Crossfingers UPDATE on my Dental Emergency!!!!!!!!!!

Okay....If you haven't already done so, read this post:

    http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...m-about-to-cry!!!!!

    ---------------------------------------------

    Okay ladies--now for the UPDATE:::

I went to another dentist the very next morning and he examined my teeth and said that the temporary filling the other dentist had put in my mouth was unhealthy because it was touching my other tooth. He said I would need general anesthesia and that the anesthesiologist would be in on 6/26/2012. He wasn't even able to barely put his fingers in my mouth to check the tooth in question (tooth number 18 for those who are studying dentistry) without my gag reflex starting up again. Anyways, the billing department gave me a quote of $829.65. This is money that I don't currently have at the moment. To top it off my father's having (more than just) a cow about it.

Also, just a reminder: I had surgery to correct a cleft in my soft pallet when I was 1 year old, so therefore the nerves in my mouth are rearranged. I tried getting the numbing Novocaine, but because of my surgery, I have a rogue piece of gum tissue that will lodge into my gag reflex region, making me dry heave every time I am numbed around tooth 18. There is literally no other way to get this done. General Anesthesia is my only option here!

Anyways, I considered and went through my options, here are the results:

    1. Care Credit: I applied and called the number. They told me I wasn't qualified because I had "insufficient credit history on file". Even with monthly child support payments of $454 they still wouldn't take me.

2 Personal Loans (such as prosper.com, etc.): I applied and was told basically the same thing. Not enough credit history on file.

    3. Local church: They have a "benevolence fund" and said they wouldn't be able to help me pay the bill.

    4. Bank Loans: HA! Not with my credit or lack thereof!

After those three fiascoes, I finally went and created a page at gofundme.com. You'll notice I put more than the $829.65 bill because gofundme.com takes a portion of the funds I raise. I don't have to raise the entire amount listed on gofundme.com, just enough to where after they take their fees, I have the $829.65 to pay the dental bill.

Here's one last thing: I have the appointment on 6/26/2012 at 0800 to get this work done. I am literally sweating bullets over this.

If there is ANY WAY that any of you can help me out on this, IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!

Here is the link to my page on gofundme.com:

    PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I may be crazy, but it seems like you are claiming two contradictory things.

    Here's the first:

If I'm somehow misreading or misunderstanding this, please correct me.

It does seem odd that we suddenly have two "please pay me" posts on the site. One for unnecessary surgery for a pet, the other for a person who doesn't actually need the money.

If I'm somehow misreading or misunderstanding this, please correct me.
Im not sure about the surgery for the pet. I don't think that was my post. As far as the dental treatment--I need that. I have zero money to my name because 350 of the 454 of my child support goes to my father so that I can rent out his basement. That leaves me with a little over 100 each MONTH for gas, clothes for my daughter, etc. The dentist that quoted me the price of 829.65 doesn't accept payment plans.

Here's the example: If I only got the 829.65 raised, then I would end up having less after the gofundme.com website took their percentage of my fundraising. In order to get the 829.65 for the bill, I actually have to raise more than 829.65, so that after gofundme.com took their percentage of my fundraising, I would then have the amount. I don't have that amount currently.

^ Yes, thanks, I get it now, sorry. It was my fault -- I didn't click on the link and see that the amount on gofundme is actually $1,500, so that puts your sentence in a different context.

Does your state have a School of Dentistry nearby? If so they do dental procedures for a much lower rate. Yes, there will be students performing it, but it will be watched by an experienced dentist or oral surgeon. Go call your local university that has a dental school and find it out.

Are you on Medicaid? Medicaid is for people who have limited income. I think it's 19k or less per year. Medicaid plans usually have dental coverage. Look into this for the future.

Maybe try to find a dentist who has installment plans and a free consult. Just pick up your xrays from old doc and bring them to your new doc.

I looked into both. The dental school is 3 hours away--and where I would need general anesthesia and need someone to drive me there and back again--my father would be the driver and he refuses to go that far. (If you only knew the half of it) and yes I am on medicaid. The 829.65 was after medicaid! (crazy isn't it?!?!?!)

I don't have much to add except wow, that is a huge bill. All I know here in Illinois only those with kids get Medicaid which means there are a lot of people who can't get their teeth fixed. It stinks royally. I do not trust Medicaid dentists. I've never been on Medicaid but used to go to a dentist who accepted it. He botched a tooth so badly I had to do general with an ambulance on standby in case the tooth exploded. Many of the doctors who accept Medicaid, at least in Illinois are terrible.

Good luck and research the dentist very carefully.

Have you contacted Medicaid to see if there is any way they can cover more of the cost?

Yeah I don't know. I don't get where a filling touching a tooth is unhealthy. Isn't it touching the tooth it filled? Can you get a third opinion?
I'd be also wary of the surgery costs, make sure that price quoted covers the anesthetist and operating theatre (a friend got caught out on that one).
I think you should at least investigate the dental school. Depending on cost you might still be better off even with staying in a hotel for the night near the dental school? Or get a friend to drive? Taxi?
Sounds like you don't have the luxury of being picky and need to check out every possible option from every possible angle.

Edit, sorry, that came off sounding bitchy, I didn't mean it that way. I've been in shitty situations and sometimes it a choice between crappy option #1 or not at all.

I also don't understand the filling next to tooth unhealthy part.

Is there bus service? Maybe have your dad drop you off at bus station?

I agree get another opinion I think.

That's a tough situation. Big hug hope you figure something out!
