The most controversial publicity for a strip club I've heard of involved the South African chain Teazers in 2009. Shortly after local female athlete Caster Semenya was the subject of a gender test following her win in the 800m event at the World Athletics Championships, the club ran a high-profile billboard campaign titled "No need for gender testing" over an image of a busty blonde dancer.
There were protests about the advertisement, which was withdrawn after a ruling by the country's Advertising Standards Authority.
