Default Dancing with a Torn Meniscus

I've had a fucked up knee since before I started dancing. It was swollen, and I always had this dull, nagging pain in my kneepit (I just had to take the opportunity to use that word) and it was really difficult bend/straighten my leg. I had surgery in June, and after a few weeks I started to feel a lot better. My physical therapist ok'd me returning to work. I still couldn't bear much weight on the knee, so kneeling on stage was very difficult. One night, I was sitting on a bar stool talking to a customer. I stood up and had this sharp, excruciating pain where they removed the cartilage. Ever since then, my knee has been in consistent pain. I've already seen my surgeon and she's afraid I've torn it again. The icing on the cake is I'm now having similar pre-surgery pain in my non-surgery knee.

So my question is: has anyone else successfully returned to dancing after a meniscectomy?

I had torn my ACL and meniscus and had surgery about a year and a half ago. I took my time(8 months) to let it heal and waited to go back. It takes a full year to completely heal. Even over a year out but I have felt as if it will never be the same again. I have sharp pains randomly then they go away. Sometimes it will swell up and things just feel generally weak in my knee it feels as if I could do it again any second. My other knee hurts sometimes too because of it compensating for the other knee so long. I just take ibuprofen at work whenever I feel it hurting it will reduce any swelling and make it hurt less. If its really hurting ill ice it for a few hours after work.

Ask about meniscal repair. It takes longer to heal than a meniscectomy but after it heals there is usually a lot less swelling and a lot less pain.

The bad news is that it is usually more expensive and most surgeons limit it's application to patients under 25.
