    Default Ectopic Pregnancy?

I found out last week that I'm pregnant. I'm about 5 weeks along. Last week I had a gut feeling something was wrong when I started spotting on 11/8. I have a 4 year old and I've been pregnant a few times, so I know that usually, this is normal. In all my other pregnancies, I felt either exhausted or sick, usually both. Other than the occasional cramping and contractions, I do not feel pregnant at all. No sickness, no fatigue (except for today) and no migraines. I have a lot of risk factors and symptoms of ectopic pregnancy.

I didn't think much of my spotting until I started experiencing moderate (not severe) cramping, pelvic pain (sharp stabbing pains in my vag, uncomfortable but not severe), and lower back pain. I also felt some contractions. The next day, I experienced more mild lower abdominal and lower back pain. The cramps and lower back pain continued, and I started having some pain in my shoulder, which is what got me thinking that maybe my pregnancy is ectopic. Over the past few days, the pain in my abdomen has been more focalized near my left ovary. I've had spotting the last two mornings. It's subsided by mid-morning, though. Last night, I experienced contractions in my uterus and what felt like my left ovary, which was totally bizarre. I woke up this morning with a fever of 101.4 and I've been fatigued all day.

I contacted the OB/GYN at my clinic last Thursday when I had spotting. They had me come in on Friday morning to check my HCG levels. They are about 3,000, which puts me at about 5 weeks pregnant. I'm going back tomorrow to recheck my HCG levels. If it hasn't doubled, something is obviously wrong.

Has anyone else had an ectopic pregnancy? If so, did you experience any of the symptoms I have? Did you recover quickly?

Thanks ladies, I'm kind of worried here.

I don't know... but I thought ectopic pregnancies needed to be operated on ASAP because it could kill you? Hopefully your appointment is first thing in the morning. If not I'd should go to the ER.

I just had my blood drawn. They don't always need to operate. It depends on where the pregnancy is located and whether or not the fallopian tube/ovary ruptured. I'm hoping I don't need to have surgery.

I'm really sad to hear that. No one should have to experience that. I hope that if this is a similar situation for me, they catch it before it goes too far. I'm still waiting to hear my test results. Fingers crossed.

It appears that it's a normal pregnancy, as my hormones have tripled. That's good.. I'm still really worried about the other symptoms, though. I'm going to have an ultrasound in a week or so. Thanks to everyone that responded.

She needs to get you an ultrasound right away, not a week. If you wait to have an ultrasound done, then if it is ectopic more damage is happening, you'll probably have to have a fallopian tube removed, so youll be half as fertile. Also, you could have internal bleeding and die from it. If an ultra sound is done, they can see if there is pregnancy in the uterus. If there is no sign of anything in the uterus, but you are testing positive for the pregancy test, it means you have an ectopic pregnancy. If you hadn't had an ultrasound yet i'd get myself to the ER ASAP or a planned parenthood (usually you can get appointments right away) and get an ultrasound done. Alot of doctors have bad judgment and you need to be your own advocate. I have plenty of horror stories.
