Default Houston and its Dancer Witch Hunt

I've been working here in the booty hole of stripperdom for two years, and it seems that the city can't keep one set of rules for us for more than a few months at a time.
This thread is here to post the actual laws, raids (NO NAMES PLZ), news, and political/legal battles going on right now. I don't think many of you here understand quite how dynamic and ridiculous the City of Houston's policies are. I also hope that we who currently work here in Houston can help newbies and travelers so as to prevent them from having serious issues.
I posted these on another thread-- they are helpful in explaining licenses, SOB requirements, etc. I'll post more stuff as I run across it. There are TONS of news stories about this rather often.

    Police Scandal Brushed Off
    http://www.kvue.com/news/state/Fight...176588971.html
As far how much is being spent on vice in the clubs, court fees, etc...
Vice is where much of Investigative Operations spends its budget... estimated at $131 ,691 ,252 this year. Compare this to Field Operations' expected budget... $261,693,607 (this is the money used to pay for going to calls, handling disputes, and what is generally accepted as "police work"). The city will not disclose how much of this 131 million is going to raid clubs, but I'd assume it has to be a significant portion considering the story above. A news write-up on the US Supreme Court ruling on enacting a the only zoning law of any kind in the city to put clubs out business:
    http://offthekuff.com/wp/?p=2775
The amount for city litigation on this: 1.2 million buckaroos!!!

The new law requiring even bikini clubs to pay a city fee of $5 at the door covered here:
    http://offthekuff.com/wp/?p=46022
The clubs here are planning to sue over this for various reasons. With a door fee also demanded by the state, this could put dayshifts all over the city in jeopardy. The fees by the state and city total $10 before the club makes any money. No more free covers inside city limits!!!!

I'll post more tomorrow. I need to take a nap

Apparently, lawyers involved in the Treasure's case are under gag order: http://www.isiahfactor.com/2012/09/0...he-courthouse/

Bunny, are you already licensed? I don't know how long I want to do this, so I'm hesitant to get a license for it in the event of future repercussions. This is all such bullshit. I'm a clean dancer, but I've been too afraid to go into clubs since they began raids again. Cops don't give a shit if they're arresting you for blowing a guy or crossing the three-foot barrier. You get rounded up and publicized as though you were a prostitute all the same. The papers/online publications are careful and just say "SOB violation," but the average person doesn't know that can mean anything under the fucking sun in Houston.

Yeah...I've never wanted to work in Houston because one is always walking a fine line between all the dogs wanting sexual extras (and actually getting them!) and the police raids. Always seemed too dangerous. I cannot believe you have to pay a license to work in such a hostile environment.

I'm thinking of getting one. Otherwise, I'll just start camming. I actually talked to management last night-- we have particular policies in order to find cops and kick them out, lol.
As a polisci grad, my bro thinks I should run for city council at large in an off-election year (i.e. 2014). I'm seriously considering it... especially if I'll be working on a Masters/PhD at the time. I'm extremely pragmatic and practical, so all the social conservative and old school feminists on the council will hate me lol

^A club down south of the city has a way of letting girls know when police come in, but they aren't kicked out or anything. It's more suited for girls who appeal to the blue-collar crowd though, which isn't my niche. I wanted to go to St. James, but I keep hearing/reading rumors that they're next on HPD's hit list. There's a remodeled club down by Kemah now too that I thought might have less heat than clubs inside the loop, but their site features some of the employees on a bed kissing each other and pulling at their lingerie. So, I'm not sure what that suggests about the actual club.

I was actually thinking about politics earlier, but I'm way too much of an asshole to make it. You'd have my vote though!

Until recently, we were not in HPD's official territory, but I think we just got annexed.
Are you talking about Crazy Horse? I heard it was pretty good there from girls I work with, but they still come into my club... so I guess my club is better for business.
Right now, being anywhere in the city as a dancer makes you a target due to all the sex trafficking in the city. Even though most of this sex trafficking is going on OUTSIDE of the flagship clubs here, the city is under national pressure to do something to fix the problem, and going after big clubs is a great way to make it LOOK like they're fixing things. Unfortunately for us, it's easier to go after strippers than it is to go after pimps, traffickers, and johns.
You don't see females in vice trying to infiltrate pimps, even though state law makes it so that catching pimps would be easier from the female end (you have to catch money going from prostitute to pimp to charge someone with pimping). The city is playing on the exaggerated religious attitudes of all the zealots here instead of fixing a very dangerous problem.
If anything, all the laws to limit strip clubs have made things riskier. :/
Maybe you could be on my election support team! lol

Oh, are you at SJ? Or did you mean another club that might be annexed? And yes, I was talking about Crazy Horse. I'm resigned to keeping my head down till February since I'm probably getting a BA in January and pre-Christmas money sucked last year anyway, but if all of this doesn't die down somewhat by then, I may try CH after all.

I think my biggest problem with politics is, like you say, the goal is often to just look like you're doing something productive, rather than actually getting shit done. Regardless, I can write for you! We could team up with Houston's "Angry Stripper" blogger and debate the hell out the so-called feminists who supported this shit.

I'm at St James. Sarah works at St James occasionally... it's her homebase here. She's VERY shy IMO. Either that, or my ostentatiousness has her turned off enough to barely talk to me lol
The writing will be of no issue to me. I think I'll just need the right kind of propagandists to make sure that we all at least can out the city for vice corruption in illegal payouts to prevent raids AND the issues with pimps getting out of hand. I'd rather get elected and make a big stink out of every spending issue UNTIL they actually handled the problems with sex trafficking.
It is weird when femNazis and conservative Christians get together to do anything! It has to be a sign of the end lol

I enjoy her blog, but I've never met her. I'm extremely unsocial, especially around people I don't know well, so you'd probably think I hate you too, ha. I may be moving to Dallas or Florida within the next two years, but if I'm still within Houston, you'll have my support.

If you get any news on whether the St. James area has officially been annexed, I'd appreciate it!

Edit: I just remembered--I'm not sure what your religious affiliation is, if any, but isn't there a law in Texas about how Atheists can't hold office? I'm not religious or a believer in the slightest, nor is my SO, but I always joke with him that since he was forcibly confirmed as a Catholic when he was younger, he ought to go undercover and run.

I do not dance in Houston or anywhere in Texas -but i would like to say thank you on behalf of dancers in general because this is such a insightful & thoughtful post for the dancers on this site in general.

There's always so many questions about dancing in Houston, and it seems that most of the answers are "I think this is the rule," "I heard that this happened..." The communication in the city as to the rules is mostly hearsay; it doesn't help that most regulations are TEMPORARY interpretations of law by vice. When I got hired at the Men's Club here, they actually had a copy of the citation given to them by vice in a raid in which a diagram was drawn showing what parts of the breast and buttock must be covered. Until they did that, there were so many variations on what was legal that it was ridiculous. Every club was different, and there still is some variation among clubs. :/ I hope that this thread helps ladies here, ladies thinking about dancing here, and ladies concerned about our rights nationally.
I was raised Assembly of God and Baptist and am spiritually Christian. I took enough theology classes to school any of the fake religious sorts on their Bible quotes lol
Texas is freakishly misogynist and judgmental, and Houston is no exception. As a libertarian, I cannot stand the hypocrisy here.

As I had kind of thought, St James didn't get annexed into the city... Harris County developed a similar code for SOB rules. Someone was nice enough to send me the link-- I couldn't find any info on why certain parts of town had to comply.
    http://www.harriscountytx.gov/cmpdoc...09,%202012.pdf
Pages 9, 11, and 12 have a huge list of info that you have to give the Sheriff's Office. I think it's fairly intrusive...
