    Search Who does enemas?

I've only recently started doing enemas. They help right before my period when I get wicked constipated but I'm considering trying them out more often just until I get my digestion stuff sorted.
I started doing Intermittent Fasting and it worked great for me. I was losing weight, Still eating well and feeling better about my cheats because my stomach was shrinking and I was eating smaller portions and feeling full.

However, I got hemorroids really bad. I tried a lot of stuff and what helped with that was witchhazel baby wipes, castor oil or coconut oil slathered back there, and ingesting Rutin and a dose of Leg Vein pills so as to strengthen the veins back there too. I've also noticed that even though I'm eating salads and prunes pooping still isn't coming and I know this is because I'm still eating bread.

Anyway, I took an IF break for a couple weeks to see if it affected my constipation (which is a life long issue but luckily in the past few years it's become less of an issue with smarter choices) but am about to restart.

I'm planning on doing enemas and then slowly tweaking my diet so that hopefully I can do bowel movements without them--you know, shoving thirty grams or so of fiber from whole foods (not pills but actual fruits and veggies) a couple days pretty much does it for me but I haven't done this lately because I've been eating kind of bad during my IF break. Still a lot better compared to the old me and the average American diet but still.

Anyway, tried a soap enema and a water enema to follow and that worked REALLY well. Better than the plain water enema I did this past weekend. I'm probably going to try a salt enema today, something to do with electrolytes.

So anyone use these? I've fasted regular before for cleansing and read a lot about how enemas eliminate some of the pain and discomfort associated with detoxing.

I'm not a doctor but it just seems to me the human body didn't evolve to function in this way... I understand using them once in a while when you really need to but doing it every day or every few days just doesn't sound healthy to me because it's unnatural. I think it would be better to figure out foods and patterns of eating that help you be more balanced. And if you said this has been a life-long issue, maybe there are certain foods or food groups messing you up?

Coffee enemas are wonderful! Do a google search, but the recipe for the Gerson Therapy (cancer therapy... good book, also btw!).

It sounds like we have a lot in common with the constipation issues. I'm actually having some skin tags removed in two weeks.... yep, down there due to hemorrhoids that I've managed to reverse w/diet ..... and enemas when needed. I also do one at least every couple weeks for maintenance and general detoxing.

I'm with you on the juice fasting also. I can't now because I'm nursing, but I've had wonderful results in the past.... increased energy and general overall radiance to summarize.

recently had some issues, I got those suppositories (generic) from Walgreens, they really helped..enermas gave me an extreme reaction.
What juices do you drink? I think grapefruit helped.

I'm not big into juices unless I can dilute them a lot with water. Same thing with iced tea.
I've just started drinking sparkling water because I like the fizzy taste and it's easy to add stuff like
lime juice and mint for a delicious different drink.

I've tried the soap enema, a regular water enema, and an apple cider vinegar one.
Supposedly fleet enemas are really bad for you. The ones that are two to four quarts
are actually good for you because your bowel still has to expand and shrink so it doesn't
get lazy. From what I've read, most people who do daily enemas can regularly poop on their own
after a day or two (assuming healthy diet) after not having an enema, say if they're too busy to have
    one.

I do have to say I feel my hemorroids are doing A LOT better. Like I don't even realize that I still
have two tiny ones anymore. I do think the enemas helped with that--not having to push. Also, looking
at what's come out it's become very apparent I need to chew a lot more. TMI but I cannot be the only one out
there who gobbles a bit too fast.

I've had a colonic before which cost about $90 and helped when I was really stuck after eating a lot of pineapple.
I feel calmer even if I do not have an enema everyday because I don't freak out thinking how long it's been since I've pooped. Years back it wasn't uncommon for me to go maybe twice a week if I was lucky and it would be very difficult. Last spring I was eating a lot and having bowel movements pretty regularly though I'd supplement with black strap molasses or hot salt water to help. Now, I'm tweaking my eating habits so my body is just hanging onto the stuff unfortunately.

