    Default Search Engine Optimization

Anyone really know much about this? It seems from what I have been reading that it has gotten a great deal more complicated than it was a few years back.

Is there a website or blog or forum that might have a 'SEO for Dummies' approach? I would like to learn more about this but a lot of the literature I have seen is confusing, and it seems to require a programming background.

I have a website (no stripping related)and it has a section where you put keywords. Because of my business I put words like "marketing" "website design" and a few others and when I put several words in Google it pops up. I need to add more keywords to increase the ranking.

Yeah I need to figure this out--before I revamp and reopen the website in the next few months. I have no clue how to do it--except a vague idea that you are supposed to include the keywords that people will be searching for in the text of your website, and the titles of your pages (I did try that a little but I am not sure if it was the right way).

I have heard that the way I made the text displayed on the site pages, using a graphic approach with Photoshop, rather than writing the text using html, means that it will not turn up in searches. One reason I am almost certainly going to redo the site entirely before making a big marketing push.

I use PhotoShop and even put photos with links but I don't think those show up in search engines. Mine never did. I know when I did HTML I put the keywords in that but for the last few years I use FrontPage, Dreamweaver and learning SharePoint. I'l have to look at my website, but I know I put the keywords all through my website, from the heading to the text to various other places. Keywords work and I have gotten a few customers who found me from Googling various words.

I used to work for an SEO company. There is a technical side to SEO, but most of it isn't complicated. The days of having a web developer drop some meta tags and have your site rank high are long gone, though.

There are tons of books out there, but honestly you can learn everything you want from articles online. Some good ones are:

    Search Engine Land
    Search Engine Journal
SEO Moz (this one's a little more technical than the other two, but better)

Try checking out their Twitter feeds - they index all of their recent posts on Twitter.

Keywords are just part of SEO, and honestly, inbound links are much more important when trying to rank for highly competitive keywords than just using said keywords on your website. Some suggestions - have posters use tags when writing blogs or posting new threads. Tags are submitted to search engines and help them categorize your site's content. They're good for SEO. Another good thing about your forum is that people are constantly posting. Google and other search engines give priority to sites with newer content. You could submit your site to DMOZ or Yahoo! Directory or other online directories to improve your ranking. DMOZ is free and I can't remember if Yahoo is.

If you're willing to spend, you could upgrade the forum software to include social media / sharing options for posts, blogs, etc. Ever notice how news sites have "Like" or "Tweet" or other icons allowing you to share the article on Google+, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, etc? Believe it or not, the more shares you get through social networks the better you site does in search engines.

That is true. My website also has a Facebook page and you can "like" my company. I get some customers from that as well.

You're correct. It's the same with website designed with Flash. Search engines can't read images. The text shows up as this: <img src="images/swlogo.png" alt="Stripper Web Exotic Dancer Community" />. That's the banner logo for your site. You did use alternate text though, so that should be fine.

I wouldn't get too caught up in using the right keywords. But if you're interested, at least used the right ones. I used the Google Keyword tool and Wordpot (Wordpot is a little easier to use). See which keywords get the most hits and have the least competition for that keyword.

These are the keywords you're using now (aka meta tags):

<meta name="keywords" content="exotic dancer, stripper, exotic dancing, strip club, strip clubs, faq, advice, chat, forum, strip, lap dance, resources" />

Your page title is "Stripper Web Exotic Dancer Community".

Are you redesigning the site yourself or having someone else do it?

Here's some more stuff from Google: http://googletrafficestimator.com/

Also, try checking out Hubspot and see if they have any cool free eBooks. I've got one for SEO but I can't upload PDFs. I can send it to you if you'd like.

Oh wow thanks for all the replies SCD NOLA and Kellydancer.

SCD I am not redoing Stripperweb, I am only a moderator here. I will PM you the site address if you are interested in seeing it. It's not a forum, it's an extreme lingerie/bikini sologirl site with a lot of bootyshaking, etc.
