Bring a salad or a wrap with you. Don't eat anything heavy or greasy. Or maybe drink less?

I agree with mediocrity. And if you are going to drink, for every drink, drink a full glass of water, preferably 16 oz's. That way you are staying hydrated as well.

My first bit of advice: don't be drunk at work.
As for food, eat your main meal just before you leave for the club and buy a sandwich or salad to munch on halfway through your shift.
i bring almonds and kashi granola bars with me to work plus tons of water bottles.

anything that you eat is going to slow how fast your body absorbs the alcohol IF you put food in your stomach when the alcohol is also in your stomach. Once it's out of your stomach, it's not going to do much so I would follow the whole veggies angle unless you want to bring fruit for when you have a sugar crash (alcohol affectig the body's sugar levels. I've heard but haven't fact checked that a lot of alcoholics are undiagnosed hypoglycemics so that's interesting.) As a side note, if you drink a lot, I think it puts your pancreas possibly in danger because it responds to the sugar in the system with insulin. Eventually, you do that enough and the body's ability to balance sugar is compromised which is how you get a bunch of type two diabetics--haven't read anything about alcoholics since most americans eat crappy sugar laden stuff, but I am curious if alcoholics have the same issue with insulin production.
As a side note, if hangovers are an issue for you, take some activated charcoal at the beginning of the night, or have some burned toast to help sop up the impurities in the alcohol. Also not fact checked but seen more is that it:s not the alcohol that causes hangovers, it's the other chemicals/additives in alcohol that's so harsh on your system.

I'd go with a protein bar, or some form of slow release carb to help keep me going.
A doctor friend once told me to eat protein and a little fat before you drink, and drink a glass of water with every glass of alcohol. When I danced I would eat a piece of fish or tofu with salad or steamed vegetables, and then kept a bag of soy nuts in my locker to snack on if I ended up drinking more than I planned on. I also brought a huge bottle of water every night to keep in my locker because men can be really cheap in strange ways. They may offer you a drink of whatever you want, but when you order water they change their mind. Anyway, as long as you keep the protein and water in your stomach before or during the drinking you should be better off than you would be without it.

I have dodgy blood sugar and even if I don't drink, if it dips I feel so so sick!I take rice cakes to work or low-fat crisps (chips).I take pop or energy drink with me and hide it (we're not allowed at the main club I work in).

I usually drink a protein shake before work, one with casein so the protein is slower release for a longer period of time.
I used to bring fruit but I've lately been eating a sweet potato like an apple and that's been better for keeping the energy up.
If it's a long shift, I'll have some greek yogurt with a scoop of protein powder in it too.

It's probably the alcohol (or the alcohol wearing off) that is making you feel sleepy (this happens to some ppl after a few or when they are comming down). Having a coffee (with milk or soy) will make you feel full and wake you up a little. Otherwise, having an energy drink (red bull, as gross as it is lol) with a snack might help. I often bring fruit salad or berries, fruit could be a good choice as the natural sugar fix might keep you going.

There is nothing you can eat that will combat the effects of alcohol. I suspect you are getting sleeping from the booze, not the food you eat after drinking.
Really, drinking at work causes so many problems I highly recommend not doing it if at all possible.

a small amount of nuts worked for me, but they are high in fat so they don't provide the instant energy that carbs and sometimes protein do. but they get rid of the hungry sensation without making you crash.
I also like baby food. it sounds silly, but baby food is just a small serving of pureed veggies or fruits, so you are getting a lot of nutrients without having to worry if your food will spoil. I used to try to take fresh fruits and veggies to work but fruits go bad quickly and a lot of times my tupperware would pop open and they would leak everywhere. not to mention room temperature produce is usually gross.
another thing I like is making a protein shake. just put some protein powder in a water bottle and some milk or water or whatever you like and you've got yourself a filling meal.

I like the baby food idea, that nvr occurred to me!
My aunt swears by a large serving of olive oil before you go out drinking to slow the absorption of the alcohol. I'd try that & a protein-heavy snack before you start drinking, also a large bottle of water or also juice to help balance the sugar craziness. Keep smtg small & snackable in your locker to pick at throughout the nite as well, crackers to settle an upset stomach or just sm granola bars to keep your stomach from completely emptying.
Cutting back on drinking may also be helpful.
