Default 2 possible reasons you are not making money

I have been dancing for quite some time and while doing so got to know quite a few other strippers and developed friendship relationship with them. While some are extremely successful, others just cannot exceed $400-450 range. Here's my observation on what they do wrong:
    1) Subconsciously looking for a boyfriend/partner/sugar daddy. Some girls, as I noticed, come to the club and just hang out for an hour or so with one guy just to get one or two $20 dance at the end of his visit. Then, I see them moving on to another guy, drinking and laughing with them and having a good time, or just sitting on his lap, starring at the universe. LOL. Then, at the end of the night, they are complaining how this a**hole did not give them money and that did not buy anything. But she kept sitting with them because the rest are just loosers, there are not too many customers in the club or they just want to seem busy. In my practice sitting for hours with someone who isn't spending will not earn you money. If he's not buying, move on. Who cares if he's cute or keeps promising a dance or buys you food and drinks. Stripping is hard enough to be working for food only.
2)Not liking stripping. If you don't like to dance/get naked/people staring at you or simply hate men, you should get out of this business for you own sake. Doing something you hate or don't enjoy will only destroy your mood and self-esteem. But you heard that strippers make a lot, in fact you see some of them doing it every time you work. True, but if you have been in business for a while and still don't make as much as others, and, especially if you hate it, quit. And do not feel too bad about quitting. At the end of the day, stripping is not the most prestigious job one can have. It is worth the money, but if there is no money, it is not worth anything.

I agree with most of it but I don't agree that everyone should like dancing. lots of people hate their jobs and if a girl is "only" making $400 she can still make 6 figures if she works full time. especially if she has a family to take care of or other responsibilities, some girls have no choice but to dance and I think that's fine.

Great post, but I think by mentioning the only 400-500 thing it sort of implies that people who make only this aren't making money?
I will be honest..this is average night for me, and I think many, many others.
I know many girls who make a lot less.

People should decide for themselves what a good/bad night is IMO and then (And only then) should they decided to take action to make more $$ or quit.

Man i'd be happy to make 400-500 a night. You also have to take some external factors into play here...like the club you work at, number of girls vs. customers etc. I make about 300 a night and that's about average. There are girls that make more and there are girls that make nothing. I have my 500 nights but that's when everyone is usually doing ok. We've been hurting recently. Some clubs just have less earning potential and it doesn't matter how hard you hustle or if you do or dont like dancing. My club it'll be like just a couple girls will exceed 400 while the rest of us average at about 250-350 and then like half making barely anything. I think those are the ones you meant to target in this post. I work my ass off for the money I make. Sorry I don't work in a big ciy.

around 500 per shift is what i generally make, i do not ask the other girls what they make so now I'm wondering if I'm a shitty stripper?? i think the things i keep doing wrong is, not smiling enough, looking bored, being insecure about my body, and letting ppl waste my time like you pointed out. there are nights when i make upwards of 800 but those are rare.i try not to be greedy and I'm grateful for the money that i do earn because before stripping i was making 400 a week working 7 days..idk what do good strippers generally make in your area?

Nightly averages are different in every city. While I can see making 400-500 as pathetic in a city like Dallas, it's amazingly good about 156 miles down south in Killeen.

Yeh and like, $400/night is great if you live in an area where $400 is a whole month's rent for a nice apartment Anyhow, yeh #1 is a good point, but I also might have to disagree with point #2, as far as "liking stripping," because I kinda think most paid labor is pretty soul-crushing in our culture (making something I liked to do my "job/career" has always sucked the joy out of it for me, at least in that context). But I do like this: "do not feel too bad about quitting. At the end of the day, stripping is not the most prestigious job one can have. It is worth the money, but if there is no money, it is not worth anything."

I am sorry if I offended anyone with my "400-450" range. Of course, the type of club and its geographical location come into play when it comes to earnings. When posting this, I was just going off my club and general earnings girls have on average night, which is $650+. Please don't mind me. What I was trying to say, is that if you don't make what you think you can/should be making, then those MIGHT be the reasons. But then again, I am not Jesus, I don't know you and what your reasons are. That was just an advice.

It does depend on the club I agree, maybe would have been better to say 'Don't beat below average figures' or something! But, I agree with the points made in the post!

I tend to feel okay if I'm above the middle earners, and feel great if I'm top or among the top 2/3/4 depending on who's working.
My usual club though-I can make 400 one night and the next night make 150 (I'm talking GBP/sterling not dollars lol) but overall, I do good-and if I hit 250 on average that's great for me-I don't have a lot of extravagances & my rent per month is only 200.

Specific $$$ amounts aside, those certainly are two big reasons that dancers don't make money.

I'd say the #1 reason is simply not asking for it though. I don't mean literally asking for a wad of cash, but some dancers feel bad hustling, wait for the customer to ask for a dancer/VIP, or whatever other tactic they have to avoid simply selling the product (ie. their company) they're there to sell.

I work with one girl who pulls in the low-end of what I'd consider the average dancer's earnings in my club. She told me that she always waits for the customer to ask for dances, and she'll sit around as long as it takes (well, unless he decides it's time to go home after getting her free company for an hour or so!). Her earnings would increase significantly if she didn't waste so much time waiting around for the customer to decide it's time for dances and just took control of the situation. Many other dancers do similar things, because they feel pushy, awkward, money-hungry, bitchy, etc., etc. simply asking the customer to buy what he came there to buy.

I half-agree/half-don't with the "liking the job" thing. I think it's accurate, though there are some girls who can power through it. I can think of specific girls who have been on this forum who absolutely hated dancing, but got through it and made decent money anyway. But those were girls who were doing it with a specific goal in mind (like school). I agree that if you are just trying to get by in life, but hate stripping, then the hatred can significantly affect your earnings. I understand other posters' point about how a lot of people hate their jobs, but most jobs, you get paid regardless of your attitude. You have a set list of things to accomplish and you get an hourly wage/salary whether you are smiling while doing your tasks or you grumble all through them - as long as they get done. With stripping, you are the only thing that can either make you money or not (that's within your power). If you (for the most part) enjoy yourself, you will put forth the effort and energy. If you hate everything about it, you will hold back, not work as much, and/or project a horrible aura of hate to your customers. There's bad nights, bad customers, things that everyone dreads about going to the club, but then there is downright disdain for the whole deal - and yes, I think that can totally destroy your money-making potential.
Don't try to win over the haters. You are not the Jerk Whisperer.

Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

I have never known any girl who actually "hated" dancing whom made $$ for long. The mental exhaustion it would cause would be too great. Even when feeling burned out I always find an aspect of dancing to enjoy even if its just a reason to get dressed up.

Hating men makes you see them as nothing but walking, talking wallets and keeps you focused on money instead of on "having a good time."

I make probably about $550 on average, in a club full of extras girls (I do not and will not ever do extras). The extras girls' earnings don't count, but as far as the clean dancers go, I'm easily one of the top earners at my club (probably including the extras girls, to be honest). I lead the charts in most lapdances almost every night. So my 550-ish average leads me to believe I'm in no way a shitty stripper, and neither are you.

Let's put it this way: you are averaging $500 a night; if you worked a typical American schedule, you'd be working 5 days a week, which equates to 120K a year. That's six figures, about triple what the average American makes, so if you ask me, that's GOOD money!
