Have you had this happen to you? Show up at client's place, lovely home in a fancy neighborhood. Client's cool and everything looks kosher. Then he says, "Don't mind him, he's just hanging out." I look in the direction he motions and there's this huge guy sitting in an armchair in the darkened corner, about 30 feet away. Can I tell you I damn near have a heart attack?! I take a second to debate hightailing out of there or not. Guy in the corner says he's the bodyguard. He's actually very nice and introduces himself.
So my client started getting friendly while his bodyguard was still there. It made me uncomfortable and I asked to move somewhere more private. I'm glad things didn't get ugly, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit I was scared for a bit. When time with my client was up, he asked me if I would also hang out with his bodyguard. I couldn't stay then, but I guess if I saw that client again and had more time I'd consider it. Would you accept? It'd be like gaining a new client without having to advertise. How would you handle the screening, since the request was impromptu? PMs always welcome.
