    Default Any cyclists here?

How far do you ride, how often.

and what kind of meals are you eating to prep?

i usually do 60 - 80k rides 2 -3 times a week and then maybe 100k once a month. Now that I have no job, i plan on ramping up training and doing 200km.

there must be some cyclists on here. it's crazy exercise. A ride usually takes up a full daily value of calories.

I have a spin bike at home I use for my cadio needs. I used to ride a road bike converted to single speed (not a fixed gear aka fixie) but my neighborhood is getting shady so I stopped riding and sold the bike.

30-60 minutes of vigorous riding (varying my pace/intensity)

    5 days a week.

    Oatmeal every morning

    green tea

and usually Subway footlong, 6 inch for lunch and 6 inch for dinner.
*Turkey or ham on white bread (read the wheat bread has high fructose corn syrup), all the vegetables, mustard, no oil or vinegar, no cheese, no salt & pepper.

How we supposed to dance for 8-10 hours after using up 2000 calories but good on ya. I personally had cycling. I find it boring. Weights for me. One of my girlfriends does it a lot though (she's not a stripper).

yea you need some serious meals, and lots of sports massages.

I found spinning in a basement or a studio boring but great exercise. Once i went out and bought a road bike, all boredom went away. I LOVE it. I bring my camera where I go, I ALWAYS change up my routes. Just on friday I did a ride and stumbled upon waterfalls!

cliff bars are your friend too.

I do weights too but thats just so i don't get flabby.

The thing with cycling is you're never too old to be in your prime. It takes 10 years to max out your cycling skills apparently. My uncle is 78 and he outrides me in distance and is way faster than me....simply amazing.

Ya I used to bike 20km everyday (to work and back in high school) I seriously ate fast food everyday and still lost weight! Lol. I don't miss it though nor being almost hit by cars nearly every other day. I did used to mountain bike with my ex and I think I miss it but I'm not as brave as I was 10 years ago so maybe not hehe.

I go alone most of the time.

any maybe i'd blast by you and it might suck to you, but you gotta remember, people are blasting by me, and people are blasting by those guys. When you first start cycling, they tell you not to worry about your speed, it's all about time in the saddle. Just ride as often as you can for as far as you can, and speed will come naturally.

Cycling NEVER gets easier, you just get better.

    Yup, there are roadies here

I commute 40mi 5days a week and end weekends with 40-70mi endurance rides plus mountain biking for general handling skills and when I'm sick of pavement. Ride solo and with my club, gotta love muscular thighs in lycra while drafting a clydesdale( you'll meet tons of men cycling since they outnumber ladies 10/1) Currently hill training for a few imperial centuries coming up with good climbing. Once every few months I make trips to throw myself at a mountain lol, you're right- never gets easier, you just put up with more.

Clif bars rock but you can make your own. Bonk breakers are softer and my fav. Nutrition is key with cycling, i do clif bars/shots/gels, Hammer perpetuem when i can't stomach solid food, HEED for same reason, etc etc.

Speed comes when you train for it, slow goes slow, fast goes fast. Starting cycling is more about getting used to the drain and time in saddle, train for what you want to do though eventually you'll find out what kind of cyclist you are. For example, I'm small and should be a great climber- I suck(except descending0. However, I can Time Trial like no one's business. so I train what i suck at.

be warned, you burn a ton but you will turn into a bottomless pit the second you get off bike, just sayin'. And cycling is about as expensive as boating, at least my version is, damn italian carbon fiber lust

    you on RBR or BF?

As for meals, high quality is gold. Heavy protein, moderate carbs before and after. But depends on the ride. On bike-1hr water, 2hrs- a gel or two and sport drink or one banana. 3hr+ food of choice-bar,fruit, candy, space drink, sammich etc just make sure you get some sugar and carbs every 20 mins, a small bite. Obviously adjust to you and weather conditions.

So basically eat healthy nutrient dense food, cycling isn't one of those "you must stay away from this or that" things though the "lite"paleo diet is in vogue on the bike forums.

    Im on BF.

Italian cf lust? Can i assume you ride a pinarello?

    Bikes are crazy expensive.

    I have a LOOK 566 ultegra

Its a more relaxed geometry frame for the endurance rides. i'm 5'8 and 170lbs so not even close to a cyclists body. My thighs are crazy muscular though. i live doing hill climbs as my thighs and core feel like they are twisting and ripping in two. fastest descend i did was 96kmh and it was a white knuckle descend keeping the bike straitht.

My biggest part of cycling is im always so thirsty. no matter where i go in life, i have a bottle of water on me. when i ride, i go through my two botttles before i finish the ride. i just resorted to buying a 3litre camelbak pack.

But yes, im obsessed with cycling. Its pure freedom for me, i find it grueling and hard but at thesame time, my mind is in a state of bliss.

Yea, although I'm not a pro or anything. I just have an old fashioned girls bike. I would eat oatmeal, have an energy drink, abnd bring gatorade. I would ride about 10 miles. I liked it because Id make a sweet playlist on my ipod, and and sometimes see wildlife on the way or find a new trail. Its nice to get out of traffic and smog, espcially around sunset. Around here there is a group that gets together on friday nights and loosely follows each other all over downtown, then meets at the pub at midnite to socalize, get to know new people in the crowd