Anyway, it's interesting reading online. Supposedly a slew of celebrities past and present do daily enemas, from Mae West to Demi Moore, so I'm not that worried. Two things if anyone is curious: apple cider.vinegar enemas only.need like a spoon of ACV per quart. if you go too gung ho you'll have muscle cramps and actually slough off colon which is why vinegar enemas are an old timer's parasite treatment. Didn't kill you but it sure hurt a lot to take out all the bugs like it does. Second, pay attention to electrolytes and bacteria. I haven't done an "implant" where you do a small enema with, say, yogurt or wheat grass juice so that some stuff is left behind in your colon. Electrolyte-wise, a little bit of baking soda and salt in the solution supposedly offsets the loss of very necessary electrolytes.

I don't think I'd be keen on doing this everyday for the rest of my life but I'm thankful that I have something easier on my system than a vit c flush or an epsom salt flush when I haven't gone in like 4+ days.

as far as foods messing me up, well, we live in an imperfect world and I'd have to give up all breads, most cheeses, and do a few other things that, while yes I'm working towards them, are just hella inconvient right now.

and there's a lot more toxins in the past fifty years than we are biologically equipped to handle. Even the fact that we can live to 80+ years is pretty unnatural compared to the vast majority of human existence. Considering another orifice, dental care or even just brushing and flossing our teeth is equally unnatural but for the most part a good thing, though most mouthwashes actually kill the good bacteria in one's mouth.

I'm curious about the notion that I've seen mentioned on a few websites that it speeds recovery from a cold or other illness. I was just sick which only happens about twice a year but I would be.curious to put that to the test.

I have never done an enema in my life. What do they feel like? Does poo come out? Does it hurt? I can't be the only one who is really curious about what they are like.

hmm. well, the idea is that you're supposed to hold as much water as you comfortably can for maybe fifteen minutes, sometimes more to allow any impacted feces or mucous that's on the walls of your colon to soften and them be expelled. I have to admit that sometimes taking an enema has not been pleasant because when it comes out, it's.felt like diarrhea--not just.in the flow of the shwater (ha ha master cleansers call the stuff that comes out after their flushes shwater or butt pee) but that general ickiness with slight nausea, maybe with a bit of crampiness. I haven't really noticed it the past few times so I'm not sure if maybe I was using too much water, or trying to hold it too long, or that the plain water enemas weren't that good somehow. Or maybe I just had a bunch of poop to get out because I did notice last spring I had some really tiny thin poops like I'd accumulated so much junk that was gripping to the sides that all I could push through was a little almost pencil thin BM.

I did notice some crampiness with the ACV enema but that's because I probably added like half a cup to the enema because I hadn't looked up the ratio and didn't know that one really shouldn't use that much.

Generally what happens is I grease up back there with vaseline and either lay in the tub or on my bathroom floor on a towel, and inset the enema nozzle and then there's a little doohicky that pinches the tubing close or open. So I open the flow and then after a few seconds, close it off, wait a minute or two (typically I'm reading a magazine to pass the time) and then open the hosing and take more liquid. Someimes I hear and feel the gurgling, and I'll massage one part of the abdomen and then another to help the water dissolve any stuff that might be sticking to the colon walls or allow any larger chunks to be loosened up by the water. You know if you like pizza a lot that the bread and the cheese acts like glue and sometimes can block the intestines for a little while causing constipation and gas because other poos gets stuck behind it and starts to ferment or putrify? So sometimes you have these big balls of poop blocking the way.

So sometimes, especially if I haven't had an enema for awhile (and to be honest I've probably only done this maybe a dozen times, it's not something I'm an all knowing master of) I can only take 1/3 of an enema (and I use the $14 one from Walgreens that's a hot water bottle/douche/enema kit). After I've cleaned myself out a few times recently, I can take almost the whole thing because, I assume there's not so much mass taking up space in the colon and also being more relaxed probably has something to do with it.

It is funny though, once I reach that point where I've taken enough water that my body is about to expell (I don't often wait the recommended fifteen minutes) and I feel like a roly poly getting up. I can do a sit up to get up because that would put pressure on the colon and I already really have to go so I have to like roll on my side and get up from there and quickly get to the toilet to squat and then it all comes out.

I think the reason why I'm having less crampiness is initially I tried to take a lot and hold it. So I'd poo, then before I took another part of the enema I'd have to wait and 1-2 more times I'd get that icky diarrhea feeling and more would come out.

Now, I take less water at first, clear the poop in stages as it were and...I don't know, I'm still experimenting honestly.

