    Default Transition to Independent Escort

Hi! Am pretty new both here and in the industry, but I'd like to contribute more as I gain experience.

Question for independent escorts: if you first started with an agency, how much time did you spend there before you went indie?

For the ladies that are currently self-managing, how much time on average do you spend on the office side vs. meeting clients?

Have any of you used services like companion concierge.net or escort assistant.net?

I'm saving up to get ready to work on my own, but it's probably going take a while. Between learning the ropes, raising capital, setting up advertising, good photos, a good website, lodging and transportation for touring, etc., there's a lot to organize.

Well I was with agency on and off for a few years before I finally went indie and going indiy wasn't a slow transitiotn for me it was pretty abrut for me . If your able to I suggest attending the www.theprovideronlyretreat.com that way you can meet many more independents and also learn things for business. its coming up in about 3 weeks so you can't have a short time to plan the trip its in vegas this year.

it really depends the agencies are different and each ones have thier quirks that make you want to go jump on your own. reading the book by Amanda Brooks helps a lot and also ST James Infirmary has a great book as well.

Well I would say I spent about almost 90% of my time doing management work, website updates, marketing, researching photographers, and filtering out emails and posting on boards and also I would add in talking with other escorts as well. I work maybe about 10 a hour a month when it comes to seeing clients sometimes 20 a month.

Well there is a cpiatal to consider when starting up but it can be less expensive then you think depending on who you hire for a web design you spend about $500 or less for a website. high heel design has reasonable prices and some girls who are tight on a budget but still want a proffessional looking website I have noticed have been using cutie-tools.com

I amange everything by myself I like it better that way knowing exactly what is going on in my business and who I will be seeing. when you have to many people invovle its too many people to worry about.

depdning on your city you might not need to tour right away so worring about the budget for travel and hotels nad touring can come later.

    Thanks, Minnie!

I had a look at the Provider Retreat, are you going? Vegas would be so fun! I'm really interested in the marketing/financial talks, but I'd prefer to keep a low profile.

Kind of intimidated by the idea of seeing all these people in public. I wish there were an online-version of the retreat.

    What made your transition abrupt?

My agency's ok, but I recently found out that they don't always screen, which worries me. And I know they have overhead but the cut's still pretty steep. I figure if I bust my butt I can go indie by next year.

Did read Amanda's 1st book and have to get the other one. Yeah, it looks like there're some reasonable web options. Will check out cutie-tools.com, too.

Is this the St. James that you mean? http://stjamesinfirmary.org/ the site seems to be down.

Thanks so much for the insight on how you run things. You wear a lot of hats! Anyone who says escorting isn't "real" work has absolutely no clue.

yes I will be going to the retreat hoping there something i can learn that I can use its a lot different here in Canada for escorting. you shouldn't feel intimidated since the retreat they screen everyone who is attending and everyone there is in the industry from well experience to just starting out. so it would be a place where you can definitely get all your questions answer and probably will be able to go independent sooner then you think. All agencies start off ok when your new to them but after 3 to 6 months that is when things turn. if the agency your with doesn't always screen well that could put your own safety at risk. the over head they have it is because of how many girls they have but when you add up the numbers its a similar overhead to you being independent probably the same amount or less depending on how they advertise.

Basically break it down, they got a phone line, website, maybe a drivers or girls are driving themselves, and online listings.

Good luck with the retreat, it sounds like a blast! What happened with the agency after 3-6 months? Did they treat you badly? Would be foolish of them to do that, considering that you're the one pulling in the cash for them.

If I could just interject here on your last question, Aether, I'm thinking "no". Agencies are constantly advertising for new ladies, so often times quanity takes precedent over quality - you bring in cash, yes, but most likely not any more than any other girl.

Plus, most girls get that new girl phase when you get a ton of appointments and are super popular...during that time things between you and the agency will seem awesome. And then, the cash flow slows down and your simply no longer a priority.

Think about it, if you were your average agency, would you rather have a bunch of escorting veterans, with all the knowledge needed to go indy at any moment, with an extensive amount of advertising required for each of them to stay relevant -OR- a bunch of fresh new faces every couple months who have no idea what they are doing and therefore cling to your expertise.

Of course, there are exceptions, but they are very rare and very very selective.

Good point about the new faces vs. veterans. I guess in an ideal world an agency would treat their escorts like gold since the ladies are the ones going out and making the clients happy.
