Default How long/often do you work out??

I just started going to the gym and I'm only there for an hour.
I do about 45 minutes of cardio and 10 minutes using the weight machines (to tone my arms and legs)...is this enough??
I plan on going at least 5 days a week, but am really only able to be there for an hour..mayyybe an hour and a half some days.
    (because of my kids)

At home, I'll do what I can to keep moving. Whether it's cleaning, chasing my kids or doing Zumba or playing Just Dance or at home work out videos.

I guess I'm just worried that it's not enough though... :/
I eat fairly well too...if that helps.

So, how often you all work out?
    For how long?
What is the best length of time to get maximum and the quickest results for weight loss and toning? (if that makes sense)

Well... would you count not driving as working out? Lol. I seriously want to get a step counter because i swear i walk so much every day. Hopefully that counts for something! Plus...my child is allergic to using her own legs to walk so i always end up lugging her around while i'm on foot--so maybe that counts towards upper body?

About an hour a day 5 days a week soundsblike it would be enough, but i could be soooo wrong about this! Lo,

I think it just depends what you're doing on the gym. 1 hour should be fine, just make sure you push yourself extra hard during that hour. Speed up the elliptical. Start to increase what you weight lift (but not too sudden as you don't want to freak out or injure your muscles). Once I'm off meds, I'm going to be back in the gym 5 days a week, and I was only planning on an hour to 1.5 every day.

    Stretch for about 10-15 mins
1 hr eliptical or alternate with treadmill or stair climber. Or do 30 mins of each.
If I know I can't make it to the gym I walk to work or do some situps at home. Or have really rough sex.

I would add stretching too. I LOVE stretching, and yoga could be a good addition to your workout. I can't make it to the gym every day here, so I walk a lot, and do zumba or yoga or pole dance at home for an hour or 90 minutes, and when I get to the gym I do lots of weights to make up for the non-weightlifting I do at home. But I swear the yoga DVDs I do make me almost as sore as weight training days!

Just so you know, Netflix Instant Stream has good workout videos. Anyways, I usually focus on cardio and dancing because it burns a lot of calories and I enjoy it. I'll workout for 10 minutes or a few hours, it depends on how I feel.

I used to exercise a lot during college. After i started working i neglected my body. I tried to get back into working out by doing an hour a say at the gym but i wasnt seeing any improvement. I think this calls.for drastic measures lol

I need to lose a sh*& ton of weight so I have been trying to hit the gym 5-7 days a week most of the time. I have a weight loss goal of more than 30lbs so yeah I have to go hard.lol My workouts are about 60-120minutes but not consecutively......However, honestly I mostly do the 60minutes at the gym in morning and then about another 30minutes at home later in the evening...

Even if I am slacking which I do, I still try to get atleast the 60minutes in 5 days a week and then atleast 15minutes in 3days a week at the very minimum..

At the gym I usually do alot of cardio on different machines to change it up.
At home I do mostly circuit/interval training ( combo of cardio and strength training) and watch some workout videos online or something.
I have the dumbbells, speed/weighted rope, and resistant bands for this.*need to get a few more stuff though*

I start off with dynamic stretching( to warm up and stretch before working out) and end with static stretching ( gain flexibility) ....

But this has been working for me....and I am already seeing results..I combine that with a nutrition plan and it seems to be working so far..... I am just kind of learning as I go what works best...but since I have alot of weight I want to lose I am kind of going a bit extreme with the working out..=/

I would like to lose about 3 more pounds and just tone up overall.
No flab when I wave my arm lol
    and no thigh jiggle.

I realize I'm the only one who notices that stuff, but would feel even better if everything was super tight and toned.

Based on this, I think you need to:

-Reverse your workout. Do 45 mins of weights and 10 mins of cardio, instead of the other way around. (And PUT THE PINK DUMBBELLS DOWN! Lift HEAVY weights-- so that you are physically UNABLE to do more than 8 reps of anything**).

    -Clean up your diet.

    Done.

now that I'm 'retired', I've cut back on my workouts to 45 minutes a day 5 days a week. I alternate the daily workouts between my TotalGym, Treadmill, free weights / resistance bands, cardio (video), and quasi-yoga ( video ). When I was still actively dancing / camming / featuring, I used to work out at least an hour a day.

If you're only try to lose 3 lbs and tone up, you need to do more weightlifting, as Jessica101 said.

