Default problems with just cam it/flash/mac/os lion

Hello and first off thanks to everyone for this great forum. I've been reading for a little while and learning useful stuff.

I've searched the forum and can't seem to find an answer to the problem I am having so here goes.

I've recently bought a new mac book pro (previous to this ive been camming on an old mac power book) When I bought the new mac I thought 'yipee, my technology problems will be over!' How wrong I was!!

So running OS Lion, and camming on AW using the JCI lite version. Speed and quality are good except I have a repeated problem with JCI appearing to partially crash. It's so weird - I can hear the chimes of text being entered by people in my chat room but the chat entered never shows up in the chat box, also I can type in text from my side but when I press 'enter' the text just stays where it is.

My cam feed keeps on running, Ive even been in a c2c with some one and still been able to see thier cam.....except the timer stops working alongside the chatbox function. This is happening around every 8 minutes, but it's not predictable...sometimes its that long, sometimes 2 minutes, sometimes it chugs along for 20.

Ive looked at a lot of the flash user forums as well as on here, I have tried restting the amount of storage JCI can use on my computer - no joy.

AW and JCI support have said its a bandwidth issue ?? which is weird cos im getting decent frame rate an all.
Plus my old mac which is running the obsolete version of JCI is doing fine just it seems to defeat the point of having a new machine.

*have also tried using google chrome instead, no real diff.

any help would be greatly appreciated xx

have you tested your line speed (and if you aren't already don't cam via wireless but via a cable connection to your router)

this is the official bt place to check your line speed out http://speedtester.bt.com

it is also worth raising a log with your isp if you feel speed is slower than anticipated, mine was capped at my local exchange to about a third of the bandwidth i was paying for, due to an oversight. quickly rectified.

it is also worth noting that whilst you may have good broadband speed it is not always applied equally amongst the things you want to do online. camming / gaming vs general browsing, streaming movies, etc etc.

i use plusnet and they have plusnet+ where you pay an extra sum per month (quite small) and it boosts your connection for gaming, which also benefits camming. less dropped packets of data equal better performance.

*sigh.... you have my comiserations, and yes I don't think it IS a bandwidth issue, more it was tech supports way of saying 'we don't want to deal with this'. User forums are full of people reporting problems between Lion and flash.... but as yet haven't found a lasting solution.

My tech guy is on it but its so darn frustrating, I'm camming at the mo on my old powerbook and it's clunky!! Still a reliable machine is better than the fast, super clear *crashing* one

Currently I'M one of the people saying 'should have bought a PC'!!! I love the user interface/feel really lost with PC's but yes camming with a Mac has been one nightmare after another. meh...

i have an idea however i'm not certain if it'll fix your problem but it may be worth a go,whats to lose eh? you can often set up your computer with something called vmware for instance you can have running on your mac, something that looks like windows, to everything that interfaces with it

have a read of these links, might help explain it a bit better. i knwo you houldnt have to do this but if this is the answer to your problem, why not. cheaper than buying another computer and think of all the time saved pulling your hair out in frustration!

Thanks for the suggestion naughtybekie, Ive tried running a parallel system on my mac using 'bootcamp', unfortunately for some reason the whole thing kept freezing. Plus I have a logitech webcam for macs - so the drivers for the cam don't function on the parallel 'windows type' system....meaning the cam runs, but without the internal mac drivers balancing light/colour I look like HELL on cam.

I will have a stare at the links you have given and may return to trying to debug running a parallel if all else fails in mac vs flash land.

I'm really kicking myself for buying another mac right now, but I guess I never imagined that a brand new machine with totally up to date software and all would cause so many problems.

Yes babe the logitec on a mac is plug & play and as far as I can see there is none of the usual software that one usually employs to make such adjustments

from adultwork. please see last paragraph

JustCamIt is designed for PCs only. For Mac users and PC users without the required permissions to install JustCamIt, an Adobe Flash web-based version of JustCamIt can be found here: http://www.videochat.tv/.

We must stress that the installable version gives far better video quality and uses/requires less bandwidth.

Mac users that can install Windows Emulation software (such as VirtualPC or Parallels Desktop), should use this software before attempting the Flash version.

Naughtybekkie, thanks but I've been using the streaming version of jci for around a year, have no complaints in that regard. As I have said earlier in the thread I've tried the parallel solution.

What I am currently lookimg for are any solutions to the problems between OS Lion and adobe flash player.

Have you logged a problem on te adobe / mac website tech help sections with the specifics re JCI etc?

from the adobe site "Adobe recommends using Flash Player 10.3.183.5 to get the best experience with Mac OS X Lion. In particular, this version resolves an issue with Flash Player settings panel not responding to clicks in Mac OS X Lion."

might also be worth checking that you dont have the flashback malware on your machine

*phew* Thanks for the suggestion Naughtybekie, I've uninstalled the latest version of flash and and put in 11.2.202.235 instead.

Fingers crossed but this SEEMS to be working!! ...cammed last night and did a couple of reasonably long C2C sessions which would definately have caused my JCI to stop functioning previously.

Hoping this is not a fluke and it's all done and dusted, tho in my experience with camming it will be moving onto the next techonlogical challenge!

Hey guys, ok, so Ive come back to camming on my Macbook and I used to run my external logitech through videochat.tv but now its not picking it up at all. My Photobooth doesnt pick it up either and I used to shoot clips using my logitech and photobooth. How do I get my mac to pick it up. My iChat is finding the cam no problem, but not the damn programs I need!!!

Do I need to update my version of flash? Is that the issue?

    Hi there,
I'm revivving this thread as the version of flash I am using (11.2.202.235 ) is way out of date = in the way where this is creating isssues for me in being able to upload to my clips4sale store. JCI streaming version on AW is still running fine, but I'm wondering what version of FLASH are girls using on their Macs at the moment?

I'm using a Macbook pro 10.7.5 OS 10 Lion. Is anyone updated to Maverick and is it worth it?

I've done searches on here and on the wider web but I'm scared of going through the same old crap of updating flash and then having to deal with all the buggy crap that can come with it.

    Any help appreciated!!

Sorry if my post sounds technology challenged - I am!!
