Default When did you start trying pole tricks?

The first day I worked I climbed the pole to the top twice and thought I was going to faint! I probably had done it the wrong way, using more of my arms then my legs to hoist myself up.

The second day after my audition I was determined to climb the pole to the top, again.. The club had just opened and there were no customers. Three other girls joined me on the second stage and showed me different ways to climb the pole. I tried, and tried, and tried but I think I was so sore from the past two nights that my body was fighting against me on the pole. Later my boss comes to me a says that I should slow down, it's only my third day.

It's hard not to try, though!Every job I've had I've given it 110% and I want to do the same with dancing!! He also told me that lots of girls barely touch the pole and make bank. Which made me think of a conversation I was having with a customer. We were watching a girl do some great tricks on the pole but he commented that she looked constipated. I told him it was because she was concentrating on what she was doing. Since then I plan on smiling in whatever I am doing.

I want to try new things on stage but am afraid I will fail and turn the customers off. The DJ has introduced me each time I get on stage as "new with us" so maybe they will understand?

How long was it before you started doing pole tricks? Hustling is coming natural to me, which I am so happy about, and my floor-work is sufficient and striving to improve, but my skill on the pole is limited to simple twirls and using it for balance. Sometimes I think I hold on to it too much but the stage isn't that big and would hate to take a tumble OFF the stage.

It is easier to practice before the club opens, when it is dead, or (imho) during a dead interval during day shift (if your club has dayshift). Study your veteran pole queens and youtube videos and practice, practice, practice. Polework is alot of trial and error, and it is also a progressive experience, so don't worry about what you can't do right now. Focus instead on what you are capable of doing and perfect that

It really is something you do for yoursef though. Polework does not always = more money, especially at clubs where a majority of your money is generated off stage.

You've got the right idea with making sure you're smiling when you're up on stage. That will make you exponentially more money than any pole trick will. Focus more on your hustling skills and getting comfortable on stage and in lap dances, rather than expending your energy on pole tricks. If you want to learn for yourself, go for it, but they are really not necessary to make money. Your manager was right - many girls who bank barely even touch the pole.

Pole tricks don't necessarily equal more money. The occasional customer will tip to see tricks, but most of the time it just gives you something to do on stage. It's really smile+eye contact+ look hot.

Another thing to note: Your club's serious pole queens are probably jacked. This turns some customers off depending on your area. Pole takes a tremendous amount of physical strength, flexibility, and stamina. You'll even notice new hand muscles from gripping all the time. So if that's something you want to avoid, you might think twice about doing a lot of pole stuff.

I started with the basic spins and twirls first which I found on Youtube. Pole dancing lessons and/or practice will help but I agree with shanna dior and MyButter - it might be more profitable to perfect your skills off stage if that is where you make the most money.

Thanks so much for the advice, y'all! I'll take to the pole slowly, try and build up the muscles used for it. I've plenty upper body strength from construction and factory work, it's my thighs really that are out of shape but walking in seven-inch heels I am sure will help plenty with that. This morning was the first night I woke up without my legs feeling like jello; glad my body is adjusting so well. My friggin feet are still getting blisters even with tape. Guess I need to do a few layers of it, .

I just want to throw in a word of caution regarding pole tricks, as sm of the girls mentioned above. Polework progesses via trial&error, but if it's smtg you want to focus on always try to have a spotter. I focused on the pole when I started dancing & it's sort of become my crack cocaine, I love learning & perfecting new tricks. But I've torn my body up in the process, I've had more pulled muscles in the last year than in 5 years of martial arts and aggravated tender areas that were already previously damaged from sports injuries. Maybe I'm just getting old This has happened even tho I always try to stretch decently before working & when I have a bit of down time before I go on stage. As one of the girls mentioned, what's going to happen if you hurt yourself at work? Just smtg to keep in mind.

Also, after three months of dancing full-time, all the polework I was doing had me pretty cut. Not Schwarzeneggar type definition, certainly nothing to rival the girls you see on Utube who do pole competitions but the muscles were definitely there to be seen. I wouldn't go so far as to say I look 'jacked'; my build has always been very lean/petite tho, maybe that's why.

I used to just do a few simple spins straight away then I took classes and started doing intermediate tricks. I pretty much destroyed my back even though I was doing it technically correct I have hardly any muscle or fat supporting my ribs so it wasnt fun. Then I got boobies and now I rarely do any tricks cause Im too busy getting tips.

This is the other thing- if you want to get serious with pole, you NEED to be doing resistance training. So much of pole work is dependent on your shoulders- which are fragile joints. People assume pole is mostly core, and while core definitely plays into it, your back is very important too- Doing moves like the Straight Edge will destroy your back if you haven't been working it. There are definitely girls that do pole tricks that don't muscle up, but these girls are typically asking for injuries. If you want to get serious with pole work, you need a body that can handle being thrown around, quite literally.

Honestly just work on it before the club opens, when the club is closing and when the club is died. As you keep dancing, you'll find that new tricks will just sneak into you show. Also you can order dvds online, and watch videos online. But I learned how to work the shit out of the pole only to discover most custies couldn't care less about pole tricks.

I was working in a club w/ no pole. When we did get a pole, somehow I knew how to climb and quickly taught myself some spins. (This was before youtube, so I had nothing to compare my progress). Eventually, I would visit other clubs to see what dancers were doing. I learned some simple up-side-down tricks by just watching them and applying them later. I stuck with this for many years. In the last 3 years, I've learned a lot. I used to try to pop every trick I knew into a shift. This gets pretty tiring. Now, I do the basic spin combos & floor work. Before I go into work, I'll pick one trick I want to work on. If I can do it precisely at home, then I do it at work. This looks much nicer than struggling to get your ass on the ceiling to do a death-lay in front of custies that have no idea what you are doing and if you do land it, will they even find it sexy?

Simple, sexy, control works best, me thinks.

The pole may not mean more money, but it sure means smaller numbers on the measuring tapes (not so much smaller on the scale, though). Well, at least for me. So, I had always done them.

I own a pole and though I'm not a dancer myself, I find it's a great, fun way to work out! Even if you're not interested in doing it particularly for dancing, if you do it for a recreational, fun way to work out, it will help you look more fluid doing basic stuff on stage and it will help keep you in good shape, too. I'm no master at the pole and can't do anything REALLY impressive, but I have found that my body is in a little bit better shape just from jumping on it once in a while and doing the basic spins or the couple of inverted tricks that I CAN do, and it can be a lot of fun. The two major clubs in my town -- one of them, only one girl could do anything on the pole last time I visited (about 2 weeks ago) and the rest just walked around it and acted sexy... The other club in my town, almost EVERY woman in that club could work the pole (also about 2 weeks ago, my close friend works there and is pretty good at the pole). If it's something you're interested in, just make sure you do it the right away and don't push yourself too hard. I watched a lot of youtube tutorials on basic pole spins etc to learn a little bit more, if you're interested, but like everyone else said, pole work doesn't necessarily mean more money.
