean you busted a blood vessel, but also damaged the skin underneath. The body will then repair it stronger and tighter. I SWEAR this has lifted my breasts and shrunk ky strtch marks. Derma rollers are a great way to do this faster but I hate the idea of broken skin and being in a strip club.

Sorry about typos. On my phone.

A few years ago I developed these awful bright red stretchmarks that covered the backs of my knees and a little on the backs of my thighs. I got a laser treatment on them, and the lady tried different settings on each leg to see which worked the best. *btw it doesn't hurt, just feels like being flicked with a hot rubber band for 1 sec.

Months after the treatment I didn't really see any difference (She only recommended one treatment). So I think laser can work for some stretchmarks, but it depends on your skin and what the stage the stretch marks are in.
Its about three years later and my marks are completely white/transparent, but I can still feel the groove where they indent.

What i would recommend you try though is dry skin brushing everyday or every other day. It helps blood circulation and lymph flow, and people say that it can reduce cellulite. Also if you can, massage the areas often with raw coconut butter, Shea butter, or biotin oil or something.
good luck! I know what a pain stretch marks can be :/

*oh i also tried rubbing a half of a lemon on them to lighten them and didn't see any difference, best way imo is time+moisturizing skin with oils+lots of circulation
