Default How to get management to let me do less than the mandatory number of shifts?

I started dancing a couple of months ago and I made good money. However I have chronic fatigue syndrome and the mandatory number of shifts was three per week and I was absolutely exhausted after just two. I therefore had to quit. The other clubs in my area have the same policy. I really want to return to dancing but i cannot do three shifts each week. Does anyone have any advise on how I could get the management to agree to let me do one or two shifts per week? Also I'm quite nervous about phoning them up and asking because I quit after only one week.

Clubs in the area i worked at were similar. 3 day min potter week but it's possible to do less than that you just have to communicate your needs to the manager. After all they do make money with girls working there.

Thanks for advise, I've just got to bite the bullet and tell them the situation and ask them to take me back. I'm also worried that once I start again that I'm gonna get really worn out but I suppose I've just gotta see what happens.

Hmm, have you had a complete blood panel done to see if there is something that you can do to remedy the fatigue...I might get some slack for littering up stripperweb with this, since I have been posting it a lot lately, but I had large red blood cells due to a b12 deficiency and it caused fatigue, hair loss and a host of other problems. I have been taking b12 for about two weeks and it has seriously changed my life already.

You can tell your manager that you have a medical condition, a doctors note could be helpful in this case, he may relent.

The worst part about your situation is that you QUIT. You could have easily negotiated and used the doctor's excuse mentioned above. The fact that you chose to quit makes you seem flippant and fickle. That doesn't bode well... but it is worth a try. Just be apologetic and reasonable this time.

Why didn't you just do the one day on- one day off- one day on- etc. schedule?

I happen to have chronic fatigue too. If I spread out my work days I tend to fare much better than just stacking them back to back.

Some clubs will work with you and some won't. Getting a Dr's note would be a good place to start. Also offer to pay extra house fee and/or to tip out extra. My club will allow 2 day work weeks with owner approval and paying $20 extra per shift.

The city I used to live in was notorious for 3 days/week mandatory shifts. Luckily for me, I talked to the managers about my medical condition and they let me work whenever I wanted and didn't make me do 3 days/wk. But, with one club the management changed, and with the really busy ones, they just weren't having it at all. It would be better to work there for awhile (which you have I think, even though you quit) or work at a club that doesn't have a million girls, bc they will be more likely to work with you.

The busier very competitive upscale clubs that don't need girls might just write you off as too much to deal with and not work with you. Especially if you don't know the manager at least a little. Thats been my experience.

Just call them back (or go in person) and explain WHY you quit, and say you thought about it and would just like to see if you can do 1 or 2 days a week, or just come when you feel good. I literally did the same exact thing (only I went back to "reaudition" and explained my situation in person & of course didn't have to audition again lol), and then my manager became super nice to me and was like "it all makes sense now!" That club sucked moneywise though.

Whats the worst that can happen? They say no?

I've had a preliminary blood screening and everything was fine, they are going to give me a full blood screening once I have been referred to a specialist. Then I will know if there is anything amiss. Are there any other vitamins you take that have helped with general fatigue? I'm gonna start popping b12 anyway because its supposed to increase your stamina and bost your immune system. Thanks for the advise

Thanks Glamourrouge, that gives me confidence that it's not an unreasonabl request and that there's a strong possibility they're gonna be cool with it. Did you organise a re-audition and then at the audition ask about shifts? I'm wondering whether to tell them on the phone beforehand or at the audition itself. I think it would be better in person at the audition.

I had already worked there awhile, but I'd disappear for like 2 weeks at a time or call in, and so I just decided to quit and go to a new club. The new club was weird/passive aggressive about me not being on schedule or calling in when I was sick since the manager didn't know me and was semi-crazy, but that was a money club so I thought it would be better. It was more stressful so I decided to go back to my old club even if it meant less money (the club prospects in that area SUCKED so it was a lose-lose situation where ever I chose to work).

So I just decided I'd go back to ask to reaudition (which I didn't have to of course), and the manager kind of started to give me the "treat it like a job" lecture, but then I just told him everything about my autoimmune problems leaving me in bed or too weak to go on stage or too tired to focus so I just wouldn't go in or would call in. He was already suspicious as I was known at work as the girl who wouldn't drink alcohol (I had ulcers and have acid reflux so I rarely drink) when all the other girls were getting lectures for getting shitfaced, so I think he knew something was up. But I just showed up early to the club with no warning on like a Monday when I knew he'd be in. If I were you, I wouldn't even call (unless your club only schedules auditions by appointment or specific day only), or if you do call, only say "hey i want to talk to you when can i come in to talk?" and then just tell him EVERYTHING in person. He'll be more sympathetic, and I think it will go a lot farther in the effort department if you do that, and how can he say no to your face in person if he already knows you? Bring in a doctor note if hes known to be an asshole. Luckily my manager was really nice, but professional.

If you're an independent contractor, legally they cannot dictate your schedule.

Having a note from a doc would be helpful.

This is the thing that really annoys me about being a stripper. In theory we are independant contractors who should be able to do whatever we want but the reality is that so much is dictated by management e.g. having to wear a long dress (its a club where girls get naked for money, a long dress isn't tricking anyone into thnking this is a classy joint), having to go on stage, stay until 3pm, start at 9pm URGH. If you don't follow the rules they give you the boot. Rant over. So in theory Stripper Hack you're absolutely right but in reality I have to get management to agree.

I should be able to come in next Friday afternoon to paint because I'm an independent contractor goddammit!"

You are an independent contractor. If you don't like this contract, negotiate or find a new one.
I don't know what it's like in the U.S but in the U.K there are so many rules, regulations and fines imposed on strippers that we verge on being employees. It's not just me that thinks this, a case was brought before an emplyment tribunal against a strip club by a stripper. She claimed that she was an employee and therefore should have the rights of an employee. The court agreed that because of the rules and regulations she was subject to she was in fact an employee not an independant contractor. Here is an article about it

    http://www.bpe.co.uk/employment/news...mployment-case

One of the facts in her favour was tht she worked on a rota, she could not pick the amount of shifts she could do in a week which in theory an independant contractor should be able to do.

I used to lie and say I was in school so I could work half shifts (full shift was 7hrs = total BS!!). Maybe your club is nice to students too ...?^^

I wish you the best! It's tough to have an auto immune disease..I am frequently tired no matter what. I am going to get a vit.B12 spray, along w/the regular vitamins. I'm in the US, in the midwest, & I find many clubs here have the work 3x a week rule.

Do you work three shifts a week? Do you have any tips on how to cope? I'm going back to my old club tomorrow and if they don't let me do two shifts a week I'm going to try and do three.

A particular large club in my area that has multiple locations actually requested my availability and I told them I can not do their mandatory 2 days a week..I could only do one..They accepted it and put me on the schedule..But largely due to the fact that they lost some of their 'top' girls..Its true when a club is hurting for girls they r more willing to be accommodating. There r clubs out there who r willing to work w any restrictions a dancer may have...

Our contract actually states that if you have children or are studying you don't have to follow the expected shift guidelines. I think as long as you're not obviously taking advantage of management ie. going home early because youre being lazy, then it shouldn't be an issue. Maybe you could do 3 shifts but just shorter shifts?
