Default Ways to keep energy up @ work?

So lately, I find myself getting really really tired about mid shift. I'm not sure why this has been happening, because it never used to. But now it is starting to become an every day I work thing. So I am just curious..what are some healthy ways to keep your energy up at work?!! (tactics, things to eat, etc.) I also find myself leaving early lately, because I am so dang worn out, and I really need to kick this habit!

Try giving yourself a little lunch break. Eat something, get some fresh air, change into a fresh outfit.

I'm partial to eating things that aren't just carbs.. Lately my go-to snack has been ham or turkey, and cheese, wrapped around pretzels. And you can do a number of fun variations, like adding avocado into the mix, dipping the meat/cheese/pretzel/avocado? bundle in hummus, ketchup, hot sauce, tzatziki, whatever.
Sometimes I'll even just eat an avocado, plain, with salsa.
I think what's so great about the pretzel bundles is that you get the protein from the meat and cheese plus the crunch from the pretzel, and deli meat and pretzels are both pretty low-cal which allows for the cheese.
Another good one that I've been making and eating as long as I can remember is spinach leaf, spread with cream cheese, and sprinkle with a couple peanuts, roll it up and eat it.

Make sure you're drinking plenty of water and if you haven't already, try staying away from alcohol during your shift.

Question Re: Ways to keep energy up @ work?

Yeah, coffee/energy drinks don't do a whole lot for me, really. I have a spray thing that dispenses vitamn B12, but it's not enough. I am going to research this.

I get by with adderall, I know it's not great and many people may be against it, but coffee and vitamins don't do shit for me, and energy drink are loaded with crap that bloats me.. For me though I wouldn't just get tired, but my focus would also shift at work, and adderall helps me sooooo much!

I have a script, but it was super easy to get..I try not to take it every day for that reason jenn, because I'll feel like a zombie when I don't so only 3x a week for work, but when I'm in school and working I take it 6-7 days a week and it def sucks to need to to function..

My solution for years was starbucks doubleshots. Not exactly healthy, but it definitely did the trick.

Sounds obvious but make sure you've had enough sleep before shift. If I'm going to have a long shift, I also make sure I do as little as possible that day. If I've been running around like a blue assed fly on speed all day and haven't had a lot of sleep the night before, I begin to suck mid shift.

Eating a medium to big healthy meal before work. I also drink a protein drink during my commute. If I do start to lag during work: I make quinoa w/ pesto and veggies to bring with me. I'll have a couple of heaping spoons of that or handful of almonds. I also try to bring green tea with me, but that doesn't always happen.

i don't eat at work, i find it drains me and makes me sleepy. so i try to eat a big lunch, then a snack in the afternoon and a small meal or snack when i'm counting out for the night. during my shift i'll have blended drinks or juices though. i actually bring in a hot water maker for tea and sip lots of tea at work, even if it's caffeine free just having something to sip on keeps me more alert.

i really like yerba maté tea if you're looking for clean energy (coffee makes my breath reek, my mouth dry, and my head hurt). also those high ball energy drinks that are basically soda water with taurine and b-vitamins are really, really good. they make me bubbly without feeling cracked out.

lots of chicks hate on hanging around in the dressing room but for me having a second to recollect, check where i'm at, think of something that makes me smile, and remotivate to chat with people is essential.

So, what I did was I took a week off, just to refresh my mindset and re-energize. This really helped alot!! Those of you who can afford to take a whole week off should try it. I went back in last night back to my usual self and excited to see everyone I hadn't seen for a week and also made better money than I had been making in the week before I left.

these are all good ideas! (:

glitzy, I have noticed the eating thing as well. When I get a meal it instantly turns me lazy. However its hard to dance when your starving your ass off, so I just started getting little snacks to keep something in my stomach and that has helped a bit. I like the blended juices and tea idea. I will have to try that.

1- dark chocolate covered coffee beans! it's not the most healthy thing in the world, but i only eat a couple here and there throughout the night. ugh i just go a little crazy with coffee and energy drinks.. like once i start drinking them i just don't want to stop, even if i have plenty of energy! so i try to avoid them (for health reasons as well), and i like this as an alternative

2- remembering that what you put into your body a few days ago matters NOW. it takes your body a few days to recover fully when you put junk into it, and it's not going to perform very well until it's been back on track for at least two or three days (or more!). so, if i know i'm going to work two or three really late nights in a row, i make sure to be extra conscious of my nutrition several days beforehand. or at LEAST be sure to get some good nutrition and sleep the day of and the day before.

    copious quantities of cocaine.

    kidding.

for me it was heavy amounts of caffeine, cigarettes, and adderall (ADD prescription, say what bitches?!?!?!). not the healthiest. eat a light meal before hand with protein and carbs (not refined sugar) which should take longer to digest if you are gettin hungry.

if you are crashing and burning early, show up to work later maybe. Maybe you dont have the stamina to do an 8 hr shift but you do for 6 hrs. And usually a later 6 hr shift will be more lucrative than an earlier 6 hr shift. This is location dependent of course.

are you sleeping ok at home? have you considered a prework nap if this is possible?
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

lol I was waiting for the coke recommendation... I'm really thinking about getting new prescription for adderall after reading this thread, thinking back this has always been the only reliable help. Or 5 hour energy drinks in combination with lots of alcohol.

There must be a healthy way to have energy at work!

i definitely have been a friend of 5 hr energy and caffeine pills.

i dont recommend sugary energy drinks tho. that shit will make you crash. id go for the 5 hr energy shot or a caffeine pill wiht a glass of water before a sugary red bull. Or maybe bring your own iced coffee or iced tea,... the bar can provide ice in a cup if you need it really cold.
