Default Bump on top of foot

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that a bump had formed on the top of my left foot, I never noticed it before so I'm guessing it's a pretty recent thing. The bump is hard and feels bone-like, I'm guessing this is from dancing and possibly from the pole. Has anyone else noticed anything like this since they started dancing? I'm not sure if I should get it looked at or not as I've never had anything like this before.

I have one on my foot. I am pretty sure it happened when I was younger and dropped an antique sewing machine on top of it. It hurt a lot but my mom didn't take me to the doctors for it. I guess I walking and it didn't matter. It could be a cyst.

AND the funny part about my foot bump (it isn't that bad) is that my ex-husband told me it was annoying! He meant it.

Maybe a bunion or bone spur?
    http://www.buzzle.com/articles/bone-...p-of-foot.html
There are several reasons for why bone spurs come about. The following are some of the same.

    Age
The formation of bone spur is a common phenomenon that comes with the aging process. Spurs lead to the building of extra bone as a method of protecting and repairing itself. Bone spurs (especially on the foot) come about as a result of excessive pressure, stress, or rubbing of the area over prolonged periods.

This condition can also come about when the cartilage (the tissue covering the end of the bones and joints) begins to break down and eventually wear off. Since there is no cushioning for the bone and joints, the bone will produce an extra growth called bone spur which will also lead to joint pain.

    Running
This condition could develop as a result of running, dancing or due to any other activities which involve putting pressure and stress on the foot, thus leading to trauma and causing the spur to develop.

    Other Reasons
Spurs can also come about as a result of being overweight or wearing ill-fitting shoes. This can happen when the long ligament (plantar fascia) which is found at the bottom of the foot becomes tight and stressed. This will then cause a pull in the heel, lead to an inflammation of the ligament and ultimately form a bone spur in the foot.

Could be a ganglion cyst. I have one on my wrist. It's a small sac of fluid attached to a tendon, particularly in areas of high stress. The stuff inside is like a jelly, and the cyst is quite firm, hard even. Depends if it's a lump coming off the bone or soft tissue.

I get mine aspirated (dr sticks a needle in it and gets the stuff out) from time to time, but the only really effective cure is surgical removal.

Dr will be able to order an X-ray and see exactly what's going on.

Ive had a cyst there. It would be dry on the skin there too. It was weird. After a yr or two it disappeared on its own. I think I would make it worse by always crossing my ankles on recliner or sitting on my feet on the floor.

If you want to check before you get into a doctor's office, at-home transillumination is easy to do. You basically just turn out the lights and shine a flashlight against it. This page shows the differences in appearance between the most common causes of bumps like what you describe: http://www.eatonhand.com/img/img00087.htm

I get those from hitting the top of my feet on the bar stools when I sit at the bar. Never realized that I tap the top of my feet against them until I started getting those bumps!

I developed one of those too after switching from Knee high boots to open toe shoes. I was told it was probably a calcium build up. It only bothered me if I banged it (hanging onto the pole) and went away by itself after a week or 2. Id also had in the past calcium build up on the bottoms of my feet (ball bones of the heel/toe) this bothered me more cause of the pressure, for this: rub the bone against a golf ball, it wares down the calcium build up & hurts in a good feeling way.

Could be a calcium deposit. I had one on my knee for a long time. Like years, but now its gone.
