I am quite sure there is no one answer to this question.
I chose ccBill because I could not figure out what the advantages or disadvantages to any of them were, and I wanted to get the site up and running ASAP. One of the biggest mistakes in my life, as far as business decisions goes.
If the site had a membership format, it might have been fine--ccBill are big, they are reliable, they instill instant confidence in (most) consumers, they have great support, etc., etc. But they had no fucking clue whatsoever to do with the clip sales format, which was immediately obvious. However, since I had forked over the 750$ non-refundable Visa processing fee, I decided to stick with them.
But now I am trying to decide whether to stay with them, paying the non-refundable renewal fee of 500$ (and possibly even switch to a membership format), or go with another payment processor.
What has been your experience with payment processors? Any other horror stories out there?
Is there any payment processor in the USA that doesn't require the massive non-refundable fee? I have heard that in Europe there is no fee, giving the lie to the rationale that ccBill pawned off on me--that it wasn't their fault at all, it was Visa who was to blame (which of course could still be partly true).
Anyway I'd be very interested to hear about other people's experiences with this.
