3 weeks ago I had an audition at a club downtown Seattle. for some reason the waitresses at the club were allowed to enter and of course two of them won. anyone can dance fast and do cool tricks when you are in converse flats and actually work in a club. I went upstairs to get my bag and the manager offered these girls entertaining jobs at the club and both of them said no. I dont understand why they even tried out then but aside from that I was told to call the manager lady the next day and tell her how it went. so I did, then went in to talk to her. and she told me to go get my license and come back so we can start me. but it was thanksgiving weekend so all the buildings I needed to go to were closed and only open at the most inconvenient hours. So I waited for the weekend to pass and skipped class on tuesday to go down and get this 120$ license.
I called her on Wed. to tell her and she said to come in Thursday, yesterday to talk to her. So I went in and she looks over my license and said the club has a certain "look" they like to uphold for the customers they attract and that I'm not really the fit. aka Im flat out too fat to work at this club is what she was saying. I am 35 hips, 33 waist, and 42 bust. I dont think you have to have a 24" waist to be attractive these days and I know how to dance, but she was not having it. so then she sent me up the street to a fat girl club where I had to pay for parking and ended up waiting at least 15 min for anyone to help me and was still waiting to talk to that manager. now becoming late for my actual job as management kept ignoring me in what seemed to be one of the darkest clubs I have ever been in. Every booth had a pole on it, there was no center stage just one kind of in the back with 3 poles on it, and I think it was pretty clear how the girls made their money there and Ive heard that it is a dirty club and it has been raided many times. So I left and on my way out there was 2 police cars parked right outside, can't tell if that was a good thing or a bad thing. But I think this whole thing has been extremely ridiculous and I have no clue why it is so difficult to get a job at a club.
I hope someone reads this and can tell me what the deal is or if I'm just completely in the wrong and actually am fat for this industry.
But all in all I guess its been a lesson learned and money wasted, I have 7 days to make tuition money now after attempting to get into the business 4 weeks ago and I know I wont make it figuring nobody will hire me. But I think that if I was too fat she could have told me before I wasted 120$ on a license that expires at the end of December anyways.
This whole thing has been frustrating and what seems to be a huge hassle, when I was stoked to dance locally and finally be ahead of the game.
Its just my experience, and it may be just because I live in Washington and club rules are ridiculous here.
But if anyone has any opinions I would like to hear them. Now I am resorting to camming, I just hope its not as sneaky as hands on club work.
