Angry I Hate BoA! Need a New Bank!!

Since when does it take a degree in Finance to understand a simple Checking and Savings account? BoAmerica is literally attempting to steal my money one month at a time! When I call them out on it, I'm given ridiculous excuses yet get my money refunded. I need a new bank...BAD. The details:

I've been with BoAmerica for a few years. Shame on me for not researching the types of accounts I signed up for, I guess. For the last 2 years.. I notice a new fee, a different amount, for a different reason. There are so many I lose track but 6 months ago I was being charged $15 a month, then $6 a month now $12 a month...all from my savings. All different reasons. The excuses I'm given vary from "new banking policies," "federal law," to basically, "you did this wrong...now do this to avoid the fee." I mean...COME ON these people are having me do back flips for access to my own money. No no..not access, for the privilege of keeping all of my money without them getting their grubby little hands on it. I have to make monthly transfers from my checkings into saving to avoid one fee. I have to limit my Savings account transactions to 3 per month to avoid another. Did I mention that they charged me a fee when their website was down and I went into their building to ask a banker for help with my account? Yep! Sure they end up refunding my fee's after many stressful calls and online chats with their representatives, thats besides the point. Each time I talk to them, they make it sound as if the fault is mine for not "knowing" these things. What bothers me is that the fees pop up at random. So..it's okay that I've been bouncing my money from Savings to Checking all year except for these last two months? I've had the same two accounts for years. Why am I being charged fee's then scolded for inquiring about them?

Bottom line; I'm sick of being toyed with at this bank. If I don't monitor my accounts like a hawk, they'd get away with stealing my money. Is it like this at every bank or is it just BoA? Can anyone recommend a better banking institution in southern New England? I'm very close to just stuffing all money under my mattress.

Yeah I thin all banks do this. I had 4 different bank accounts becsuse when I travel some are more prevalent in areas thn others. 5th third is the worst and I've been with them for over 10 years. When I'm out of town I have my mother make deposits into my account they are checks and they always ask her how she wants that back when she writes deposit on it. Clearly they will just give my money away to other people. I just closed the account and have certasin companies that debit monthly. I let them all know but 2 still did it snyways wwell it caused the account to reopen and I was charged 12 dollars each time since they used over draft protection. Fuck I closed accounts before years ago and that never hapenned , they said for 30 days it would do this! Wtf. I think all banks suck!

The new consumer protection laws limiting the ability of US banks to charge high fees to people who actually created extra costs for the banks is a two-edged sword. If the bank's can't recoup these extra costs from the people who create them, they have to recoup these extra costs by 'nickel and dime'ing other bank customers who DON'T create bank costs in excess of the fee limit. And, for better or worse, it's the legal responsibility of the bank customer to read and understand the banks new 'terms of service' which go along with the new consumer protection laws.

Also agreed that credit unions are usually far less 'nitpicky' than commercial banks when it comes to fees.

I left BofA and went to a credit union. It's much less complicated and they aren't trying to screw anyone. You can probably find a community credit union that takes anyone from your town/county area.. They also might take you if you're a customer of say "Geico/progressive/travellers insurance etc" I saw a letter where they co-market with insurance companies for example.

I had a BoA account that I was unhappy with, so I closeed the account. 6 months later, I get a statement in the mail telling me that my account is overdrawn! I call them, and they tell me that "due to an error" my account was reopened and started being charged monthly fees. WTF?? They took off the charges and somehow left me with $2.

When you close an account if anything debits it will cause it to reopen for 30 days. I have 3 different bank accounts ( some for my rentals ans others because I travel all over the country to work and they don't have certain banks in locastions I go. anyways I called all my accounts that debit and gave them a new number but some still debited the account I closed and it kept causing it to reopen so they could charge me 12 each time for over draft protection from savings!

    Two points....

When you go anywhere to open an account ask for a fee schedule. It is a listing of all the fees that bank or credit union charges and why you get that charge. Even online banks have a page that lists fees. If it is more then two pages and confusing as hell? just leave. There are alot of banks and credit unions out there that still keep it simple.
As an ex banker, I saw alot of passive agressive employees who couldnt handle dealing with upset customers. They would make up all kinds of insane excuses for why X happened to a customer. The number one false excuse I saw was the Patriot Act. Most of the time it had nothing to do with any of it. Have them show you on the fee schedule the exact fee you were charged. IF that employee cant ask for a manager who can. So you know exactly what is going on.

If you decide to close an account, especially a newish account, leave it open. Alot of accounts under a year old now have a penalty for closing the account. Shop around for a new financial institution. Open your new account first. Transfer slowly over time your transactions to the new account. Once you have not had any new transactions hit your old account for two months then close it. It is an annoying process but it saves you money and alot of greater head aches.

^ I had my account over 10 years with 5th third and it was my main account that I attomatic debited things from. They talked mr into keeping my savings with them since I have a lot in it ans she did tell me if one of the accounts I had automatic debit with didn't get the info in tine they would debit that account and it would case it to re open. I didn't belive it I thought she was just trying to get me to keep my savings. Funny though years ago I closed accounts and they would close right away but anyway threy did remove the charge and put a note on my account to not let anything else come through. I don't know why they just didn't do that to begin with!

There wasn't anything debited from my account. They said it was purely a computer error.
