    Default Retin A and Melanotan?

I've been on Mel II for a few months and I'm about to start Retin A. I know you can't go in the sun when you're on retin A so I'm trying to figure out the best way to do both, if it's possible. Say I could still tan to boost my Mel II and just cover my face, but my concern is actually just being on both at the same time. Would it be safe? Would they counteract one another? I don't want to cause any unneccessary complications. Just wondering if anyone else has done both at the same time and how you went about doing so.

I'm really done with spray tanning so that's kind of out for me.

    Thanks in advance!

Do you mean those melanin injection things? Because the two should not interact. Those injections increase the amount of pigment in your skin. The reason using retin a and going out in the real sun is not recommended is because retin a makes your skin photosensitive to UV rays. Meaning your skin cannot produce enough melanin quick enough to protect your cells and you will be burnt. With injections you are not exposing your skin to UV you are just increasing melanin production in your melanocytes. I dont know what other risks or any other possible drug reaction between the two but photosensitivity (and sun burn) should not apply. If anything the melanin injections would be making you less photosensitive. Thats why it is being studied as a skin cancer prevention option. I donno if that helps because I dont have first hand experience but seems fine to me.

Retin-A causes sun sensitivity... so sunless tanning shouldn't interact too badly, but you may end up with some hyperpigmentation.

Im not a scientist, but if you are using a product that increases melanin production, it should not react with retin a..people who naturally have high level of melanin (like me) still use retin-a, and still have to stay out of the sun while using it. As jessie_tinydancer said the reaction is with UV rays from the sun (or tanning bed?), not with melanin

The products won't interact... but you shouldn't tan while you're using retin-a because it increases your sensitivity to sun. Just covering your face isn't enough. The melanotan you're probably tanning to reap the benefits so you should choose one or the other and use them seperately. Also the melanotan will give you a lot of freckles/sunspots. The tan will fade but the sunspots won't go away. Just so you know. But it will make you skinny.
