I gave Deliver Us from Evil 5 stars on Netflix. Everyone in the documentary (the priest, some of his victims, the victims' families, and some other people effected by the crimes) were surprisingly open and forward which is what makes it so good.

Of Dolls and Murder is absolutely fascinating. John Waters narrates the piece. Cocaine Cowboys. Freakonomics. And one of my personal favorites is Man on Wire which one best documentary Oscar.

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia
I saw this on Showtime this past winter and it totally blew me away. It's about this insane hillbilly family that has earned a reputation of drining, drugging, fighting, and generally raising hell in this town. This cycle of chaos goes on because they abuse the welfare system, but for a "good" cause. You want to hate them, but they're so personable and funny.
I know that it the worst description ever, but it's so nutty that it's one of those films that has to be "experienced". There's tons of clips and the official trailer on YouTube. This film was entertaining, but informative to a way of life that I didn't think really existed anymore that has collided into the 21st century.
Anyone have any new documentaries to add to the list?

"Detropia" about Detroit and what it's like today after the car factories have shut down. How people are still living there when so many have gone other places.

There's a whole TV series type one on Auschwitz, called Inside the Nazi State. I found it pretty interesting (though it can be boring at first... takes a bit to get into stuff).
After Porn Ends was decent. It wasn't all "I found Jesus!" and had some guys in there too. Most of it is around Asia Carrera.
You guys know I am the big horse girl on here, but I think there were a few others... anyways, there's:
Wild Horse, Wild Ride, which is about how these trainers take the BLM wild mustangs for 100 days and then have a competition on who trained the best.
Buck, which is about the real life "horse whisperer"
Bullrider, which is just 90 minutes of pro bull riders... not bad to look at, fun to watch get thrown off.
"People jack off with the left hand and point with the right."
"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

Heartily recommend We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks, if you don't end up feeling conflicted about Julian Assange then you're not paying attention. Warning: he's a righteous dick who is sometimes right and the women he assaulted are just sad.

Okay, I agree with you that "Fathead" did an excellent job of the politics in the scientific community regarding saturated fat-the faulty theory promoted by Ancel Keyes, the fact that there has never been a single scientific study that has linked a high fat diet to increased rates of heart disease. Naughton supports the theories of NY times science writer Gary Taubes (as do I, to an extent). Naughton is a proponent of the Paleo diet, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with promoting this diet and diets similar to it.
What I did NOT like about the documentary is it's bias for "small government" and it's mockery of the Vegan lifestyle; it smacked of propaganda. It had a nasty tone, and it doesn't help Naughton's claim to fame is some D-list actor and a comedian who does the cruise ship circuit.
What was truly laughable was at the end of the documentary when he threw out a few stupid anecdotes: "some people just are genetically predisposed to be fat" ( sure, but science states that diet is a very large part of the equation, more important than genetics), "your grandmother knew that eating too much starches makes you fat", etc. Really?! Naughton spent most of the documentary illustrating the science to disprove a high carb diet and now he throws out these unscientific morsels?(shakes head)

I also recommend After Porn Ends.
I've been kinda WAY into documentaries on netflix this past 2 months.
Last night I watched "Tent City" and "Dark Days," both about homelessness.
Oldie but goodie: "Religulous" even though Bill Maher is a tool.
"The Union: The Business Behind Getting High"
"Cocaaine Cowboys" both 1 and 2.
"Waste Land"
"Shut Up Little Man" - sooooo good, based on Audiotape.
"A NormL Life"

I'm not sure if these are on Netflix or not, but they're both great.
"The Cove" - It's about how some activists managed to get hidden camra footage of the dolphin killing cove in japan, and has lots of other tidbits about what it's really like for dolphins in captivity. It almost feels like a spy movie when you watch it.
"The Blackfish" Is about killer whales in captivity.
The Cove is amazing. I've watched it.

Sharkwater is along those lines, it's about the shark finning industry.
"People jack off with the left hand and point with the right."
"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."
Blackfish isn't on netflix but it's so good. Must watch.

I just finished Medicine and Money. Quite interesting! It's about overdiagnosis, excessive treatments and keeping people alive without recovery, in relation to how much it all costs Medicare/insurance/patients.
"People jack off with the left hand and point with the right."
"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

Here's one:
Wal-mart the high cost of low price. Talks about how Wal-Mart has ruined the economy, environment and everything else.
These aren't available on Netflix more than likely but Frontline (the PBS show)has done some amazing documentaries. They have many on their site.
Just watched Tent CIty: USA. Very good.
Lost Angels : Skid Row is my home is about the homeless in LA. It's on netflix and it's very good. Very touching.
My Amityville Horror. It's about one of the children that lived in the house following the mass murder. It's pretty interesting. You can see just how messed up he is in the head though and that's sad. It's on netflix.
Dirty Wars and We Steal Secrets were both pretty good docs released this year.

If you exhaust your supply on Netflix![]()

Don't think it's on Netflix, but just watched, "Love, Marylin." It broke my cold stripper heart into a thousand pieces. So sweet and SO sad, at the same time.

Starting to watch some stuff from this thread, watched tent city is good. Also watched sensing murder and underworld America.
xoxo

Wanna cry all day? Oh man, I've seen this a few times....once I think it was even on Dateline or 20/20. TEARS FOREVER. NO MOTIVATION AFTER SEEING IT BECAUSE, YES, IT WILL RUIN YOU.
