Default Question about my day job

I've been reading through this forum and doing searches, but I haven't come across this issue. I apologize if its been asked before. I'm about to start camming, and I have a basic question.

I realize that keeping anonymous is key, and I loved all the advice here. However, in my "real" life, I'm a 33-year-old lawyer. Is my career something I should keep private? If I ever get found out, it won't make a difference - I have no worries about that. But I'm just wondering if it is weird to let on what I do. Should I make up a story? It seems like it could be controversial, but I'm not sure.

I think you should hide all authentic details about your life from customers on camsites. Make up a story.

Thank you for the advice. That's really helpful. I have no desire to let on what state I'm in. I have enough trouble thanks to naive beginnings a few years ago with the BDSM stuff I do locally, and these days I have enough experience in "alternative lifestyles" to feel confident that strangers won't be able to figure out my personal info. But I'm not sure I could convincingly pretend I have a different job, if the question comes up. So it's good to hear I don't absolutely have to hide it.

Also, yeah, I definitely assumed that if I mention my career I will get questions like that. Honestly, it's the only reason I haven't started yet - I want to make sure I have a response before it comes up. But, I didn't know people would actually pay to hear my answer, whatever it ends up being.

I don't have a regular job anymore but I do say on my profile that I am professionally qualified. There are guys who like an intelligent and educated lady, plus those that like to hear about how I used to wear tight fitting suits with stockings on underneath...you can make it work for you. If asked, I can also honestly say that I'm doing what I do now because I wanted to work part time and from home. I have said the areas I've worked in but they don't normally ask.

Tell them you live with your bf, and you cam because you need to fill an insatiable sexual need. They eat that up and stop caring what your "real" job is..they just want to talk about how you sneak to spend time with them behind your bfs back.

I wouldnt do this on a cam site, but when I was doing a YIM / Skype show, and playing off that whole story..if the guy was getting annoying, or I was tired, or I just didnt feel like it anymore.. I would look up all panicky and whisper OMG I have to go!! and shut my cam down. Would get emails from them asking me if my bf came home, if Id been caught, if "our secret" was out, hoping to see me again, blah blah blaaah. I couldnt pull that too often, but it sure cam in handy.

    But I digress...
I wasnt living with a bf, and I dont have insatiable sexual needs that camming fills
I just said stuff to distract them from whatever personal questions they had for me.
The less these guys know about your personal life the better.
Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink!

I don't know what did you mean by that, if you simply don't care of what others think, or it won't affect you career. But where I live the Bar Association kicks you out if you are "unworthy" and "discredit" the name of this honored profession. Being a camgirl is pretty much enaugh for this, and "advertising" your real profession makes it even worse lol.. One who is not in the Bar Association basically cannot operate as a lawyer here. I think being a camgirl in the past and being a lawyer after it doesn't matter, but being both in the same time is a no-go, at least here.

myself, I don't have any children in my home and do for a lot of reasons I am semi retired from working in general. I do this as kind of a paid hobby and to pay for the extras that we want. so I have little to no consequence if people know about me.
for me, the biggest reason for staying under cover is that I just don't want to go there with family in general. Most would not tell me it's bad, but would worry about my safety, reputation, things like that.
heck my FIL was telling me how he and his wife went to a swingers party and chickened out, so what could he really say?

I am married and though my husband is generally ok with it all, he doesn't need to hear details and doesn't want to. he knows that overall I keep it more 'tame' compared to what some other models do, he sees my outfits and helps me pick out my jewelry, but other than what I ask his opinion on,he considers my work to be my business.

he's the only one that knows about it, other than certain store workers that sell me things that I use, and that sort of thing. If people ask what I do, I tell them that I'm mostly a housewife that is part time self employed. if they ask what in particular, I tell them about the jewelry I sell and doll clothes.

Technically I'm not telling any lies. I figure the less lies you tell, the better off you are so things don't sound fishy.

a while back I got scolded by a relative for buying a Doll that was obviously to expensive for someone that didn't have a job! I just kind of raised my eyebrows at my hubby and he told her to drop it! Just do what you need to in order to deal with those that worry you may be living outside your means and all that.
in the end, it's your life and your business. good luck!

I don't think I'd have any consequences here in my state. The character and fitness investigation is concerned with making sure we won't steal from clients. If I were to be arrested for escorting (which I learned I don't enjoy, anyway) I'd have problems, because they do take a look at lawyers who are arrested, but camming is not a problem.

I meant, really, that I wouldn't be embarrassed if I was discovered, as my current lifestyle is different and accessible enough, through a few websites, already. I did select to try to hide my state when I registered, as I would prefer not to be found by clients or colleagues. But if I am, it won't be a professional or personal crisis.

That's cool then, here they get butt-hurt so much easier, like there was a lawyer once who went into this reality show, and then got a nice disciplinary action out of it with "investigation" and everything. She was not kicked out, mostly because she "suspended her function as a lawyer" (sorry I have no idea how you express it, but I hope you understand) before she moved in but it was just a reality show with some cursing and nose picking ffs.

Wherever you live, I'm glad I don't live there! I know a few lawyers who lost their licenses. Four, actually. But they all stole from clients. I don't think I have heard of anything else being a cause for someone to resign or be disbarred. I'm sure it happens, and I wouldn't do anything to risk it, but I guess this is a liberal state. Anyway, that's a pity for the lawyer in the reality show. I'm surprised that story didn't show up on the blogs I read.
