Default Bartending, is it a must to be registered on social networks to be hired?

I am thinking about taking a break off dancing. I am currently a student and have a day job but I don't make enough working only at an office. I was thinking about waitressing or bartending a few nights a week so I could still get tips. I don't have any experience in bartending and I don't really have time to take a course... A lot of people tell me that it should be easy for me to be hired and then get a free training since I am good-looking but a lot of the well-known clubs or bars in my area require that their staff use Facebook or social networks to promote events, well the ones where I tried to apply anyway.

Is it like this everywhere? Do all bartenders have to invite tons of people before every shift and post ads on their page almost every day? I closed my Facebook account awhile ago due to personal reasons and I don't have much time for a social life nor do I go out much due to my hectic schedule so it would be hard for me to invite big crowds...

Also, how much do bartenders make on average per shift?

I'm trying to get a bartending job with no exp too

I don't know if its a requirement, but my friends who work at hotel bars and club scenes do post on fb when heading into work urging friends to come visit, and post about any events etc. So I'm guessing it comes with the job if you work at certain places.

The earnings question... Impossible to answer. Depends on your city, the type of bar, type of guests, how much the drinks are how personable you are, how well you connect with guests so they come to your bar just to see you, and your upsell skills.

It can be really good money. Even as a server if you end up in either an expensive place, or a neighborhood place with huge table turnover.

I really want to bartend though. I would even settle for server. But everyone keeps offering me hostess based on my looks and say I'd make a great first impression s guests sees walking in. So yeah it can work against you lol

are you using the hosting experience on your application? that may be what is leading them in that direction - not that I dont think you would make a good impression

Yeah I am... A friend of mine said its a good thing to include though because the place I worked at has intense restaurant training... So putting it on looks impressive and is way better than saying I have no experience at all.

I feel stuck between a rock and hard place! Everyone wants an industry job around here though... They make crazy good money (except hostesses!! Lol) so competition is fierce.

Can you apply for a bartending job at the club where you dance? That's how I got into bartending.

Keep trying! It's great easy money. And blksharpie is right, it all depends on the bar/club. I used to work at a nightclub that held 5,000 people, and I'd make $300 - $500 a night. And I also worked days at a good ole boy club and only made about $75-$100 a day in tips. Good luck, it's really fun!
    I just gotta be me!

Not sure where you are in Canada, but from my experience in Ontario, you'll be hard pressed to find a bartending gig without any experience. Most bars/clubs straight up just do not want to hire people without experience and then have to train them, when there are so many people who already know what they're doing looking for work. You basically have to work your way up from hosting/busing at a bar/club. From what I understand, no bar/club takes the bartending courses seriously or as actual experience either, so at least you're not behind for not having that.

Hopefully you come across somewhere that will take you and train you though. It's definitely worth going around to the bars/clubs in person with your resume so they can see how good looking you are and stressing how fast of a learner you are, but you might have to be open to working your way up to bartending, which certainly won't be as lucrative but will likely give you the option a few months down the line.

    Good luck!
