Unless you're a feature dancer with a contract to come work in an American club, there's no way you can dance in the US legally. There are, however, many clubs that will look the other way and hire foreign dancers, particularly in cities where licenses aren't required. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that avenue as a club that's willing to overlook a dancer's legal right to work is likely willing to overlook other laws, but it's certainly doable.

There are definitely plenty clubs that would hire you, but unless you're some kind of D-list celebrity or porn star etc, you're not going to get an entertainment visa. For that, a club has to fill out all the paperwork for you for immigration, with specific dates they'll be advertising that you 'appearing" at their club, show information etc. If you're in school, there's a season work visa you can get that's pretty much unlimited as to the job you can do, including stripping, but otherwise you wouldn't really be able to stay on the legal side. But, you could definitely find somewhere to be hired.

Actually, this US law was recently changed. US Student visa work opportunities are now confined to on-campus jobs. The US H2 or seasonal work visa now carries a requirement that a prospective employer must A. back the visa application in advance of State Dep't visa approval, and B. prove to the State Dep't that the work involved cannot be ( easily ) performed by a US citizen.

Thus in the absence of 'feature' or 'porn star' status, and in the absence of an advance booking by a US club, there is essentially zero chance of a Canadian citizen being able to work legally in a US club.

Typically, all corporate / upscale US clubs will require full dancer ID's and proof of legal work status ( citizenship or green card ), because they simply don't want to deal with the potential problems from ICE, potential bad publicity, etc.

But, as others have already posted, there is no shortage of independently owned US clubs that are willing to turn a 'blind eye' toward allowing a hot foreign dancer to work without a visa. Unfortunately, such US clubs are also likely to turn a similar 'blind eye' toward other US laws such as prostitution, drugs etc. if it means more profit for the clubowner ! And, unfortunately, it is not unheard of for certain US clubs to use the illegal work status of a foreign dancer as 'leverage'.

Actually I'm talking about a J-1 summer visa for someone who is a student in Canada, such as here http://www.bunac.org/uk/workamerica/ , not someone in the US on a student visa. A US student visa such as an F-1 would definitely restrict her to campus jobs only

You wont have much problem getting hired in Florida.I dont know about california.I have friends who have worked in LA without visas but I dont think the money is great in cali. Florida is probably better but only in season (nov-may).I worked in a few places in florida. My favourite was Key West.

Don't worry, it's hard for everyone who isn't American to work in the States. But if you're that uncomfortable working without a visa, you may as well forget about working in the US.
