Default Questions from a newbie interested in modeling! I'm lost, nervous, and overwhelmed!

Hi all, I've been reading alot in this forum as well as different sites and blogs, trying to research the webcam modeling industry. I need an income and I'm very interested in pursing this, although nervous about friends/family finding out!! First off, I've been trying to research the best sites to join.

According to research, I had decided the top 3 were internet modeling, i camz, and live jasmine.

After finding this forum, it seems as though i camz may be a "studio"... and I'm guessing they stream through Streamate? I did the inital application through i camz and they sent me forms to fill out that state Steamate... I then found this forum and the "studio" discussion! Am I correct in that? So I'd be better off applying directly to Streamate then, correct?

My second question, how likely is it for my application photos, "profile", etc to be listed publicly where friends or family of mine may see them?

And third, do ALL good sites report income? I'd rather my income NOT be reported, and I'd rather not have any link to having any kind of empoyment (I don't want to seem employed by any of these sites, and I don't want anything listed on any background checks, etc).

Any info for a newb? I'm nervous, but curious.... and I reeeeally need the income!! Due to medical issues, I don't have the ability to work outside my home anymore, so I really felt excited when I found this opportunity. But I'm extremely nervous for the above reasons as well

Wow - ok two of those are studios and the other is not the best site in most hosts opinion.

I'm heading out the door or I'd type out some more info, but in the meantime until someone has time to explain more, take a look at these two threads. It's a lot of reading but the info in there is super valuable and will get you started right

The consensus on this forum is that livejasmin sucks. Internet modeling is a terrible studio, and I believe icamz is too.

This is a really good thread to read and covers most basic questions and lists good sites
    http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...-For-Cam-Girls
And this thread tells you the names of studios to avoid and how you can sign up for sites directly
    http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...avoid-studios)

Think about how many popup ads for 'horny girls just waiting' you see online, there is always the possibility you will be in one of those ads and someone you know could see. The odds are low, but if you absolutely can not deal with being found out DO NOT CAM. You should also make sure it won't prevent you from working in any fields you want to in the future. You can block your state on most sites, but in my experience it is not very effective. There is always the option of wearing a disguise (wig/makeup) so you have plausible deniability.

All big sites report income, they are legally required too. You could try working indie and not reporting it, but it is risking. Camming is not a good job for under the table money.

This forum has a ton of amazing info, read the stickies and learn how to do searches and you can find pretty much anything you would need to know.

I'll definitely read more on the threads! I did read in them, but kinda of skimmed after the first posts I'm not sure if the threads will tell or not, so if so please disregard me asking, but as far as the income reporting.... if I sign up a couples modeling with my bf (ok, ex bf/booty call), can it be listed under his name? And if so, am I able to still cam alone as well? Or ONLY with him every time?? Also, do we both get paid the same as 2 people working solo would?

I almost passed over your post because most of the answers to your questions will be found in the threads laurie and abberant linked but then I realized were coming into the holiday season and theres going to be a flood of new girls looking to pick up extra cash.

It kind of breaks my heart when I hear that Internet modelling is coming up as a good site when someone does research on the best place to be a webcam model they are a studio and studios are horrible places.

    As for your questions-

How likely is it for you to be discovered? Well lets see. Anything you upload or broadcast on the site becomes property of the site forever. They can use it in advertisements or promos. You may be featured in pop ups or banner ads or you may not. Your friends and family may browse porn sites or tube sites. (everyone likes to think their brother, father, uncle, neighbor, mechanic, priest doesnt watch porn but they do) Theres also the risk of being recorded by the viewers and subsequently posted online in various places by them.

As for reporting income/background checks etc. Like abberant said- all big sites based in the US will report your income and even if the site doesnt, if your a US citizen, you are required to report your income otherwise youre committing tax fraud. If you have concerns about future employment and having a job in the adult industry show up on your background check, there are things you can do to minimize the chances of that happening. Search the forum for 'background check" There is also a thread on camming and taxes, which explains how to file, but essentially you will be 'linked' to the site that is paying you via the 1099.

Personally, I would be very careful about putting the account in your EX boyfriends name, or any boyfriends name for that matter. That means the checks would go to HIM in HIS name, NOT yours. If he decides he's done with you, he can take the money and you will be screwed!

Also, If you have a couples account I believe you can ONLY cam as a couple. You also have the option to create a solo female account in YOUR name and have them add him to the account as being allowed to be on it occasionally. This gives you the option to cam with him, or without him. Many models do it that way.

The amount you are paid is based solely on your per minute and/or gold show rates and so it is irrelevant how many people are on cam, you are paid a percentage of the rate regardless if it's just you or you and your boyfriend. You would receive one check in one of your names (whoever the account owner is) and the person cashing the check would be responsible for giving the other their cut, this is why it is best to have it in your own name to ensure you are always getting your cut no matter if your boyfriend decides to ditch you or the camming idea.

Ok, I noticed that most sites I scanned were offering direct deposit, so I was planning on doing that vs paper checks... but I totally trust that he would never skeet anyways. He's the one who saves my ass financially every time I need it The best he can anyways. I'm not sure he'd be around enough to make couples worthwhile, if i'd be SOL with camming alone when he's gone. I'd need to cam alone, too, to really make a decent income.

I'll def. check out these threads more and hopefully get everything answered that way. Thanks alot for the answers though!

welcome to sw and I'm delighted that you found the forum before you signed up for a studio

In regards to income reporting, I know you didn't ask for feedback about this in particular, but I wanna say something. For real, you need to report your income. Camming is not a cash business. The $$$$ you earn will end up in a bank account and the recipient (whether it be you or your friend) will need to pay taxes on that income because streamate issues 1099's.

You mention having a medical issue. If this is matter of not wanting to lose disability benefits, start camming and earn up until the allowable income threshold while you decide if this job is right for you. You don't have to decide if camming works for you right away, feel out the job for a few weeks or even months to get a sense of what your expected earnings will be, then make a decision if you want to earn more $$$ camming by getting off disability. The same principle applies if your situation is something different, such as being the beneficiary of an income-related school tuition bursary, unemployment benefits, etc. Most programs have a cap on allowable 'outside' earnings, but you can earn within those limits and stay legit. Best case scenario, camming will provide a much higher level of income than whatever your current source provides, but I do think it's wise to approach to test out how camming works for YOU before making a final decision.

As part of your research into camming, you need to learn more about how a new stream of income will affect whatever programs/sources of funds you're currently receiving. If you essentially plan to defraud an organization (the government, a university, what have you) by not declaring your full income you will place yourself at great risk of public embarrassment and heavy financial penalties if your undeclared income is ever discovered by the IRS. Further, asking anyone to participate in a fraud with you by granting him total control over your earnings is...not smart. Don't get yourself into a mess you can't clean up.

here is a thread regarding cam income and disability benefits (if that pertains to your situation) :

good luck with whatever you decide

I know most of your questions are already answered, but about the couples thing. I had my solo account on cams.com (not a recommended site because you only get 29% of what you make, sure there's good traffic but you can charge someone up the --- and not make anything.) and I had to sign up as a studio and just add my SO on there. Now when I log on I just click who's going to be broadcasting. So the checks are made out to me, as a studio. I think the norm is just to have a separate solo account since it can be difficult for guys to cam as long as we can lol.
You already know to avoid studios, but I've had great luck with streammates and mygirlfund.com also extralunchmoney.com or clips4sale.com for videos.
