I don't mean this to come off as offensive, but haven't you mentioned having issues with eating disorders in the past? I don't recall the post or context, but I felt like I've read something like that from you. Apologies if I'm mistaken, but I wouldn't say a fast is a great weight-loss solution for anyone, but particularly someone with a history of eating disorders. I think you were also in a thread about being addicted to soda and I feel you on that. After I moved in with my SO, my eating habits went back to shit and I've gained 7lbs since January. I just recently began cutting out sodas and other refined sugars and feel like shit so far, but I really think that working to make better eating/lifestyle choices is the best option.
Having said that, this study on the subject of long-term fasting is interesting: http://pmj.bmj.com/content/49/569/203.abstract
It's from this thread: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...1315331&page=1 the video is odd, but interesting too.

Ah, okay. JK about the eating disorder then. You have to go to YouTube to find the full series that the video in that thread is a part of. Good for you for giving up soda. I was off them for a long time, then just slipped back into them because they were there. We stopped buying them a few weeks ago though, so I've been good--so far.
Here's a better link if you want to read beyond the abstract of that study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2495396/
My friend who is very into yoga and things of that ilk did a fruit cleanse as part of "40 Days to Personal Revolution". The 40 days includes yoga, meditation, journaling and dietary awareness. The fruit part is 3 days and you eat nothing but fruit. There are several variations on this theme that you can research on the internet but to me it seems pretty cool. I have no nutritional training and I honestly don't know shit about this (haha) but it's only 3 days and it's fruit so I figure it can't be harmful like some crazy cleanses.
I have always wanted to try this and Summer seems like a great time to be eating fresh fruit so maybe I'll give this a whirl.

you can also do fat fasting, i've done that before and lost 7 lbs in 4 days (granted, i was bloated as fuck at the start) and then ended gaining back 3.
basically you just eat coconut oil, heavy cream, avocado, mayo, tuna, nuts...at 1000 calories or under.
google it for more info.
Have a look at IF - intermittant fasting, or leangains - a form of IF where you fast for 16hrs and then reload during an 8-10 hr period.
Or 'Eat-stop-eat' which is pretty much as it sounds!
All of these have been done by people who want to cut fat without losing any muscle. I personally think it's great and have had fantastic results![]()

I am defiantly interested in finding out more about this stuff. I want to fast too. I need to get all this poison out of my body.

Ooh, I thought you meant like the hardcore not eating at all kind of fasting, not cutting out a certain type of food or just sticking to one. I understand now and think that's a much better idea for someone like you who doesn't have obesity issues. I agree with BOTM about the carb fast. If you go on one, I might just join you. I mostly just eat complex carbs, but I slip up here and there. It'd probably be good for me to take a break entirely.

this is a link that explains it...instead of excluding fat it's eating almost 100% fat. sounds backwards considering all the low-fat propaganda out there but a lot of people have great results and it can help get through plateaus.

I fast every day. I fast for 16 hours then eat within 8 hour window. This doesn't mean I eat anything I want. I eat fruits, vegetables, grains and meat. I tend to eat a high fat meal though. I use coconut oil ( it helps with weight loss), olive oil and small amount of flax seed oil.
I have tried eat stop eat which is fasting for 24 hours once of twice a week. It didn't suite me. I found not eating breakfast help with addiction to sugar and over eating. I have more energy. I don't need to do a ton of cardio.
Anyways here is the link to the site. You will have to search around for the information. Martain does take clients but he charges a high fee I think it's around $800 for a week, it is longer than a week you get a reduced rate but there's a long wait listing.

You girls inspired me to do a fast. I started yesterday. I am doing this
http://blueprintcleanse.com/
I am not ordering from the company (it is $50+ a day). Instead, I did research online and found how to do it myself.
I am hoping that I am able to stick to it. Last night when I went to bed I was sooooo dizzy!

I've never fasted completely, but my nutritionist recommended a detox program that changed my LIFE. I used Metagenics Ultra Clear Renew (http://www.metagenics.com/products/a...traClear-RENEW), which is a powdered detox supplement full of all kind of good stuff. you mix it with water (or juice) and drink a certain amount of scoops 2-4 times a day for either 10 days or 30 days. it comes with a recommend menu which requires slowly eliminating junky foods til you're just eating fruits and vegetable for a couple of days, then gently reintroducing them. I didn't follow the menu perfectly, but I really tried, and I did end up fasting quite a lot just simply because I felt great and didn't want any food with all of the nutrients I was getting from the Metagenics. I never felt like shit, I felt great afterward, it cleared up my acne like WOAH, and helped fix some really bad digestion issues. I did it twice back to back (two containers) and now I just put a scoop or two in my protein/supplement shake most mornings. I love it!!! I won't go without it. I'd die without my Metagenics, and also this Dr Wilson's adrenal fatigue formulas (http://www.adrenalfatigue.org/progra...fatigue-stress). These combined with fresh vegetables and a shitload of water, I'm finally feeling healthy again![]()

I've done 4 days juice fast with 3 days water fast afterwards. Juice fast was very easy just drink as much as you want, using fresh low carb vegetables, you drink water but nothing else. You can use some carrot but not too much. Never slowed my metabolism. You probably want to do your days off it's hard to do while you dance.

That's dead juices. The nutrients and enzymes are gone. Plus to do a proper juice fast you shouldn't use fruits because they are high in sugar, it's hard if you use fruit juices. Too much sugar is acidic. Vegetables to watch for, beet and carrots. Also don't use too much celery they are high in salt. Other vegetables should be fine.
I've used the blueprint cleanse many times I love it. They deliver the fresh juice to your door in the morning and everything is ready, I love it! Check out their website

Nope. It's better to do colonics. Enemas are pretty hard to do and not as effective as colonics. I have done enemas before it's a real pain and hard to do.
It's easier to fast if you eat more fruits and vegetables and when breaking a fast always eat light on the first day. ITt cost me about $15/day if I went organic it would be heck a lot more. If you can find local farmers market you can get a good deal. It is not ideal to fast in the winter time especially when it's longer than a few days since you need foods that warm you.
If you're using non organic vegetables you can body vegetable wash at your local grocery store.

Today has been a week for me since I started a juice cleanse.
I can't even begin to express how much I mentally feel better. I have been struggling with depression for some time now and this has almost 100% cleared it up. I have so much energy. Some nights it is hard for me to go to sleep since I have so much energy. I have been taking Melatonin to deal with that.
Also, a nice side effect is that my period came on time this month. Usually my periods are 5-6 weeks apart. I am ALWAYS late. I was shocked when it came on time this month.
I really don't care if I lose weight or not with this cleanse. I just want to feel better and I do.
However, I weighed myself and I have lost 9 lbs in a week. I will update you next Friday.![]()

Normally i bow out of the body business arguements and try to avoid citing articles from wikipedia but i know i have seen this in other more credible sources:(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anorexia_nervosa)The average caloric intake of a person with anorexia nervosa is 600–800 calories per day
if your diet is inhibiting your ability to perform in daily tasks, it is probably no good for you. a good diet should be healthy and make you feel more energetic and able to function better.
doing crazy restrictive diets WILL bite you in the ass later. trust me, ive been there. at some point your ability to look at food in a normal way is going to completely go away and it is going to be very hard to get back to being able to live on a normal diet and use food as normal fuel to help your body function healthily instead of it being something severely tied in with emotions and body image.
maybe instead of doing a diet that gets in the way of your school work, take up a sport or hobby that you like, burns calories, and keeps your mind off of things related to food?
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.
You should look into the hcg diet if you're interested in fasting. Its not a complete fast, but you only eat 500 calories a day of protein, fruit, and vegetables.
