Default Please help me, I'm orange :( Self tanning for dummies!

    Ok ladies...I need some help...hehe. I'm a bit...orange atm. And colour blocked/streaky, etc.

Usually it is manageable but I don't know this stuff I got is REALLY dark (Loreal Sublime Bronze) so it stands out even more. And there are lines all around my wrists and ankles ahhhhh!

I tried scrubbing it off, soaking in the tub for half an hour, which evened it out a bit, but not really. How do I fix this?!?! I have a date tonight and I'd rather not look half stupid pasty white girl and half oompa loompa. The other self tanners I have used have either not done this or melted right off with soap in the shower. I am stuck.

Also if anyone has tips on how to avoid this disaster in the future please let me know as I will admit I definitely am not gifted with the self spray tanning! Or perhaps suggestions on good self-tan products, I have terrible luck with them it seems.

    Hey there!

I've been using the L'Oreal Sublime Bronze (360 Airbrush) for 5 years, and the instant bronzer for 2.

    ALWAYS exfoliate, no matter what.

This will help with the streakyness in the future.

As far as a quick fix, you can:

Use Lemon if the exfoliating glove and soap scrub don’t remove the fake tan, then rub some lemon juice onto your skin. Ensure that before applying the lemon juice that your skin is completely dry. Leave the lemon juice on your skin for a couple of minutes and then gently rinse with warm water.
The acids in the lemon juice should be able to dissolve the spray tan from your topmost dead skin layer.
After doing this make sure to apply some moisturizing lotion to your skin to hydrate it.

    Baby oil:

Another method is to use baby oil to remove the spray tan. You apply some baby oil to your skin and leave it for a few minutes so the top layer of your skin can absorb it. Then get your exfoliating glove and moisten it with some more baby oil and scrub your skin.

    Fake tan removal products:

There are some products out there specifically designed to remove spray or fake tans. To be honest, the relatively cheaper methods I have described above work just as well but some people swear by the tan remover products. There are plenty of products to choose from and one of the better ones is the St Tropez Tan Remover.

    Hydrogen Peroxide:

Hydrogen peroxide is usually used as a disinfecting agent (and some girls use it to lighten their hair). You can also use it to remove unwanted spray tan. The way you do this is to dab a cotton cloth in some hydrogen peroxide and swab the cloth over your skin. Leave for a couple of minutes and then pat the solution off with a dry cloth.

What if all of the above methods don’t satisfactorily remove my tan?

The good news is that it’s not permanent but you will have to be patient and let nature take its course and wait till your topmost (dead) skin layer is shed, which may take a few days. To speed up the process, gently exfoliate your skin daily in a warm bath using the exfoliating body scrub gel and glove as described above.

Its probably the self-tanner formula combined with your skin tone thats turning you orange. I've always loved St Tropez. Only one that didn't turn me orange or look fake.

Sublime bronze is a beeeeyatch to get off. They actually make (they being Loreal) tan-removing wipes/scrubs for exactly that reason.

I love the sublime line of products. So guess what I do... I add more to even it out.

Yeah, I look DARK but at least it isn't stripe-y. Over time it fades evenly. Just blend it well... put more product on the lighter parts, put less product on the darker parts... and sort of blend throughout.

That is my very best solution.

Oh and just for the record. Sublime products have never.... never.... everrrr turned me orange. Perhaps you got a product from a bad batch. Call them when you get a chance. That is NOT normal.

If you're desperate enough 40 volume processing cream, purchase at Sally's, will work but can burn if you have already scrubed yourself.
I've used Salon Bronze for years, after the third coat you can turn a unnatural color though.

Thanks guys, my mistake I think was not exfoliating first...I noticed that the rougher areas of skin were darker than softer areas hmmm. I was thinking of exfoliating the darker areas but I was worried I'd end up with patches of white instead :s Since I didn't have any lemon juice or hydrogen peroxide or tan removal wipes at home...or baby oil lol, I substituted coconut oil, and it combined with another bath worked! I really like the colour I came out with, it was just a bit tan, so much more natural...I am very fair and blonde so I don't like to look too dark, has anyone every tried mixing a strong tanning product like the sublime line with a regular lotion to make it not so dark? I am thinking that diluting the product like that may work for me because I'm wondering if part of the problem is also that I'm really fair to begin with...wouldn't that make streaks and such all the more noticeable? I used Jergens self-tanning lotion before but sometimes I got annoyed with it because it took so long (like a week) to build up. I don't really have that much desire to look tan outside of work, so I was hoping this could be something more instant that I could just put on before worrk and get results and then when I shower after, it will fade quickly...or even if it didn't fade, it gave a natural enough tan that I wouldn't feel wierd and too jersey-shore-wannabe walking around during the day lol
