    Default Dieting with kids/spouse/family

Okay, how do you all control yourself when you know "bad" food is in the house?

I was doing so good when I was working, but since I've stopped dancing (again lol), I find myself mindlessly snacking, or eating my kids leftovers.
I do keep busy all day too, but I can't help but when I see a chocolate chip granola bar sitting on the counter, I take a fucking bite...ahh!!

It would be so easy if I only had healthy food in the house, but with a family, we have a wide variety of foods.
    (mmmmm...cupcakes!! )

but really....any tips on how to control mindless snacking??

I do this too! My husband lovesssss dessert, so I do a lot of baking...usually I don't like sweet crap, but I haven't had any alcohol or cigarettes since may 2nd and now all I want is sugar. So I'll be like "mmmmm... pie" and mindlessly devour it all sans mayb e a slice or two .

Yeah, I haven't had a drink in like 2 weeks, so I should REALLY be dropping pounds, but I just am replacing my wine with a chocolate bar, or a piece of sausage lol

I'm glad I'm not alone though!

Oh but, I haven't done this yet so I can't.guarentee that it works but have you ever heard of a stevia plant? I came across one at the farmers market and the person selling them let me try a leaf. You chew/suck on it and it is really sweet...it kinda tastes like sweet and low. I was thinking of getting one and like, popping a leaf in my mouth every time I get a sugar craving. I don't know if it would work though, lol

I just make my husband eat what I eat and then if he complains I say "do you want a fat wife!?" and then he eats it haha.

I'm not one to give a lot of advice cause I do the same damn thing! But mostly, I just put them away in the "not for me" cupboard so I don't see it. Mostly chips, pretzels, and little debbie snacks

I also have them eat pretty damn healthy cause it just don't want crap in the house. So when we do buy stuff like that (cookie dough, cake mix, etc), the treats are really a treat, you know? We keep a lot of fruit in the house for snacking, along with celery and peanut butter, raisons, etc.

Portion control has always been my best friend. My biggest weakness is pizza and Chinese food, so instead of eating them all at once, I'd eat smaller portions through they day along with a healthier food (yogurt, fruit or nut). If I buy ice cream, I'd eat like 4 ounces (the same as one of those small cups you see on stores) and that's it once a week.

I am mega bad for this. I tend to decide what healthy stuff I'm gonna eat, then I make his food and put something I don't like in it, so that I don't nibble at the more calorific food he's into whilst it's cooking, nor will I eat his leftovers!I buy him things I don't like, or rationalise that I shouldn't eat for some other reason than my weight (e/g I don't want to be unhealthy/I don't want to counteract the healthiness of my exercise regime/the processed/fattier foods are more expensive, I shouldn't eat them...Lol I play tricks with myself..

Well... a lot of those snack foods aren't too good for the kiddos (or the husband) either. Maybe you should consider replacing those items with healthier ones, or at least having fewer in the house? You could try your hand at baking and make muffins with quinoa flower, or make more traditional baked goods and use things like stevia or applesauce replacements. Other examples:

In place of syrup for waffles and sugary coffee creamers, agave nectar is really good. My SO tasted my coffee with the agave in it and flipped shit. He loves it and I tease him because it's vegan and he is totally unconcerned about what he puts in his body.
Instead of milkshakes/ice cream, protein shakes with Greek yogurt and frozen fruits, with spinach and kale slipped in--but don't tell the rest of them about it.
If you really want something that just comes packaged and you can eat without feeling too down about it later, Special K makes "pastry crisps" that are actually pretty good tasting and only have 7 grams of sugar per 2 bars, which is what's contained in a single package.

Otherwise something that might help you kick the snacking would be to go on a sugar fast for a little while. Once you break through the first week or so, you won't be so mindless about just picking whatever up and taking a bite. I also agree with the poster who suggested a different cabinet for things you "can't" eat. The "out of sight" rule tends to be a good one for not reminding yourself about all the things you could be eating.

Oh, also, do you have a favorite healthy(-ish) drink you love? My SO and I don't really have a lot of junk here, but whenever I'm craving it anyway, I occupy myself with a cup of tea or coffee. Just make sure you brush after!

Why can't they eat what you eat? Healthy eating habits learned in childhood last a lifetime!

I'm lucky in that my husband will eat anything but beets. Really, he's better than I am in some ways; he drinks aloe vera and all that shit. But when I do make him treats I always tell him "These are yours. Do not share any with me." . Then if I reach for one he's all "THOSE ARE MY TREATS! NONE FOR YOU!". It makes me laugh and reminds me not to eat bullshit.

If you want some really great recipes for healthy baked goods that aren't full of expensive or odd ingredients (like almond flour of something) let me know. I have some great muffin and "cupcake" recipes that are under 150 cal a serving.

Try this recipe, Peanut Butter Banana breakfast bars:

They're about 200cals each but GREAT for breakfast (obviously). I made them and they turned out SPECTACULAR.

Try these too, Lemonade Confetti Cupcakes!:

    97 cals per cupcake!

All these years later, i am SO thankful that my parents were healthfreaks and raised me eating healthy foods. I never knew what a fruit rollup was and never had a twinkie or hotdog, we were kosher, gluten free, and my mom was diabetic so there was never alot of sugar in the house. When i didnt get a treat like cookies or a trip to Dairy Queen, it was extra special! i didnt really know what i was missing out on so i didnt care. it helped that my mom was a great cook and always had hot meals ready everynight. Today i am so happy that i have been taught to eat foods that are good for your body and not just mindlessly munch on things that "taste good" ..I dont know how old your children are but you control what they eat, so your whole family can not only support your choices but be healthy with you, and i dont think thats a concept any philly cheesesteak loving dad would argue with

i think a 'not for me' cabinet is a great idea.

i also think that maybe just having yoru kids eat what you eat is not a bad idea. or if you do feed them dessert make it a healthy dessert instead of store bought cupcakes and what not.

also, have you noticed how awesome fruit is? srsly. Im cleaning up my diet completely for ramadan (not that this is in any way related to what people do for ramadan, but its just a marker in time for me) and cutting out refined sugar. I have been obsessed wiht peaches lately. like fo real. i hadnt eaten one in like 3 years and i realize ive been missing out in life. a peach is only like 50 calories. But its like 1000 in awesome points. Also kiwis and plums are fantastic and low in calories. so maybe when you get a sugar craving reach for a fruit instead?
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

The best advice I can give you, is to go through all your cupboards and fridge and TRASH anything that is unhealthy. This will completley elimate your ability to access certain foods, unless you want to go to the grocery store and wait in line ect. I make sure I have no "bad" food in the house in the first place, so I'm not tempted.

I can see it might be a tad bit hard with a family to keep up a healthy diet, but just do a tad bit of reasearch on replacing certain things in your home with healthier versions or trashing it all together.

My biggest deterent when it comes to eating bad food, usually is it really worth it? If you can't jusitfy eating that snack put it down, or put it away for later.

There are plenty of snacking options that are healthy, if you need a couple of ideas you know the ladies of SW are here to help

Try some flaxseed crackers or whole grain crackers with little to no soduim with red pepper hummus. Trust me even kids will eat this.

Here is a lovely bannana nut bread recipe I like to make when the SO and I are craving sweets.

(BTW I use unbleach flour, and wheat flour).
