Anyone planning to see it?
I'm not a big fan of musicals as a rule, but Les Misérables is one of the rare musicals I enjoy. Not planning to see the movie however after finding out the actors, such as Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, sing their own material.
If you have seen the caliber of singers this musical attracts, you'll be let down by hearing Jackman and crew singing. That's not a knock on Jackman, Crowe, or others singing abilities per se, but once you have seen/heard someone like Alfie Boe singing, you know none of these movie stars can hold a candle to that standard.
Before I was too hard on them, I went to sample the music from the movie (now on Itunes) and as expected, none of them were terrible singers.
But...Here's Alfie Boe doing "Bring him home" from the 25th anniversary performance of Les Misérables for example, which blows me away each time:

I'd say if you have not seen the really top end singers performing this musical, then maybe you'll enjoy it, but for me, the standard too high to see this movie knowing it won't be even close to what I have heard and no amount of movie scenery can change that.
Conclusion; Rent the 25th anniversary of Les Misérables on BluRay if you like the music (It's great BTW!), leave the movie for those who like those actors and don't care so much about the singing.
