First off, this is the most amazing and hilarous review of that book ever!
    http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/340987215?

It pretty much says what I feel about that book.

I thought it was pretty terrible. The characters were bland, and their relationship was ridiculously unhealthy. I could have forgiven that, but the sex scenes were also really bland. There's definitely way better erotica out there.

I also find it creepy how popular the book is, considering it's pretty much about a naive young woman having her life taken over by some hot rich guy and being abused. Also, I don't care if it's a best seller, don't read porn in public.

Lisasmithy your link does not download a .pdf file but something else, appearing to be part one of a three part .pdf file.

I might let this slide but your post in Picture Post has a link to an .exe file, NOT a .jpg and that could be a virus.

You have a few hours to explain what the deal is, why you are posting weird links on SW.

I read this after a lot of people recommended it to me. HORRIBLE! Had I known it started out as Twilight fan fiction, I wouldn't have bothered. It's a pretty painful read. Terrible writing.

The GoodReads review is too funny!

This link was suggested to me when my curiosity was about to get the best of me and it saved me much, much pain: http://jenniferarmintrout.blogspot.c...s-of-grey.html

I read a lot and am a regular at the library. I probably read 5 books a week easily if not more. However I will not touch this book because it sounds like a piece of shit. I'm saying this as someone who will read cheesy light books but even those have a value. One of the women in the book club recommended this so I suspect this will be a book club book eventually, ugh.

The plot of the first two books was interesting and different. It was just very poorly written and repetative in the wording.

The third book just seemed like a wild goose chase for no reason other than an excuse to have a third book.

The thing that suprised me the most was how people thought it was so extremely kinky. To me the book was sexually tame. If you bought a blind fold and some silk ties you too could be fifty shades of wtfever.

Not surprised at all to hear the book was actually pretty tame.

From what I've heard the Memoirs of the the Marquis de Sade would probably be about 50 times better. I still haven't read it because i am not all that much into bondage. Unless the girl asks for it in which case sure, I'll make her do whatever I say lol.

Sade's actual memoirs are more sad and depressing then erotic.

But his writings are much better. They are filled with orgies and impossible sexual situations that just take your breath away.

Very interesting link- I heard the crap about it being from a Twilight fan before reading it, so luckily, I escaped the whirlwind.
    Also, check this out- http://jenniferarmintrout.blogspot.c...tionships.html
Same blog and writer, but a different take on the book.
She/he writes, "Others say that obviously, they wouldn't want Christian Grey in real life, but it's the fantasy they're enjoying. What fantasy? I fully support fantasizing about a man who takes control in the bedroom. I cannot, for the life of me, understand how it would be enjoyable to fantasize about a man who takes control in all aspects of your life"
And I agree- I've been with a person who did this and grew up with someone who did this, controlled me and every aspect of my life- every. minute. of. my. life. was planned and controlled. And it's terrifying, and your spirit is crushed from it. I absolutely hate that this book is so popular when it basically promotes domestic (emotional) abuse. This world is f'd up if women are fantasizing about the type of terror I lived through for 5 years.
Screw you, E.L. James. And how F***ed up do you have to be to write that kind of shit?

...sorry ladies... just... infuriates me. And makes me scared from flashbacks just from reading the reviews...

She's not fucked up; she's ignorant. Easy to write something from a mistaken POV when you have no fucking clue WTF you're actually talking about.

I think it appeals to women who have never heard of S&M. My first reaction was that this has existed like forever. Plus, the fact that Damon from Vampire Diaries was in the movie helps. Even I might do him. lol