I did see some flat curvy bowel shaped pieces of poo one time which is not what healthy poop is supposed to look like. This had clearly been there long enough in the same spot that it had taken on the shape of the colon around it--not that I think it had been there overly long...but it did look different than regular shaped poop so I thought that was interesting. In any event, better out than in.

I'll be honest and say that the enema experience is not like a choir of angels singing or anything. I mean, a plastic nozzle is going up your poop chute, then you're adding warmed liquid to expand your colon and work around pices of poop that may have hardened there from being in the colon too long. and expelling it does feel good but there can also be that sick diarrhea feeling (not all the time but I'm not sure what dictates that feeling occuring or not.) Then there's that crazy full feeling of "I am about to shit myself this instant if I don't get to a toilet" alonf with the indignity of rolling to one's feet and waddling to the toilet. There's some people who fetishize enemas (and if you google anything about enemas you will run across niches of different enema groups who are either mild fetishists or hardcore ones sooner rather than later.) I'm not one of them. Especially with the shaoe my Hems were in the last thing I wanted was anything near my anus, but I also knew I needed to poop and had no desire to push even the teensiest and make the hems worse.

They do make me feel better but I don't think I'm crazy about it. I haven't had one for a few days just because I've been busy but it hasn't been a big deal. I'll probably have one today. I've bought some chia drinks for extra fiber but haven't had the chance to drink more than a few sips. I do notice I sleep a bit better after having an enema, and I do have some anxiety when I haven:t pooped for several days. I'm not sure if it's all mental or if it's a biological response to having feces building up and perhaps reabsorbing some of the toxins. But being able to use an enema, even if I don't, makes me less worried about pooping because I know I'll be able to expell the stuff if a natural BM doesn't come along.

As a side note, I have a friend who had the lap band surgery who already had issues with constipation. She only has about a cup or two of food a day so I'm not sure what her BMs are like or how often she has them. I wonder if it's like when I was IFinging more strictly. I'm going to have to ask her. Also, there's a bunch of medical conditions that enemas supoosedly aid against--diverticulitis is one. I don't have that so I haven't paid special attention to those parts of the texts I've run across but maybe one of you has that and you can read up on it for yorself.

Chef Kitty... Yes, it seems like a traumatic thing almost if you've never done one. But, yes, poo comes out... Hopefully lots if you hold the enema a while, as you should in the case of a coffee enema, for example. No, there's no pain.... It's actually quite the opposite--refreshing I'd say. Of course, as with anything you need to do it properly.

I don't know if daily enemas are advisable, except while juice fasting. If you're fasting, you need enemas to rid yourself of toxins since the idea is to basically detox by halting your digestive system. Overall in all my research, daily enemas do no damage if done even a few weeks to a month or more. But, over time, you'll lose the ability to go on your own if you do an enema everyday.

I juice daily for the health benefits... Usually one tall glass of green juice: kale, romaine, watercress, two apples, etc. Someone mentioned toxin exposure.... Yep, only organic vegetable juicing is advised, also for that reason. I try to eat completely organic, but of course that's not totally possible.

I know, I've recently been turned onto kale by a kale salad at one of my favorite restaurants. I've also added it to meatloaf and it didn't scrww up the dish.

Whirlz, did you ise a fleet enema or a bag one? because the fleet enemas aren't good because of the ingredients in it plus it's just a tiny amount. Random factoid: the colon can hold up to six quarts of liquid? Most people, after working up to it of course, can handle 4-5 quarts comfortably.

I also read a few interesting tidbits-- one I'll have to go into my bookmarks and just link but marilyn monroe used them. And Princess Di caused an uproar when it was found that she spent like shy of five grand a year on colonics three times a week. The tabloids nicknamed it the royal flush. However Princess Di said they helped immensely with her food allergies and a few other things. Though, if you're going to get a colonic done, make sure you go to someone reputable and licensed. Seems obvious but still.

Mia: Do you choose a specific coffee aside from dark roast organic? I'm making the coffee for on later (bring water to boil, add coffee, boil for three min to get rid of the aromatic oils, then simmer for fifteen minutes, right)

Supposedly coffee enemas can be used once a day as maintenance if one wants for up to a month so long as one supplements with iron. Also, cancer patients or people with other big illnesses can take up to six coffee enemas a day. I want to read up on it more but it:s related to a Dr. Gerson's research.