Sorry to threadjack Avery, but I've hit a fitness block. I'm still eating good (minus the one cheat day on my period last week) and going an hr 5x a week but I haven't lost any more weight. I haven't gained any either. I'm just plodding along now. What am I doing wrong?

I also broke through a plateau by running four miles a day, five days per week.... but then I became too thin and lost muscle. Now I have been lifting heavy and cutting back on cardio, but my thighs have gotten huge! So now I am doing something totally different from all of that, per my trainer, I am WALKING on the treadmill for one hour with the incline up to 30. I also will do 30 minutes of that alternated with 30 min on the stair stepper, not holding on. I cut way back on my weights, I am doing more pilates type exercises, like the ab wheel thing, and tons of lunges with no weight. Like hundreds of lunges, to where it's boring as hell.

I couldn't agree more with this! Contrary to what most women think, it is extremely difficult to bulk up like a man if you lift heavy. Women have about 1/16 the testosterone of men, so you wont get "bulky" from lifting heavy weights.

I find that the magazine MUSCLE AND FITNESS HERS is the best! They have exact meal plans and excercise routines that will get you in the best shape of your life! I'm currently following one of their plans and have lost 10lbs so far !

Definitely suggest you give the website or magazine a look. You won't wind up looking like the women on the cover either, as they have been doing this for years...but for sure you will look amazing and get in the best shape of your life!

Oh, duh. Forgot to add that in terms of resources (education, concrete advice), anything by this guy is great:

(Or just google Tom Venuto and poke around. His newsletters and articles are great.)

I hit an exercise rut where yoga and elliptical wasn't doing shit except for setting me up to overeat, so I switched up my routine.

I am getting REALLY great results recently with these factors:
    1) low-glycemic, medium-low calorie diet (1000-1300 calories/day)(veggies, veggies, more veggies, fish, some fruits, avocado, coconuts, small amounts of dairy)
    2) 1-2 green juices throughout the day -- i have electrolyte issues so this helps me stay balanced and hydrated.
    3) a ballet conditioning workout for an hour a day 3-5 days/week. This shit looks easy but it is the hardest workout I have ever done and targets places that other workouts never reached. I'm just starting my second week and have already gotten awesome results. It's kind of expensive but so worth it. I've never purchased a workout dvd before but I'm so glad I got this one. Check the link, other people have given it great reviews as well: http://www.amazon.com/Ballet-Beautif.../dp/B0068O312Q

What definitely hasn't worked for me: Bikram yoga (holy thunder thighs), weightlifting (bulked in some spots, flabby in others), high carb raw vegan diets, most grains.

I'm trying to lose 27 pounds, 17 of which are left from pregnancy (six weeks postpartum). I started working out three days a week (at a minimum) last week, my first weigh in I had lost three pounds. Mondays I work out almost all day, Like literally from 6am to about 9 at night with breaks in between to take care of my daughter and eat. That is the day I hit everything, and finish up with swimming. The rest of the week its just regular work outs on the treadmill and Pilates maybe yoga if I feel like it. I'm kind of an all or nothing type of girl.

You might want to try skin brushing, while it's not exercise it helps with weight loss. From what I read it helps but moving lymphatic fluid. My sister lost her pregancy weight when she started brushing her skin. She doesn't think so but her skin appearance has improved.

    Hi Avery!

I workout five days a week for roughly two hours (weekends off usually surfing which is a great workout). What works for me is changing my routine so I don't become bored doing the same thing every day.

    For example:

    Monday:
One hour on the Cross Trainer
45 minutes on the weight machines (legs, arms, glutes) on low weights/level (nothing more then 25pds and lots of repetitions).
Ab workout with TRX suspension straps/ropes

    Tuesday:
    Bikram Yoga

    Wednesday:
    Spin class (One Hour)
45 minutes on the weight machines (legs, arms, glutes)
Ab workout with an exercise ball

    Thursday:
    Boxing class or Yoga

    Friday:
    Cross Trainer; One hour
    Weight machines
    Ab workout (TRX or ball)

What works for me with regards to toning, again, low weights, lots of "slow and hold for a second" repetitions (hope that made sense).

If you don't have time to hit the gym you may want to checkout any workout DVD by Tracy Anderson. You can preview some of her Ab workouts on You Tube.

30-45 min run 6-7 days a week. Sometimes I miss a day. I hate the gym, and I live right on a lake. Works out well. If it's raining or too cold (if I run in the cold I end up wheezing a lot) I do 30-45 mins of indoor aerobics.
