Default Questions! I'm new to everything :(

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums and to pretty much everything about dancing. I've been thinking about dancing for a bit now and reading here and there has definitely helped a bit.
But I'm still new to everything and everywhere I read, I learn something new so I'm trying to take it little by little. And I gotta admit I'm a bit nervous.

But a few things concern me:

    1) Are there any clubs in New York area that aren't topless/nude? I've been trying to search online but maybe I just suck at searching.

    2) This is probably not the biggest thing to be worrying about but, would it look weird if I wore my hair curly? I have curly hair that goes up to my shoulders and I kinda look like a "fluffy sheep" (weird I know) with my hair from what I've heard. Not so much the sexy girl image that I'd picture a dancer should be. Does it matter?

    3) I have absolutely NO way of buying clothes online in my house as my mother checks the mail here (because she always shops on eBay so she'll think something it's hers) Is there a store that sells exotic dancewear? Or would I be better off mailing it to a friends house? 4) Does every club provide lockers or just some?

    5) I know that lap dances are pretty much the basic thing in a club, but does everybody have to go on the stage to dance? Even if you don't know how?

    6) How do I prepare for an interview and What should I expect on my first night working?

I have a bit of money but I'm definitely gonna run out, I wanna look for a job ASAP.

    1. You can go to a website called www.tuscl.com
It has the name and locations of most clubs. Check if you see a club that fits your style.

    2. No. I had danced with curly hair. If you feel like changing your hair, the "body business" subforum have tons of ideas for you.

    3. Most adult novelty shops sell dancewear.

    4. Some clubs have lockers, some don't. You can always put locks on your bags as well.

    5. In most clubs, you have to dance onstage. You'll get it quickly. Watch the other dancers.

    6. Try to come with clothes that accentuate your body, nothing loose, so the managers would get a better idea of your body type.

What can you expect from your first night? Nobody knows until you give it a try!

I am looking into NY/NJ clubs as well too.. I recently bought a bunch of "exotic" bikinis off ebay. Got them all for under $7 each including shipping. I bought my shoes off amazon as well (Ellie 6" platforms $28!!). However about five years ago, I went thru this and bought all my stuff from Empire Exotics in NYC.

This thread has addresses of stores:

My bag was so obnoxiously big it didn't fit in the tiny lockers, so I just locked it.

You should scout some clubs and see if you're still interested.

Shopping online just might be better a better idea than paying most prices in the city.
50 to $60 just for a bottom piece. My wallet almost shed a tear.
Atleast I can get the clothes for even a few dollars off atleast til I make some income. Til then, ebay and amazon it is.
Oh and, are the platform shoes more comfortable then wearing regular heels?

Don't have any experience with NY. Tuscl is the better of the 2 sites. SCL has too many goddamn popups IMO
    2) This is probably not the biggest thing to be worrying about but, would it look weird if I wore my hair curly? Switch it up once in awhile. If it bugs you try some smoothing serum like biosilk on it. I have friends that do fine with curls.
    3) I have absolutely NO way of buying clothes online in my house as my mother checks the mail here (because she always shops on eBay so she'll think something it's hers) Is there a store that sells exotic dancewear? Or would I be better off mailing it to a friends house?
If you can't make it to a store try sending it to a friend's house.
    4) Does every club provide lockers or just some?
If it's a complete dive they may not. Always bring a small lock for your bag.
    5) I know that lap dances are pretty much the basic thing in a club, but does everybody have to go on the stage to dance? Even if you don't know how?
Generally yes. At some clubs you may be able to pay an extra fee to "opt out" of stages. I knew one dancer that did this.
    6) How do I prepare for an interview and What should I expect on my first night working?
Dress nicely, smile and don't be nervous. On your first night just be aware of everything. That's the best advice I can give you. Good luck.

Almost all stripper shoes will be more comfortable than "civilian" heels.

Thanks tempest! I feel less nervous now.
And thank god they are. I wouldn't make it all throught the night wearing "civilian" heels.
Stripper heels look like they would be more comfy anyway.

This is true for many cities. Don't worry about stocking up an entire bag full of stripper gear like Mona though. You really only need 2-3 outfits to start. Besides, a lot of what you like as a newbie, you won't wear later on because you'll get a better idea of what works for the clientele while working. Like, when I first started, all I wanted to wear was pretty black lingerie. Turns out customers love bright colours more and they're a much better way to stand out. By not buying too many outfits when I first started, I didn't end up wasting my money on a stripper wardrobe I wouldn't really use again. Not to mention that you probably have some stuff in your closet that would suffice, so you really don't need to worry about shopping beforehand unless there's a legal dresscode to follow (ie. thong coverage).

^Totally agree with that. I bought some stuff when I first started that I decided I loved, cutesy babydolls etc. When I got to know my 'stripper self' more, I realised I wasn't cutesy, I was more the sexy/sultry type and thus the cutesy frilly things did not work nor did I feel comfy in them. Be careful with your money or you can end up making bad investments when you first begin and kicking yourself for it!

Lol I had only bought two outfits, but following certain advice I was toting: extra shoes, flat iron, bobby pins, needle and thread, hairspray, all kinds of crap. Lol this time around I'm doing makeup n hair before and packing light.

Yea makes sense. And needle and thread? To sew up a hole incase the outfit tears?

Looks like you want to work in a bikini gogo bar. Try the clubs in NJ, if you're not that far. It's either nude(from what I hear, you don't have to show cookie) or bikini clubs here.

Curly hair is cute. Just make sure it's not frizzy.

Find a store near you to buy your stuff and stash it at a friend's house. First, check out the clubs you may want to work at before you go shopping so you can have an idea.
