    Question Documentary recommendations on Netflix

    Hi everyone

I've recently joined the Netflix bandwagon and I'm looking for some suggestions on good documentaries to watch. I've googled for suggestions but each site basically has the same 25 movies listed so now I'm looking for documentaries that are flying below the radar persay.

    Here are some of my suggestions;

The Hollywood Complex - It's about children trying to make it big in Hollywood.

The Pruitt-Igoe Myth - It's about the Pruitt-Igoe projects in St. Louis.

No End in Sight - It's a very popular documentary about the War in Iraq. It's a must watch.

Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers - Title says it all.

Forgiving Dr. Mengele - Tells the life story of a twin subjected to experiments at Auschwitz.

Blood in the Face - Interesting documentary about Neo-Nazis.

Dear Zachary - This documentary is #1 on pretty much all of the "must watch" lists that I googled.

Children Underground - It's about children living in the subway in Romania.

Waiting for Armageddon - It's about a group of Evangelical Christians.

Restrepo - Another documentary about the war in Iraq but this one follows a group of soldiers.

Deliver us from Evil - It's about the scandals in the Catholic church, focusing on one priest in particular.

Verdict on Auschwitz - Title says it all. You have to really be into the Holocaust for this to interest you because you'll be reading 3 hours of subtitles.

For the Bible Tells Me So - It's about strict religious families dealing with a gay or lesbian family member.

'fat, sick and nearlly dead' is an awesome one.

its a a documented journey on a man who is sick, fat and nearly dead as he self meditate his self with a very healthy jucing diet. its a real eye opener and it inspired me to change my diet as well. once i stared juicing, or making vegetable smoothies, my energy level has increased, my skin looks a million times better than it ever had, and i feel like an overall happy person.

The strip game- its not super groundbreaking, but its a documentary done by method man about strippers.

30 days by morgan spurlock (supersize me)- its hour long episodes (2 seasons) about people who switch lives for 30 days. Abortion clinic worker/christain pregnancy home. illegal immigrants/border patrol poverty/well to do. its a pretty good series

cnbc: dirty money- news report about high end prostitution, quite interesting!

I had this one on my iPod and it is amazing. It made me question a lot about movies and how they are rated.

Documentaries are the only thing I watch. Here are some good ones they have for instant streaming
    Art:
Exit through the gift shop - fun type
Wasteland - very moving/ highly recommend

    Social/Political:
Flow for the Love of Water
    Food, Inc.
    End of the Road
    America the Beautiful 1
    Waiting for Superman

    Hard to watch:
The Devil Came on Horseback - about Darfur
Earthlings - about animals will make anyone cry. Think it is only on DVD now

If you want to stream one for free that is on youtube I recommend:
    Obsession: documentary about radical Islam.

^Idk why but I love hard to watch documentaries. The Devil Came on Horseback just jumped to the top of my must watch list.

The Woodsman about photographer Francesca Woodsman. Amazing documentary. A bit slow but you see her influence in everywhere
I know its not on netflix but Vice magazine channel on youtube has some really cool documentaries as well.
There's one about the suicide forest of Japan that is heartbreaking but beautiful. A few about North Korea as well as Kurdish female military.

It's funny that 30 Days is mentioned; I was about to recommend "Fat Head" anyway. GREAT (although low-budget) documentary exposing Morgan Spurlock as a fraud in the first half, and the bullshit we're all taught about what's healthy in the second half. Everyone should watch it, it will change not only what you eat, but how you diet forever.

This is not only about food, but relates to 30 Days because after watching this I went on one of my "it's the principle" kicks and started researching more about Morgan Spurlock and his work before and after "Supersize Me". The guy is full of shit, always has been, and much of what was seen on "30 Days" was staged and edited within an inch of it's life. It's always a shame when someone you thought was doing the world some good is exposed as a fraud, and this guy is BAD.

I second FOOD, INC -- it literally made me stop eating fast food altogether. No kidding.

Also EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP -- amazing. Who cares if it's real or not - damn entertaining.

HOT COFFEE -- fascinating look at that famous McDonald's case where a woman sued because the coffee was too hot. Trust me, it's horrific and she was in the right.

INSIDE JOB -- Matt Damon narrates. A look at the financial collapse in 2008. Scary and infuriating.

PARADISE LOST: THE CHILD MURDERS AT ROBIN HOOD HILL -- Focuses on the wrongly convicted West Memphis Three. Amazing doc that led to real change.

THE BEST WORST MOVIE -- hilarious, quirky doc about how TROLL 2 was made.

DARKON -- Funny, quirky, heartbreaking, but always respectful towards it's subjects: the guys who play real-life, dress-up Dungeons and Dragons games known as LARPing.

ANVIL: THE STORY OF ANVIL -- funny, sure, but surprisingly inspirational and emotional - highly, highly recommend.

KING OF KONG -- probably the most entertaining on this list - you can't make up these characters. about the quest for the high score on Donkey Kong, but don't let the subject matter put you off. totally 100% fun and moving.

Yeah, the only episodes that I found of 30 Days that were even remotely worth watching were the ones recommended here (the abortion one and the one on immigration). The pilot episode where he and his wife live off of minimum wage reminded me of Supersize Me (which I hated). He did everything he possibly could to make his 30 days harder than it needed to be and he and his wife bitched and moaned the entire time. Then there was the episode on outsourcing which was an hour of my life that I'll never get back. Oh and then there was the episode on Atheists living with Christians and honestly, he could not have found a worse Atheist participant had he tried. A lot of what Morgan Spurlock does is full of fluff and dramatics but he gets two thumbs up for the abortion and immigration episodes. Everything else he has a hand in is about as shitty as Supersize Me imo.

Ughh I'm so tempted to take off work today and knock this list out. I'm embarrassed at how excited I am to find out that that coffee lawsuit wasn't frivolous after-all.

Your list looks pretty interesting. Was Deliver us from Evil as good as it sounds? I saw Hot Coffee and it was pretty good.