Also, do you do the bag or the tank/pail enemas? I want to eventually get the pail type so it's easier to clean the inside of it so I can do oil or yogurt enemas.

Mastercleanse is great! Do it for a day or just one drink of the lemonade/cayenne and it will <ahem> clean you out! Coincidentally, I did it earlier this week after my period ended and things are moving along smoothly. I also like to have an antihistamine to cut the bloat and irritation from allergies down.

Coffee, booze, juice, etc enemas are dangerous. Especially coffee and alcohol. Some people have died doing those enemas. Water is safest.

    From Wikipedia:

    "Coffee Enema, Effects and dangers

Some proponents of alternative medicine have claimed that coffee enemas have an anti-cancer effect by "detoxifying" metabolic products of tumors.[4] There is no medical scientific evidence to support any anti-cancer effect of coffee enemas.[2][5][6]
Coffee enemas can cause numerous side effects, including infections, sepsis (including campylobacter sepsis), severe electrolyte imbalance, colitis, polymicrobial enteric septicemia, proctocolitis, salmonella brain abscess and heart failure.[4][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] If the coffee is inserted too quickly or is too hot, it could cause internal burning[14] or rectal perforation.[15] Long term use of coffee enemas can lead to malabsorption of fat, fat-soluble vitamins, and calcium.[16]
The use of coffee enemas has led to several deaths as a result of severe electrolyte imbalance, hyponatremia, dehydration, pleural and pericardial effusions.[8][16] The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ruled that study participants must be warned of the risk of death from coffee enemas in studies that use them.[17][18]"

ha ha ha^ love that "Tell that bitch to tip" picture.

The coffee is supposed to be diluted I think. That's what I did anyway, plus cooled it all the way and added warm water. Water enemas have been so so. Soap enemas are so far my favorite. I'll try coffee a few more times since I think I did it wrong. I took a special electrolyte drink right after and have had some electrolyte drinks since then.

I did take a break for a couple of days, incorporated avocados in my diet and poped today so I'm not all that worried about not being able to have a BM without an enema. Next weeks my period though so no doubt I'll be using the enemas then.

My skin's looking really good though I haven't been staying on top of my water intake. I've done a few things different that could affect that but the longest thing I've done (for a couple of weeks) has been semi-regular enemas so maybe that's it.

I'm going to keep up with the avocados though and I'm excited to see if there will be any more positive affects on my skin (which wasn't that bad to begin with but still.)

Still want to try a yogurt or wheat grass implant.

Fiendish... I use S.A. Wilsons organic coffee... It's specifically made for enemas. I believe it's a Canadian company. And, yes, I do just as you mentioned... boil 3 mins uncovered, then cover and simmer for 15 more mins. using about 3 tablespoons coffee. I use the following bag/kit: It's funny because it's advertised I think for using prior to anal sex... Ha! I'm not even sure why I ended up buying this one, but it's held up well. I like that it had an open top for easy cleaning. A pail would be best probably as you mentioned, but this had worked for me so far.

As for the risks someone mentioned of death, etc. etc. There's risk with most anything of course. But, most of the problems/injuries that occurred were due to incorrect procedure... too hot would cause obvious issues, coffee really shouldn't be taken high into the colon because then the caffeine goes right into your bloodstream leading to the heart issues you listed, etc. I'm a proponent, but with anything there's always pros and cons. And I believe there definitely need to be precautions with enemas of any kind, and you need to know what you're doing.

I do colon cleanser capsules every weekend and it works wonders, I eat like shit and my stomach is always slender/small. I am afraid of doing enemas - aren't they messy? And I'm afraid to put stuff up my butt. Bread and pasta is bad for you if you want a fast moving digestive system. I only eat pasta once in a blue moon - never really liked it anyways, and I rarely eat bread. I'm more of a rice girl.

I do the "mae west enema" daily- diluted coffee and baking soda. I use 2 quarts. I am a believer in the gerson therapy for cancer prevention. I think it feels good going in, lukewarm. But I'm just weird Some say its a slightly erotic feeling. Anyhoo, the coffee stimulates your liver to excrete bile. I also due epsom salt enemas and castor oil to a strong effect. Sorry if this is all TMI. =/ As far as the debate goes, I would imagine people with heart problems, or using piping hot coffee would be sure to damage.
I just know I eat fruits and veg's, and my stomach feels flat and free of gas/pains, etc.
