Default Rent camming space or hire someone to set up server/ 3g bundled connection?

    Hi all,

Over the last year or so I've been searching for the answer to my shitty upload/ broadband speed woes. Having discounted satellite because of latency, mobile broadband because of dropouts, leased lines because of price, and given up on any hope of cable in the sort of areas i want to live, I have just been given a suggestion - use an online server to route/ bundle multiple mobile 3g connections, thereby getting the increased speed and bypassing the connection dropouts. I'm not sure exactly how to do this, or how to go about finding someone that does. So... i have a choice, and I'd like your opinions/ suggestions/ experience..

Find a place we'd like to live then rent an apartment/ commercial space to cam from. It would cost me an extra £300 - £500 per month to do this. Or, look into the above option, which right now is sounding cheaper and means i can cam from home. But fuck, it's complicated lol.

Also, if this is better suited to industry insight, please move it over x

i am assuming you have fully investigated adsl / broadband at your location and for what ever reason you are unable to get a service that works. too far from n exchange being the likely cause, or interference from common household objects that emit electrical interference, such as microwaves, old house wiring, which can often be cured by buying an special plate that covers your telephone socket to reduce interference.

If upload broadband speeds are important to you, be sure to choose an ISP that takes its upload speed seriously. The best upload speeds you can currently expect from consumer ADSL lines are on following link

if you've looked at all these then read on.......

leased line: a leased line will be cheaper than 300-500 a month. depends on exact service but likely cost is in region of 150 - 250 a month.
check providers at your location here http://www.hso.co.uk/leased-lines/le...ine-providers/

    and eclipse come highly recommended

bonded dal: this is where multiple dsl connections are bonded together. a great alternative to leased lines

    fibre broadband:

bonded 3g connections. i think this is what you might be referring to when you talk about an "online server to route/ bundle multiple mobile 3g connections". essentially it is a number of 3g connections, banded together, in a box, to provide a good connection speed.

i'd recommend hiring a good IT consultant to look at your probs with regular broadband / adsl first, unless you already know you're too far from an exchange for this to ever be a decent speed.

we are too far... all the areas i'm looking at are in the dark ages when it comes to internet. we're talking download speeds of "up to" 3mb! Cable is so far on the horizon it's not going to be in my lifetime! We have thought about compromising and living in a more built up area but frankly i hate the thought of it. We live surrounded by fields atm and i don't want to live in coronation st! lol

Unfortunately bt leased lines are around 12 - 18k from what i've just seen. So that is well beyond the extra 300 - 500 per month i would pay to rent a space fr camming. Plus i believe this extra place could be tax deductable (i.e. the whole rent, plus bills?).

I've looked into bonded as I said and was told in most cases it results in a worse speed as one line may pull the others down if you're too far from the exchange etc.

Thanks I'll have a look at those last few links you posted re bundled 3g x

aha, i imagine leased line is expensive due to the rural location.

perhaps your best bet is to find a commercial space (or a studio flat) to cam from. i'd recommend that you choose the location carefully by using the postcode to identify ISP's who will provide top notch service for upload speeds, as per the list above.

however there is one more solution. if you can get people who live in your rural together it would be possible to get decent broadband. have a look here to see if there are any projects kicking off in your area.

on the subject of latency and satellite you are right, there are issues, but they are getting better. might be worth having a chat with this provider and see what they say

Satellite is a long way off being an option. I already looked into tooway last year. As I say thr only options are 3g or renting a space to cam from. I'm considering which will be the best most cost effective option.

Found a couple of companies offering vpn with bonded 3g. Gotta wait till after the bank hol to find out and I dare say it won't come cheap, but this could be the answer!
