Default What Are Your Workout Secrets?

To stay in shape I love to do Yoga (3 times a week), Light weights (2 times a week), light jogging (2 miles; 2 times a week), & long fitness walks/hikes (5-6 miles; 3 times a week).

What are your workout secrets? Or what do you like to do to stay in shape?

I rely on pole dancing to keep me in shape.

Eta: and walking everywhere. Since acquiring an energetic puppy, i also go jogging through the woods 5 days a week...he gets pretty insane if we dont go for a run, so its good motivation^^

I run 2-4 times a week for 3-4 miles. I do heavy strength training on my lower body (leg press and squats) and light training on my upper body once a week. I want to work yoga back in, but I am a broke student and will need to shop around for a good class since my old and much loved class is 1600 miles away.

There's some really good Yoga DVD's out there. One of the best, that I have now, is the Jillian Michael's Yoga Meltdown Workout. It's a really good one. 2 separate Yoga workouts, each for 30 minutes. You will definitely break into a sweat.

    Eating clean and lifting heavy.

I don't do much cardio intentionally, but I walk everywhere I can and the instant the club is dead, I'm on the pole practicing.

I do an hour at the gym 5-6 times a week.
I'll do the classes, and on days I miss a class, just use the machines.
I like the classes a lot more though, they keep me motivated and I like how things are switched up.
I get super bored staying in one spot for a long time.

Then just eating better, smaller portions.

My kids motivate me to go to the gym. They go to a Kids Club there and absolutely love it. So they're always like, "Mom, let's go to the gym...pllleeaaseee" lol

I also like going in the morning right when I wake up. I feel like I eat better the rest of the day and avoid mindless snacking.
I figure I just worked hard, don't want to "ruin it" with some junk lol
Whereas if I go in the evening, I feel like I am "allowed" to snack more because "ohh..I'm going to the gym in a few hours, I'll work it all off"
lol, yeah, it's all in my head..weird.

Thanks for this suggestion! I got it today, its great! I havn't worked out properly in a year. I just go 1 time a week or every other week and arent too happy with my body right now. That I started going to the gym, I tried this after and did disc 1, its good for a beginner.. Easy in serveral parts, and difficult in others where I felt my muscles tensing up and twitching which I love. Im going to be doing it everyday.. its about 30 mins too! So easy to have time and not go anywhere... She explains very well too. I tried other yoga dvds wasnt too happy with their examples and details

Heavy lifting (not up to the point of puking, though) about 2 times a week, some sort of body conditioning workout once every week if possible (pilates, yoga, stretching etc) and some sort of cardio (running, walking, spinning etc) in between. Altogether about an hour per day.

Pilates reformer, pump classes, yoga occasionally, weight training. I walk an hour each day to uni normally but I'm injured at the moment so have not been walking or running. Sometimes I'll do cardio - step, high impact aerobics if I'm trying to lose weight.

The best workout for me is Surfing... hands down. Works your legs, core, back and arms.

I still hit the gym. However, it is summer and I'd rather be in the water then in a hot gym for three hours.

If I ever think about not going to the gym I just go to Wal Mart and take a look in the cookie/soda aisle. That's enough to send me SCREAMING to the treadmill!

usually I do HIIT cardio 2/3 times a week, weights 2/3 times a week and yoga 2/3 times a week.
I also swim twice a week, but I dont push myself if Ive done a cardio session that day.
Im gestating (STILL!!!!) but will get back to my old routine once I pop.
Theres no sense crying over every mistake,
you just keep on trying till you run out of cake

It's pretty easy once one gets the hang of it.

With regards to sharks, I try not to think about it especially when I am waiting for a wave and my legs are dangling on each side of my board. lol

5K on a trail four days a week. 15K on Sunday morning if I don't race. Or if I'm in a 5K race, I'll skip the long run and shoot for 18:00 flat in the race. Then I'll do an easy 8-10K recovery run after the race.

Usually around 45 mins of cardio a day. I also walk 2 miles every day I work, which is about 3-4 days a week. Other than that, I eat well.

Handstand pushups. Been doing these for years--it's where you go from a headstand to a handstand, like doing the military press.

That and hitting the heavy bag with weighted gloves which makes it a lot harder--great for cardio, speed, and strength.

I want to start walking more. I'm contemplating walking to work (3 miles there and 3 miles back) a few times a week. I also try to do 5 sets of 20 push ups a day. I also take pole dancing classes. The push ups are mostly to give me more arm strength on the pole.

Also been practicing doing the splits and walking backwards at work when I pull stuff out of the backroom. Good leg work out! And no one knows what I'm doing. They just think it must be really heavy.

i only really work the pole and walk everywhere these days
but a few years ago when i was a competitive gymnast i was shredded! we always did really intense strenght & flexibility conditioning before we could concentrate on flips and routines.

    SO basically:
    - one training day a week we went for long runs. then there was a staircase that lead up a cliff on the beach so we did rounds. basically run up the first flight, run all the way down, run up first and second flight, run all the way down. repeat until you reach 7/8th flight or top of whatever staircase youre on and do repeats.

    - for abs: v-snaps and leg lifts. so for v snaps you lie on the ground arms and legs extended, then pull them both up so basically youre sitting and touching your toes above your head at the same time then lower back down. did 30 repeats each session. fast and controlled with no rebounds. leg lifts were basically done on the asymmetric bars, hang down lift legs all the way to hands then lower. no swinging.

-arms: chinups. normal grip, reverse grip, chin up hold for one minute etc. all the way pushups, handstand pushups, handstand against wall and hold for a minute squeezing tight.

then lots of other gymnastics stuff like skills resistance training and ballet training.

this all may be old news to everyone who works out regularly but its really worked for me. ive never felt so strong in my life even though i was bulky like a dude lol.

regular gyms tend to bore me [though i may have to sign up and do rounds anyway soon] so i just go to dance classes and gymnastics classes for retired gymnasts. also keen to do some self guided aqua aerobics in the summer.
FUCK YEAH finally retired after 6 years dancing!!

Before I get to the gym, I always make a plan of what exercises i'll be doing, how many sets, and how many reps. Small goals are way better than no goals!

Listen to your body, and manage your heart rate. Keep it high and consistent throughout your workout, but not too high, or you'll just be working against yourself. (do some research to find out what will work best for you)

Shake it up. Don't do the same old thing every single time.

Eat properly. Food is your fuel! You wouldn't put unrefined off-road fuel into a Ferrari would you? No way
