    Default Anyone cam in Mexico?

I'm thinking of relocating to Mexico next year, but my only reservation is whether or not I'll be able to get internet that's good enough to support camming. Well, hopefully by then I can just rely on clips so the 8mbps upload I have now won't be as necessary, but according to what I've found online I'd be hard pressed to find an ISP that offers more than 1mbps upload. So does anyone have any experience living/camming in Mexico? Can you recommend a good internet service provider down there? What's the least amount of upload speed you've been able to get away with? Oh, I'm kind of looking at northern Mexico, specifically Nogales, but I don't have a particular city in mind in case that makes a difference. Thanks in advance!

Talk to Melonie. She lives in Central America and her internet is super fast. Maybe Tijuana would be better being so close to San Diego? Tijuanna also has a large American population that lives there and commutes to SD to work/shop/etc.

Just out of curiosity, what makes you want to live there? Are you Mexican or do you speak Spanish? I would love to live in Tijuana (it's basically living in SD but soooooo much cheaper), but I have a child. I have read about Americans who live there and drive across the border for school everyday. I can't imagine dealing with that line everyday! Yikes!

I am not Mexican but I understand Spanish, even though I can't speak it well yet. I've lived in Southern AZ for the past couple of years and Mexico is actually a very short drive from here. In fact, I have a few friends who don't have health insurance so they go to dentists and eye doctors in Mexico on a regular basis. It's so odd to think they're traveling internationally just to have their braces tightened, but I live in a predominantly Mexican city so I guess I'm past the culture shock. I figure since I live in what I call "little Mexico" anyway I might as well just move there, as my expenses would be less but my income would be the same. If I were to move to a border town I estimate that I'd cut my monthly expenses in half but my income would remain the same, and I'd still be able to come up to my current city a couple of times a week to hang out with friends/attend church services/etc. So it just makes sense to move a little farther south into Mexico, but only if I can keep camming and earning what I am now, and that means having acceptable internet, of course.

Yes, I have a friend who successfully split her time between Mexico and Canada, 6 months/6months, for a few years. Excellent earner, no issues with internet. (Although I am sure it depends where you are exactly).

Jessica, do you happen to know what city in Mexico your friend was in? Or her service provider?

hmm try researching internet providers in the areas you are curious about living in, look for reviews and translate them if you have to...I use google translate for ALL sorts of things, but it might be harder researching then it sounds. I always wanted to travel to Mexico, but within the past few years I've been hearing so many horror stories (I'm sure you all know which ones I mean) it scared me out of even considering it for at least a few more years until the media stops reporting so many scary things that were happening...apparently the border towns where Americans usually ventured for shopping and medical are were getting very dangerous (this was about a year ago that I remember seeing stories). I know the cost of living is significantly cheaper, if it weren't for me being a sissy and being scared at everything I hear or read in the news I'd have already moved there lol if you know of a safe area that isn't in any danger of becoming the next turf war setting, I'd say go for it and do whatever you can to find a good IP

Courtney, I unfortunately do not know..... but I do remember her saying that her internet connection was much better than what she had in Canada! :-)

Would you like me to ask her about her city/ISP?

You girls rock. Yeah, Jessica, if you happen to remember to ask her that would be awesome, if not it's no big deal. I probably won't be able to move for a year anyway since I need to save up some money, buy a car, and finish out my current lease.

Yeah, I always hear the horror stories about border towns. I live in Tucson and I used to date a lot of military guys who work on the border, it's crazy some of the things they would tell me. I've been to Nogales, Mexico with friends and I actually love it there, I don't feel like I am in danger when I am there but we only ever go during the daytime. Maybe it'd be scary at night. Also, I am brown and can easily pass for being Mexican, so as long as I can learn to speak Spanish decently I think I'll have an advantage. Well, at least, maybe I'll be less likely to be singled out and kidnapped for ransom because I'm American.

Ive been considering moving to Mexico for about 6 months now. America is going down the toilet fast and Ive been looking for a way out. I found out about a quiet coastal town about 40 minutes south of Tijuana called Rosarito. Ive been looking at prices of rentals and they are AMAZING. 500 dollars a month for 2 bedroom view of the ocean and supposedly there is a cable company that offers business class internet for about 220 a month. I know thats expensive but i think since you will be paying far less in taxes in mexico ( its 6% of income up to 50k then 10% up to 100k) and things are fare cheaper there ( aside from the internet) i think it more than balances out. Plus I could be living near the beach, go surfing on my time off, and smoke blunts on my patio while watching the sunset every day over the water. Not to mention the weather ranges from 70 in the summer to about low 40 in the winter. It really seems like paradise, i just dont know if i can bring myself to actually do it, I dont know much spanish and i wouldnt really know anyone, even though there are alot of american expats living down there.

The only issue ive heard about is gang violence and rolling blackouts. The gang violence should be easy to stay away from as long as your not involved in drug smuggling or anything with the cartels. There are also groups that make money off kidnapping wealthy people, but i think as long as you dont walk around wearing expensive clothing and jewrely and keep to yourself about what you do, youll prolly be fine. My plan is to just tell people im disabled and living off welfare down in mexico cuz its cheaper.

Here are some links to a couple of real estate places down there. They are AMAZING. for the most part the realtors will help you find a nice place within your budget, ( ive been in contact with a couple of them over the internet) and just be sure to emphasize how incredibly important high speed, reliable internet is so that you can do your job. Remember , even though its a foriegn country they still have a job to do and its not to screw you, its to find a place that will meet your needs so that youll be willing to come back to them in the future ( and send recommendations ) and since the drug war is widely blown out of proportion in the united states, these really nice condos and apartments are really desperate to fill vacancies since they made most of their money from tourists, who are no longer coming because they are scared. The famous investor Warren Buffet once said " when others are being fearful, you need to be GREEDY."

Anyways, this is something I really really wanna do and im prolly gonna be checking it out sooner rather than later. However, this is all based on internet research ive done, i have yet to go scope it out in person.

Okay not trying to scare you, but Mexico is REALLY dangerous right now for obvious foreigners. Trafficking is a HUGE HUGE HUGE problem there. Drug, sex, organs, you name it. Most of it doesn't even get American news coverage. I've seen it argued both ways, but there are so many online news articles, and so little TV coverage.

First, drug cartels. Often times, its just a matter of luck. If you are in the same restaurant as where a police car is parked and there are drug cartels in the area, the will take everyone in there and kill them. You may be spared if you are a woman bc I think law enforcement are just males or predominantly males, but still. Odds are it won't happen to you, but there have been dozens of cases of this in the news in cities all over Mexico in the last few years.

Second, sex trafficking is HUGE there! A lot of girls and women who have gone missing in neighboring states have been suspected to be sold into trafficking.

Third, if you don't make enough money for them as a sex trafficked girl/woman, they will kill you and sell your organs on the black market because there's huge money in it. Its HUGE in Mexico right now, and parts of Latin America. I'm not making this up.

So I would say avoid Mexico unless you will be living with/near a native that you know well, or unless you want to move to a tourist city like Cabo. If you are moving by yourself as a woman, that is not a good idea at all. If you move to a tourist city, you probably won't be saving money on housing expenses though unless you're moving from somewhere like NY, LA, or SF.

This is a really intriguing idea, and something I could definitely do. I'm Hispanic and speak Spanish, so I'd blend pretty much. But hubby, he's white, so I don't know if I should be worried about him? I'd love to hear from someone who is actually doing this, because I wanna GTFO of this state, possibly the country.
