Default Furore over Vaginal discharge ad on Aussie TV

    http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=8499944

I can't believe the drama over this ad- what is the big deal?
It's normal to have the discharge- it cleans and keeps the Nooni fresh and healthy. Oversensitivity to a natural female function serves only to shut down the discourse on healthy bodies and sexuality. Grrr.

As for "my child saw the ad and asks questions" (The ad screened after 8.30pm) how about explaining to children in a straightforward manner a la the book 'Where do I come from?' it is a natural part of being a big girl or women.

Wow, people need to get a grip. The comments saying they don't want to hear such a gross description- all she said was 'discharge is the body's way of keeping the vagina healthy'. And 'But not eveyone knows what it is like to have a vagina/period, and quite frankly, they DON'T need to know.' - well not everyone knows what it's like to have a weak bladder but I'm sure they don't complain about ads for pads for that. Do they complain about the word 'period' being used in towel/tampon ads?

Is this an Australian thing? I haven't heard of any complaints about things like this in the UK, even ads about *gasp* thrush creams!

Usually the Australians are very open minded, so i'm surprised this is getting any attention.

And geeeeze... WTF. I'm personally a fan of vaginal discharge... so the outcry is especially confusing to me.

Why is this considered offensive or disgusting, but ads regarding bowel movements are okay? Not that I have a problem with bowel movement related ads... just pointing out that vaginal discharge is no more disgusting than poop. There is far too much stigma and taboo placed on natural bodily functions that everyone (or in this case every woman) all over the world has on a daily basis. Half of the population of the earth is female; that half of the population poops. They pee. They bleed from their vaginas, and in-between the unfortunate but perfectly normal blood-baths, they leak. (I don't know if we really make up half the population, but it's close enough)

Anyway... mini-rant over. I need to go clean my vagina now.

I think it should be praised for saying vaginal discharge is normal and healthy. Why are women meant to be ashamed of their bodies? Some people just have nothing better to do than complain about shit that doesn't matter!

Male ad execs? No, that's not fair, I know plenty of men who are comfortable (or at least not prissy) when feminine stuff is being discussed- 9 times in ten these are prob the guys who relate well to women in general.

Smeca, an ad for thrush screened a few years back in Aus, it was a women standing in a fake studio with an all male film crew. She spoke coyly about the treatment and the ad cut to the men in the film crew having reaction shots (being grossed out!)...

...I've seen this add and can't understand why ppl are kicking up a fuss about it. If any thing, it's informative and reassuring for women and by no means offensive. What-do they want that embarrasing bodies show to have to be the one to say "it's normal"?

...and yet they are currently airing this one on tv here lol (..or at least I don't think it's been axed-yet):

Vagina is a clinical term. Vaginal discharge is a clinical term.

Wow I just watched the ad. She appears naked but she's still standing behind some lovely flowers. It felt like I was watching a typical always with wings commercial. I just feel this one was nice enough to educate some people that see vaginal discharge as a nasty thing when its quite normal. This comes from people being taught about bad vaginal discharges associated with STDs or infections. Still I don't see anything wrong with it and she came across rather pleasant and positive.

Once again this drama over this ad is just another way to tell women there is something wrong with loving the natural changes of their body. I want a free trial of those liners myself . Are we sure it's 2012? SMH

There's nothing wrong with a little panty pudding. I think once you've watched a baby being born, your prospective of the woman's body changes for the good or at least my did.

Would it be different if she were talking about the same thing while wearing a white bikini? Or a bathrobe?

Is it the nudity that people don't like, or the fact that she says "vaginal discharge"?
