It will get worse, heck this is just the beginning. I sense a lot more of it will go on. Forget terrorist they aren't our real threat it's our own citizens.
Evil is always devising more corrosive misery through man's restless need to exact revenge out of his hate. Ralph Steadman

The worst part is, the anti-gun lobby is going to hold this up like a banner just like they did Columbine and VA Tech. Because apparently gun control laws will prevent this from happening.
Of course - if a law-abiding citizen with a CCW who was a half decent shot was in that theater, the death toll could have been much lower, and included the gunman himself. Just sayin'.

^Agreed. I'm not anti-gun or anything, but I think in this particular instance, the gunman was too well prepared for your average or even above-average Joe with a CCW to take down. Especially if you consider the type of guns people often choose for CCW (small guns with bad recoil, which often means poor accuracy) and the environment this guy chose, everything was in his favor. Whether he would have been confident enough to pull this off if he thought there was a greater chance of his potential victims being armed, I've no clue.

Here an article explains the problem:

Okay - while I agree with some of the points in that article, I have to say that the writers for that site are WAAAAYY far gone, lol.

This country is way too screwed up for controlling guns to be a solution to anything. There's no reason why everyone should need to have one in the first place.

I'm just livid that these idiot parents brought their 4month old and 4 year old to the midnight showing of the movie. Could they not find a sitter to put those kids to bed at a decent time? As for the shooting, I'm heartbroken but am not surprised it happened, especially in Colorado which seems to be the shooting massacre capital of the world. I pray for the victims.

So CO is just a magnet for the nutjobs. That's good to know.
I need more friends who understand my humor. I'm sorry folks, there is no such thing as "too soon". The worse the tragedy, the more we need the jokes. That's how I roll. I refrain from that shit where I don't know my audience for the most part, but my closest friends - whom I can usually rely on to contribute - are like, letting me down here. Jeesh.
C'mon DD - I know YOU'RE with me!!

The worst part is, the anti-gun lobby is going to hold this up like a banner just like they did Columbine and VA Tech. Because apparently gun control laws will prevent this from happening.
The worst part is that not only would these people distract from the tragedy to further their agenda... 9/10ths of the people freaking out about gun control are losing their shit over the wrong gun and spreading inaccurate information.

(snip)"ABC News has suggested that James Holmes -- the suspect in today's shooting in Aurora, Colorado -- may have a connection to the Tea Party.
ABC's Brian Ross reported this morning that there is "a Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado, page on the Colorado Tea party site... talking about him joining the Tea Party last year."
"Now, we don't know if this is the same Jim Holmes," Ross cautioned "but it's Jim Holmes of Aurora, Colorado."
ABC News is the only network or cable news channel to suggest a possible Tea Party connection, according to a survey of the TV Eyes database at 9:30 a.m. ET, though they did not verify that the two individuals were one and the same.
The report has already set off alarm bells on the right. At Brietbart.com, the conservative news site, Joel Pollak has accused ABC News of "scapegoating."
"How interesting that Ross and ABC News should think to look to the Tea Party website first--and to broadcast politically volatile information without verifying if that 'Jim Holmes' is the same as the suspect," Pollak writes. "Look for more scapegoating from the mainstream media and the Democrats in the hours and days to follow."
I have reached out to ABC News for comment on its report, and will update here if and when I hear back.
UPDATE: ABC News apologizes for 'incorrect' Tea party report:
ABC News and Brian Ross are apologizing for an "incorrect" report that James Holmes, the suspect in the Colorado theater shooting, may have had connections to the Tea Party.
"An earlier ABC News broadcast report suggested that a Jim Holmes of a Colorado Tea Party organization might be the suspect, but that report was incorrect," ABC News said in a statement. "ABC News and Brian Ross apologize for the mistake, and for disseminating that information before it was properly vetted."
In a similar statement released minutes earlier, ABC News said the report was "incorrect" but did not include the apology. "Several other local residents with similar names were also contacted via social media by members of the public who mistook them for the suspect," the initial statement read."(snip) from

^^^ this counts as one of the most 'fortunate coincidences' ever !!! Of course, there are a few 'conspiracy theorists' out there who don't believe in such coincidences !
It will indeed be interesting to see what other 'similarities' eventually emerge between Jared Loughner and James Holmes. This guy hit over 60 people...when that guy in Arizona pulled out a gun in daylight at the political event, I think he was only able to hit around 10 people before he was brought down (I think he was just tackled too).
The 'conspiracy theorists' would speculate that one major 'similarity' will be that both shooters will be ruled mentally incompetent to stand trial ... thus denying the US general public the disclosure of pertinent hard facts that would have emerged during a trial ... and thus leaving the US general public totally dependent on mainstream media reports for essentially ALL information regarding the shooters.

