    Duh "pick up the pace"

so i still feel compelled to post my dancing woes in the newbie section because i still feel that way, brand new. Im no longer the new girl and since ive been hired 8 others have come and gone... and so has my money the first 2 weeks were great but now im happy with $250. Even the managers mood towards me has changed before he would speak so highly of me now its just kinda like Whatever. Friday night i was pulled aside and was told i need to pick up the pace and keep up with the other girls. By that i took it as more fast booty shaking on stage and less trying to be sexy. Being 5'11 in 6 inch heels on a small stage with an even smaller pole limits my mobility but damnit i make it work. So i kinda was a lil hurt when your basically telling me im not doing my job to the best of my ability. Our shifts are from 3:30 to closing which is about 2am and our stage sets can be anywhere from 12 to 30mins long depending on how many girls.I get burnt out easily by these sets but thats pretty much how everyone makes there money. i need to get my skills up fast esp. in the booty shaking department because apparently thats what all the customers want to see. Any Advice or feedback?

Are you working at an urban club? Do the girls who dance fast and booty shake on stage get the crowd's attention, stage tips, and then go on to sell dances? If yes, speed it up and shake that booty!

However, does your slower dancing get you attention/stage tips/dances? If it's not an urban club, this is a good way of standing out and the way of drawing out the real money. It's more about being slow and sensual, making eye contact and smiling, than what you're actually doing on stage.

Now, did the manager specifically say you need to pick up the pace on stage? He could have been referring to you working the floor. If you're not making as much money as when you first started, perhaps he's noticed that you're hustling slower, standing around without a customer more often, etc., and that's what he was referring to.

my club is very urban it was a former dive that was remodeled to compete with the upscale urban clubs ...i was one of the girls that came in after the entire construction was done. but yeah the girls that seem to make more stage money are shaking it like there life is depending on it...but they dont do dances. i rarely see them hustling for dances some are against it others just feel they dont have to.

I do alot of eye contact and smiling which equals dances...but its the night shift and weekend money thats a lil tough

It sounds like you've got some idea of what type of crowd comes into the club and what works for them. There's nothing wrong with switching up your dance style based on the particular crowd. Like, if there's a lot of older businessmen in the club, I'll dance to some classic rock and dance slowly and sensually. If it's later in the night and there's a lot more younger guys and groups, I'll pick some more modern music and move a bit faster with more big smiles. Like with hustling and lap dances, there's no one style that will be effective all the time!

If I were you, I'd keep doing what you're doing until there's a big young crowd (ie. nights/weekends) and then put on more of a show on stage while still giving eye contact and smiles to sell dances. Lap dances are where the real money is, after all!

I think that you should look up labour laws in your area. Asking you / forcing you to work an almost 12 hour shift is pretty ridiculous. I know that by doing this you are essentially saying goodbye to your job there but it doesn't sound like you'll be able to work there for very long anyway if thats how they treat the girls. May as well start getting them in some legal drama before you burn out and have to quit anyway.

That's what i was thinking... im there 12 hours 4 days a week. 15-30 min stage sets... i get burnt out. im actually home now because i burned my self out . im trying to figure out if theres an easier way. the shifts are 3:30,7:00 and 9:00 but the later shifts are for the older girls and we are told if your new you have to work the happy hour shift.

Probably burns mad calories though? It sounds like you're on stage a lot!

Half hour stage sets? That's ridiculous!
I have a real problem with clubs that impose schedules on the dancers. I can understand a suggestion of time spent there because you don't want girls popping in and out all day but they have absolutely no right to force you to stay in that club when you're not an employee.

so true, i came back on monday after running myself in the ground and taking off a whole week because the stress made me sick . When i worked monday my body felt like the first day i ever worked there. At least it was 15min sets and not 20. im thinking about changing to a more diverse club to be honest im at an urban dive that has recently been remodeled to compete with a big urban upscale club that has taken alot of the customers...ive always enjoyed i diversity and just being in a club that so one-sided really gets me down.

"Pick up the pace" generally translates to "you're one of the lowest earners and not as lucrative an investment". Can you pay your house fees and tip outs in full? Or are you asking for a lot of deals and/or telling tipped staff you can't tip them that night?

I only ask because usually as long as you fulfill your monetary agreements, management doesn't give a rats ass how you dance onstage.

Wow, In Australia 8-12 hr shifts are the norm (in Melbourne at least). Most clubs I work at have 20 in podiums too.

Shanna D and Mediocrity make excellent points.

I have another suggestion- lower platforms. Not only are they easier to dance in, they are kinder on your feet. With your height you don't need 6in heels (IMO). Can I Suggest http://www.shoes-of-hollywood.com.au...flair-401.html, http://www.shoes-of-hollywood.com.au...-vogue-01.html. I am 5'9 and don't really need the boost of high platforms.

During your time off check out some other clubs in your area and see how long the shifts are, how fast you're expected to dance/hustle. I haven't seen a situation where a manager is going on about dancing faster or hustling faster. It looks like they micro manage the girls at that club. Some managers think the customers all want the exact same thing when they don't. Some like fast dancing some like slow dancing. Some like a fast hustle while others like a slow hustle. Did the 8 girls leave because they didn't like the club or didn't make money or were fired?
