I tried it out on a fan just now and I didn't notice a difference. Hmm. I'm starting to doubt my memory.

The unit next to ours is full of crazy college kids. the way I see it: If I can hear you boinking your girlfriend in the shower every morning, you can put up with a little moaning in the odd hours.

I had a bunch of extra fleece and foamy blankets and I bought screw hooks from Home Depot and binder clips from Staples. The binder clips are the medium to large size ones with the 2 hinged metal loop type handles. I screwed the hooks about 14" apart along the top of the wall, attached the binder clips to the blankets, and hung the clips by the screw hooks. Every square inch of the wall bordering my neighbor's apartment is covered now. It turned out to be a low cost and efficient way to "sound proof" the wall.

Btw, I used blankets that matched my wall color so it wouldn't change the color of the room's lighting. I also make sure my window is always shut before I start. If you have a neighbor below you, I would get a throw carpet.
    Bless you Bristol,
I just moved in to my new place a day ago and about started to cry because you can hear the neighbors conversations, in the hall you can hear my tv on low. After reading this post I ran out to the thrift store, spent $80 on 3 of the thickest blankets I could find, Went to home depot and bought 1/4" x 3-3/4" Lag thread screw hooks and a pack of zip ties. $5. PROBLEM SOLVED

It is wonderful!!! This blocked a good 75% of the noise which I can handle as the rest is severely muffled. I HAD HAD HAD to thank you this quick and cheap fix.

Only one of my neighbors speaks English, so the rest probably just think I'm insane...

Over the summer yes - I live in a triple decker neighborhood with houses no more than 20 feet from each other. I know when I am working everyone in my building can probably hear me as well as the house directly across from me. The best part is that my fiance and I are pretty friendly with the other people in my building so they must be like "WTF that is not his name - who is she fucking!" or maybe they think its wierd role play or something - I have no idea. Noones ever said anything but I know they must speculate. Whatever!

I don't think it's a problem now, but during the summer is just gets sooo hot in my office (upstairs loft bedroom) that I HAVE to open the window. You can then hear every word outside. We are both detached houses, but the guy comes and goes a lot so most definitely hears me each time he's at his car.

I'm more annoyed that he's getting a free audio show that he should be paying for!

I too live in an upstairs apartment and I know in the summer, when I had windows open, they could hear me outside. Embarrassinggggg. I can't hear my neighbors unless they're in the little hallway that our apartments are out of (and when they're out there, I've heard them stop talking and listen while I'M saying, "cmon boys, only 56 more gold until we start the cum show! I know you wanna watch that sloppy bj...") and when I'm in my bathroom... So when I'm filming shower scenes, I know they hear me. Pretty embarrassing. :/ Nothing you can do about it though.

OMG! I worry about this all the time!
I can hear the neighbors across the hall, when they fight in their living room, but I've never heard them having sex, so that might be okay.
But the apartment that butts up to mine, their bedroom is right against my bedroom wall, so I worry that they can hear me...
I've never had the complex call me to tell me about complaints though, so I'm gonna keep on keeping on until then.