It's already happening. I got an email from one of those leftwing groups calling for an end to gun rights because of this. Using this tragedy as an excuse to push their agenda is low. I'm sure many know where I stand on this but no I don't support outlawing guns because the criminals will still get guns while the law abiding will not. Chicago has a handgun ban yet the gangs manage to shoot people. Where I live now guns are everywhere and the crime is very low (our worst criminals are the drunks and the speeders). Also, let's not forget the Second Amendment.
Anyway this is beyond horrific and I feel for these people. It's a terrible tragedy caused by an insane person.
anybody ever see Final Destination?
This lady narrowly missed the Eaton Centre mass shooting in Toronto last month because she 'had a funny feeling' and then blogged about dodging a bullet (pardon the pun) only to be a victim in the Aurora shooting.

^^^ what ??? Canada's strict gun control laws already in place, yet shootings still occurring ???
also, from
(snip)"Aurora's Strict Gun Laws Didn't Prevent Shooting"(snip)
Mayor Bloomberg asks the Obama administration for stricter gun laws following Colorado shooting. Comedian DL Hughley tweeted, "Aurora is 13yrs and 13 miles from Columbine! Since the 60s over 500,000 ppl have bn killed by guns in the US we have no right 2 b shocked!"
How will stricter gun laws bring an end to criminals having guns, when the laws against murder have not been able to stop them from killing innocent people?
Currently in Aurora, Colorado, where the shooting took place, it is already unlawful to carry a concealed "dangerous weapon," discharge firearms, unless by law enforcement on duty or on shooting range, and have loaded firearm in motor vehicle.
Yet these laws were unable to stop James Holmes.
Crime rates alone of cities such as Chicago and Washington D.C. prove that gun bans only increase crime. The D.C. police response rate is eight minutes; most crimes are done in less than one. Gun bans create a trouble-free world for criminals considering no one can defend themselves. If I were ever to face a situation like this, I would want to be prepared.
I cannot help but think, if one person in that audience was carrying a gun with them, that person could have saved lives. Unfortunately - despite what some of the Left have said - this tragedy is an example of the importance of our Second Amendment Rights.
As I look into the history of mass shootings, one detail stands out: most of the gunmen are between the ages of 17 and 24. In the Columbine High School massacre of 1999, students Eric Harris, 18 and Dylan Klebold, 17, opened fire at their school. In 2007, the worst mass shooting in our nation's history took place on the campus of Virginia Tech by 23-year-old Seung-Hui Cho. Currently, police have 24-year-old James Holmes in custody for the mass shooting that took place in theater 9."(snip)

Toronto crime is up. There are stabbings and such but they never show up on the news. Usually only the shooting gets into the news.

Interesting quote in your signature, W.^

i'd hate to see this turn into a Gun Control thread as that is an endless debate.
also, Well, this thread has nothing to do with Toronto. I just found it creepy that one of the Aurora victims narrowly escaped a mass shooting just a month ago.

Here is some theories why this happened. I don't agree with all of it but I wonder how an unemployed man with no money had enough military equipment and firearms that would cost at least $10 000.

^^^ you're just getting 'warmed up' in regard to conspiracy theories ...
(snip)"A classic sign of an MK Ultra victim is when people are interviewed and say things about how this was so unexpected, etc. Interviews with James Holmes' friends and neighbors say that it was unexpected, and surely his graduate student status wouldn’t show any signs of instability. They said he bought a ticket and sat down to watch the film, but later got up and did we he did. Perhaps there was a “trigger” in the Dark Knight film? He did, in fact just walk out of the theater and when confronted by the police (while he had guns in hand, mind you) he simply submitted. Doesn’t this strike anybody as odd?"(snip)

My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the shooting.
Did anyone else hear about the douchebag that left his girlfriend and their baby and child in the theatre?
Someone else led the woman and the children safely outside.
Then D-Bag proposed to his girlfriend at the hospital and she accepted.
There's a piece about young man that helped the woman here:
http://www.thisis50.com/profiles/blo...ung-mother-her
(The young man in the striped shirt at the beginning of the interview video is him.)
There's also an interview with the couple. I tried to watch a bit of it but feel free to skip that if you don't feel like listening to him talk. That's what I did.
I think they are still defusing the bombs he left in his apartment as booby traps. How would gun control stop that? if he hadn't had a machine gun he could have used a bomb and achieved the same goal, hell probably more casualties even. I don't think gun control can stop crazy. What it might do though is stop the kind of guy who thinks TWO people shooting in a dark, tear gassed theater would somehow be better.
"Well done. Here are the test results: You are a horrible person. I'm serious, that's what it says: 'A horrible person.' We weren't even testing for that."
