Default Thinning hair...what can I do...?

I used to have great hair years ago, plenty volume, etc but now my hair is flat, thin and in general a huge pain in my ass. I suspect this was caused by bleaching/dyeing my hair and using an iron on my hair for years. Are there any products out there that can help me get some volume back some? I'm just really hating my hair right now. I just want it to look great before I go audition..Any ideas ladies? Thanks...

Besides exercise and eating a vitamin and nutrient rich diet, look into Ayurvedic hair care. Specifically Amla and Shikakai and scalp oiling with coconut oil.

I heard the John Frieda volumizing products are good, also Aveda, & they have a brand new additional volumiizing product line. There was an ad, if you go to your area Aveda salon, they give you 3 mini products, free you have to mention a code. Check out the beauty magazines

scalp massages with certain oils would help. I want to say peppermint or tea tree oil and coconut oil but you'd have to check. Also, oil pulling has a few testimonials for affecting hair growth when it's thinned. I'd also look at Walmart hair pills, or GNC's NourisHair, or similar (biotin and several other supplements.)

I'm not sure how you could determine if it's a fungal issue or not as some people with thinning hair have this issue and it's not immediately apparent except for the thinning hair. I remember one thread on here a long time ago talking about...minoxidal? the anti-fungal vagina treatment being put on the hair and helping a lot? I believe tea tree oil would also work so that goes back to what I initially said.

Start taking Biotin. It will grow your hair like crazy and make it stronger and healthier too.

Rogaine. Seriously. Or any other product with minoxil---there's some salon brands (can't remember the name--think it begins with a "K") that are a lot more luxurious and don't make you feel like a fat bald man in sweat pants when you pick up the bottle.

The only problem is that the effects are only temporary--once you stop using the treatment, it will stop working and your hair will go back to how it was before.

My bff is a stylist. She told me to use the mens' stuff cuz it's stronger but on the box is specifically says that women should only use the one labeled for women. I chickened out and just got the weaker stuff made for women. But it definitely works.

first off.....get that bloodwork done! for if this is caused by a medical issue...thyroid, hormones....you can do all those things listed and nothing will happen for it is a medical issue. after ruling that out 10k mcg of biotin and a clean diet no crap food.

I've always had thin, greasy hair and recently I've started noticing an almost bald patch right at the top of my head. I also noticed a build up/ scab in the area. Turns out its a horomone imbalance, I think it's called HGC, something about turning testoterone into androgen and the build up of chemical in the hair follical causing blockages until it finally kills the hair at the root. I have really fucked up horomones due to my PMDD and wouldn't be surprised if this was the reason for me. I was recommended three things: Zinc shampoos (Head and Shoulders) Tar based shampoos ( Neutrogena T/Gel) and pure virgin olive oil on the scalp, massaged in for a half hour, with a warm towel around it over night a few times a week. Olive oil did sooth my scalp and the scab thing is gone but I haven't noticed any hair regrowth yet.

As for something to give you hair volume, as much as I hate this product cause it makes my hair so gross ( I hate product in my hair, its so soft naturally) but http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/prod...Impprod3120541 works pretty well. I put it on my roots when I attach my clip in's and it adds a lot of volume that holds. Hope that helps!

I second the peppermint oil. I've been doing a treatment once a week for a month and can see a difference.

You could be iron deficient, that can cause thinning hair. Maybe go to your dr just to get your iron levels tested. Try massing rosemary oil on your scalp because it feeds the hair follicles. Also taking MSM makes your hair grow and thickens it. They have MSM in both pill form and powder and the power is more effective but taste horrible. It's better when you mix it is juice. My hair was breaking and thinning horribly because I have diabetes and it wrecks havoc on your hair. I hated even combing my hair because so much would come out. The MSM has helped me a lot.

Nioxin brand (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) found in salons or beauty supplies. I usually recomended this to my hair clients. Stimulates hair growth & not too expensive

I think that is just a product of genetics & aging, but I would agree with the Ayurveda comment (or chinese medicine), and not eating inflammatory foods. It could just be stress. Or a food allergy.

I am so happy that someone posted this , my hair isn't super thin but I notice a huge chance from how thick it use to be , my hair starting thinning after I lost a big amount of weight so guessing it's a normal body change , far as biotin there is 50 percent daily value of it in my one a day gummy vitamin's and gonna use the redken anti snap and try some of the biotin scalp cream as well , my diet is fairly well too , I never skip meals and I get alot of vitamin's , with all that in my routine do you think that should thicken it back up?

Just a warning with products like nioxin and rogaine, once you STOP using these products your hair can revert.

I swear by Viviscal. Makes my hair grow quicker and thicker. Even got my boyfriend to start taking it for his thinning hair and he's seeing improvement after only two weeks. The only downside is it works on ALL you hair - meaning, if you wax or pluck, get ready to start doing it more often.

glad to hear he has had success with it =) The main thing with mine is it just gets flat/limp pretty easily , may end up using the scalp creme to add some volume back to it , far as my hair length it is a good ways past my boobs so it grows fast just want the full bouncy hair back lol

Coconut oil. Two years ago I had a longish boy short hair. Went got some cheap extensions the lady did a truly horrid job. I ended up with bald patches and loosing a lot of hair. for a few months I used coconut oil every night or every other. and in weekends I massaged canesten (thrush cream) on the bald patches. A crazy tip from a friend. Turned out it worked like a charm. It's two years now and my hair is back to it's former glory, almost past my breast. It grew for the most part an inch etra for every normal hair growth inch. The coconut oil makes it thicker, soft and shinier and very healthy. Helps a lot with split ends. And probably with growth too. I swear by this stuff. It works wonders on skin, i also use it before make-up witch gives me a bit of a glow (though my way of dolling myself prob very different to most.) and helps the powder to sit. a tea spoon a week for the digestive system. Also my sister had bad bloating, and her belly used to blow out cause of it... a tea spoon of this sorted it right out. Also she used it on my little nice when her baby hairs where all all over the place. With two months it all evened out and her hair became thick as thick. or seemed so. She did use this as much as i did. Every night if possible or evry other night for as long as possible.

Awesome glad to hear it was a success!I have great news , it turned out I think I was using cheap products and that just made it limp , bought some of the Redken anti snap and put that on after I conditioned it and done my normal styling and it's back to it's normal thickness , I was wondering what was up at first cause i'm thinking I eat alot of fruits and veggies and have a fairly good diet so it shouldn't be thinning lol but luckily just gotta stop using that cheap crap lol , I still may try the coconut oil sometime though! Thanks for being helpful
