Default What does your hair colour say about you?

Mods, I started a thread in the lounge but it was not getting a lot of responses so I reposted it here...if that is against a rule sorry! My paper is due tonight so as many responses as possible would be amazing!

I really want to hear about how you think or don't think that your hair colour affects how you are percieved by others. In the club, otc, at home, school, work, on the street, in a regular bar, etc. So far stereotypes I have picked out from my research and survey responses to date include blondes being percieved as likable but not intelligent: some people believe that blonde adult women must be more sexually adventurous because they are making a choice to dye their hair blonde. Interesting to tie in that many exotic dancers report increased earnings as blondes as well. brunettes are being percieved as "boring" sometimes, but for the most part this seems to be the hair colour with the least negative stigma and seems to be the colour du jour for promotions to upper management positions for both men and women. Redheads according to research are overestimated in terms of ability, but are pervieced as unlikable. They are overrepresented among upper mangement positions relative to their % of the general population. Feel free to tie in earnings to hair colour if you kept track, as I can use that to measure "sexual attractiveness" quantitatively in comparison to earnings. So far I get the impression that men seem to generally be attracted to very light or very dark hair.

    Thanks

In the club world, I see a marked difference as a blonde. Make easily 30% more than with a darker tone. OTC, as a blonde, I find you get more looks and people gawking at you than with other hair colours (I have had them all) I do find I feel a bit wilder and crazier with blonde or crazy coloured hair, and more dark and moody with brunette or black. I find with crazy colours, people look at you, but try to avoid being caught doing so, more like curiosity than perving.
As far as modelling goes, by far my most popular and hire-able colour was very dark brown or black. My least desirable colours have been blonde, hot pink (photographs poorly and has contrast issues) and burgundy/purple-red.
I'm currently powder blue... so I will have to get back to everyone about that one. My club doesn't allow crazy hair colours except on Saturday nights, so I may not get to see how well blue works in the club. My guess would be great with the niche-crowd (scene kids, rockers and the odd guy who wants something the opposite end of the spectrum to what they know in their everyday lives) and terrible with the corporate, classy-girl crowd. Most of my regulars have tatts and are a bit alt, so they will all love it tho.

^Yeah I had my hair light lavender not too long ago and I was surprised by how well it was recieved. I think the pastel hues kind of bring people's fear perception down...my mom for example, who regularly comments, stares, etc at people with bright coloured hair was just like "oh your hair is purple nbd" when I came home last time...interesting and surprising.

My friend brought it up the other day when I was interviewing her for this paper, that blondes definitely get more "street attention". It explains all these random guys that I get asking me out and bothering me when I'm like...gross and in sweatpants...I thought I just attracted wierdos because while I see myself as cute, I dont see myself as really drop dead gorgeous that would warrant this kind of behaviour otherwise...I definitely plan on trying our burnette as a celebration for when my dancing days are done!

^oh yeah, come to think of it, I have had both pastel pink and lilac purple with no big issues, and no difference in $. The pink was a toning accident, and the purple was a "moment of desperation to feel like my normal "alt" self a bit more". Both were ok, as under the club lights it just looked blonde anyway. Not one customer commented on my hair being anything but blonde.

I have a theory on this actually, re-enforced by the experiences of my colleagues and fellow SW'ers. Why is it when you're dressed like crap, hair all messy and a tracksuit on, guys just can't seem to leave you alone, and it's always when you are trying hard not to be noticed, or want to fly under the radar. It always seems to be worse when you are giving off the strongest "fuck off, it's my day off" vibes.

    My theory is such:
Guys see the cute, hot (lets face it, we're strippers, and we're a mostly pretty well-kept and nicely proportioned bunch, or have something standout about ourselves) girl in gym or casual gear (that's how guys see it, casual, not sloppy. lol- Ive tested this theory with my SO many times) looking gorgeous, but not overly made up, pretty but plain, and think: "wow, that's a girl I may have a shot at. She's not too glamour, and looks relaxed and casual. I'm gonna go ask her out..."
Guy sees the same girl at a club on a Friday night, dressed in a little dress and killer heels, amazing makeup and looking like a shiny, arm candy treat, and either thinks:
"she's out of my league" or "she looks like a high maintenance bitch" (depending on the level of dressy-uppy and bitchy-ness she is presenting) or occasionally I guess they think "challenge accepted".
I've been out with the boys and pointed out girls and said, what about her (when they're single and ready to mingle) and they've gone "na, she looks too high maintenance"
So the whole appearance thing definitely has an impact. When you're relaxed, you bring yourself down to a more approachable level. Plus girls who actively think they are super mega hottt give off a vibe that puts some guys off.
That's my theory on why guys can't leave-us-the-f*ck-alone on our sloppy-cbf-leave-me-alone days.

What a great topic! I'd love to hear more responses seeing I'm not officially back to dancing (again) yet. I can only speak when I WAS dancing. I had verrryy blond hair that was long. Then I got extensions. I can't say whether my earnings were a reflection of hair color and/or length, or a result of my lifted confidence. Longer hair makes me feel very sexy and confident, and IMO it offsets my large hips, giving a balanced appearance.

However, two years ago I went much darker. At my "real job" I get attention from men, and they seem to be of a "higher caliber demographic," i.e., well educated, nice career, well groomed, etc. BUT I recently started putting clip-in extensions in, and I receive a LOT more attention. I think for me personally that color is shadowed by length.
I'd grab my trumpet and I'd do a stripper sound, like the old Louis Armstrong, real raspy. And the people would go nuts! Then I knew that the sexual, sensual, guttural sound, that throbbing sound, is where it's at.

i had dark hair and never did that well at work with it..i got a lot of " so what's your nationality?" but not too many dances.. i think it looks sexy, dramatic and brooding ( not really me)..when i went back to blond ( which i feel way more comfortable in, always been a blond) my earnings went WAYY up..i feel cute, young, with a dash sex kitten..it really catches the eye under with the lights in my work, way more than dark. I'm toying with going red, theres not one redhead at my club. i want to stand out, but at the same time I'm really myself blond so having an inner struggle. it also depends on the shade. e.i. platinum is sexy/skanky while a nice honey blond is sweet and innocent..idk just my take

That is a really interesting theory! Man the last two friday nights I went out looking a-maz-ing, on the hunt, NO SUCCESS
A couple months ago I randomly met the hottest, nicest guy, and was dressed pretty meh
So I'm going to take that whole "high maintenance bitch" thing into consideration from now on...

I was blonde for a few months and did really well with the old farts and Asian guys. Now that my hair is purple I get a shitload of young white guys getting dances with me. They all think I look like Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop. She has a violet bob and big boobs.
