Default Newbie Q's: Taxes and Webcams

    Hey everyone,

From what I've gathered in the Dollar Den it's a VERY good idea to keep track of my earnings and properly file my taxes. I have signed up with LiveJasmin and it seems I should NOT be expecting a 1099 from them, correct? Bristol mentions this here http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...ivejasmin+1099. I have a feeling they'll start submitting them soon with current pressure on the IRS.

Anyways, my printed out earnings from the website should be sufficient come tax season, correct? I hate to seem like a total dunce but I want to double check this info. I have never had to file taxes as an independent contractor and I'm a bit nervous!

Lastly, I wish I had done more research on the actual cam part of camgirl because after my old laptop died last month, I invested in a fancy new MacBook Air, thinking the camera would be sufficient. Have any girls here had luck getting by with the Mac cam and really good lighting? I have access to professional photographers lighting gadgets (thanks roomie!)

    Thanks so much everyone!

    Honey

^^^ Please accept my nomination for the Best Screenname Award. :-)

(I don't actually know anything about LJ or Macs, so my presence in this thread is useless from a practical standpoint. Apologies. Although -- I would recommend reading the stickied thread about how to do a SEARCH in camming connection. I think your questions have been hashed and rehashed before. That old info will still be super useful when you find it.)

For taxes if its a site that does not issue 1099s you can either use your own records (go through your bank statements or payoneer records and add up the deposits and come up with a total amount earned) or use your earnings from the site - printed out or viewed online in the same fashion.

You would just need the total amount earned. IRS does not want multiple sheets of paper from you showing the individual deposits you received. (If you are really curious about your taxes and what your tax liability would be I would recommend going online to a site like turbotax or tax act and entering in some fake personal info but your real financial numbers(or rather in your case, since youre new and havent cammed yet, you would enter what you expect to earn working from sept-dec). The tax amounts will be for last year but the rates dont change much year to year so you'll get a good idea about what you'll owe and what it will be like when do need to file in a few months . Or if youre better with pen and paper go to the IRS site and download the old fashioned paper forms and instructions and read through them.)

As for Macbooks and webcams, I would search a bit more about that. I know some sites are not too mac friendly but I dont remember which ones. Most of the big box sites use software that is designed to run best with PCs.

I dont know too much about their cams either but generally using a built in cam, even a good one sucks because its hard to get flattering angles. Theres only so many positions you can put it in and still be able to see the screen. Most girls use the Logitech C910 and C920 and again I dont know if they are Mac compatible.

Thanks for the replies and the screenname nomination! ::

I found this thread about Macbook cams http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...ht=macbook+air. It's pretty encouraging but it seems like the inability to position it might be a hindrance.......we'll see.

I still wonder about LJ's compatibility with Macs. The best info I could gather is here http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...mac+livejasmin but it's from 2010! That's a long time in website update years.

And finally, the tax info is just what I needed to hear! Thanks for the reassurance and the turbotax tip. It's actually kind of fun to plug in fake info and imagine "what if....."

You can get away with a built in cam on a Mac, but lighting must be super good!

Having a detachable one is WAY EASIER though (and you can make interesting angles happen... hello upskirt shots!), so make sure there's an "upgrade my cam" fund in your near future. :-)
