I don't remember offhand where I saw it, but found a thread awhile back that suggested, in response to customers who ask for OTC, giving a huge quote that would not likely be met. Definitely separates the wheat from the chaff, as one poster put it. Normally when I use this line it's something in the $1500 range, upfront of course, to even consider their offer, & as intended, that tends to shut them down pretty quick.
I had a customer last wk tho, who when I laid down my $1500 quote, he got this thoughtful look & said smtg like 'Well I've got another $500 in the car .. ' & was mumbling thru the rest of the dance like he was seriously chewing this over & working out how to get the money together.
This wasn't even one of those customers I get every so often that makes me think 'Another place, another time, maybe' he was old enough to be my father ffs. He was talking dirty to me before dropping the OTC suggestion & frankly the more he talked, the queasier I was getting. I've always thrown out that arbitrary $ amt w/ the belief that I'm not likely to find a customer who will actually match it. Could be he was just trying to mind-fuck me but it had me thinking 'Oh shit is he actually taking me seriously'
Nothing came of it, he got a couple more dances w/ me & left. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this, had a customer actually bite, & how you handled it.

He made it up to me the following week and brought me almost half of the original offer to work(sober, boo). It wasn't a bad amount(still generous) but it wasn't the HUGE amount I was expecting. Still, couldn't complain. Great way to start a shift.
