Default Starting to see crack in ceiling--from pole? help!

Ok so I have had my new pole, an xpole titanium gold installed in my living room for 3 weeks. We took it down and put it back up in the same place because one of my roomates had family come visit for a day last week. I noticed when we reinstalled the pole there was some creaking when I started dancing on it. It went away though. so I thought nothing of it. Now, a few days later, I see a crack in my ceiling, about 8" away from the edge of the ceiling dome...it is not a full-fledged crack YET, but there is definitely a visible ridge in the ceiling. I freaked out as soon as I saw it and loosened the pole thinking it must be from over-tightening ( thinking aha, that would have been why it was creaking when it was reinstalled, because it was too tight). This crack was not there the first two weeks the pole was up...which leads me to think it is simply a matter of over-tightening, but the worrywart in me is worried it could be a more serious problem like the pole not being installed properly under a ceiling joist?

I was initially sure that it was, as I used a stud finder, and initially a reason for me ugrading to the xpole from my old lil minx pole (other than the fact that x poles, are, you know, better :p), was because I was having a hard time installing the lil minx in that room, I couldn't drill into the ceiling "stud". I figured it was because the ceiling studs are metal, and the fact that I couldn't even drill into the spot where the pole is installed made me feel pretty confident it was in a secure spot. Other information that is relevant is the wierd construction of my appartment building. The building dates to the 1890s, but when they re-did the wiring in the 90s, instead of cutting into the plaster walls and ceilings they simply ran the wires in metal tubes that run along the walls. To hide the unsightlyness of all the wires they added a false ceiling (drywall) 4" below the original ceiling, which is held up (according to my landlord) with steel studs. Now, the pole is also located near a light...could it not be that the stud finder picked up on a metal electrical box for the light, or something else other than a ceiling stud?

I know this kind of building construction probably isnt that common, but any help in finding out exactly is wrong would be much appreciated!

If it's a false ceiling then that right there is the problem. I just got an xpole a couple weeks ago and it says that the pole cannot be installed with a false ceiling. Did you find botn ends of the stud using the stud finder so that you knew it was in the center of the beam? This is all I can think of...hope it helps

^when i say false ceiling, I don't mean the kind that word usually means...I say false because it is not the original ceiling. It still has ceiling studs behind the drywall, essentially there are two ceilings: the original and the second, which is below it. The new ceiling looks and feels like a regular one, I would never have known if a neighbour didn't tell me when he visited my place (noting the abscence of wires and plaster molding along the ceiling like he has in his unit).

I did not look for both ends of the stud! I thought you just marked where the magnet moved...so maybe my pole is on one side of the stud? Thanks! Will double check that!

My un-expert opinion says it's probably too tight. They get that weird creak when they can't spin properly, and if there's too much pressure on the ceiling, it's going to cause cracks.

I'm also not an expert, but I've heard of this happening before, and every time it was because it was not in a joist or stud.

PS I think it's cool that you live in a really old building. I love historical places.
