Sad Stabbing pains in upper back / shoulder blades. What can I do?

I'm a camgirl (have been for almost a year now), and a huge portion of my life is spent sitting at my laptop.
I don't have a chair. I sit or lay on my bed (so no back support).

Recently I've been getting horrible stabbing pains around my shoulder blade area. I feel like the muscles are so, so sore.
They happen even when I've taken a whole week off work and when I'm doing daily chores. I don't know what I can do about this. The only thing I've done is take painkillers for it but then they wear off and the pains come back.

I want to go see my doctor about this but I am worried he will just give me some painkillers and nothing to actually help remedy the problem. Is there anything I should ask him about that could help me?
Should I go see a massage therapist or something?
Does anyone know of any home solutions that could help?

Any help is much appreciated! x

A doctor might help, or they might give you more painkillers; a chiropractor could tell you what's wrong. From there, a massage or physical therapist could do something, but they'd need a chiro to tell them where exactly to help.

I sit in front of computers all day myself - when my upper back was screaming at me about 10 years ago, I went to my doctor; he gave me 3 kinds of painkillers. I went to a chiropractor, who referred me to a physical therapist. Some of my tendons were pulled really tight from hunching my shoulders too much, and the therapist just stretched me back out.

Stabbing pains means you have a pulled muscle. Go to a massage therepist and chiro until it subsides.

I get the same pain you're describing if I lay on my side on the couch or bed with my laptop. It's a bad habit of mine. I get this little knot about halfway down my shoulderblade, and it feels like it's right underneath my scapula. If this is the same thing you're feeling, a massage therapist will probably help. If you tell him/her where the pain is, and describe how it got there, they'll probably be able to work it out for you. I'd schedule a one hour massage and have them focus on your upper back. Deep tissue would probably be best. It may hurt while they're working it out, but you'll feel much better afterward. It helps me if I make a conscious effort to lie with my back flat up against the back of the couch.

Massage therapists sometimes specialize in deep tissue which tricks your muscle into relaxing. It's applying almost painful pressure and engaging the muscle in whatever action it does- works great.

Also, vascular flushes- very very hot compress then a very very cold one. Google the treatment, it will tell you temps and lengths of time.

    Epsom salt bath

I do massage therapy work and suggest you try all three, starting w contacting a local MT. Perhaps one that specializes in Rolfiny

If you have an iPad or IPhone I found these amazing apps that are helping w/ knee pain I developed lately. I also do see a chiro every now and then for the last two years. Even if I feel great, I pop in to see her just to see if I'm alieigned properly. The app is called 'Stretch The Pain Away". They have it for four areas of the body @ 3.99 per app. It's developed by a PT from Hawaii.
