Was catching up on my Cable T.V. watching, and stumbled across that show CALIFORNICATION on showtime (with dvr)
Watched an episode where one of the actors says he is obsessed with masturbating, and webcam girls-He mentions that he can get a cam girl to do ANYTHING for a low price per minute, and was bragging that he EVEN got her to Pee in a cup!
Don't know when this was originally aired, but, of ALL the things he could have mentioned, why the f...k did he have to mention it's cheap, and that girls pee!
It probably was originally aired around 2 or 3 months ago when it seemed that every other free chat guy was asking me to pee!
Why, oh, why didn't the actor say that cam girls are awesome, it's a bit expensive , but so worth it, and it is the best virtual sex a guy can have? Geez!
It would be awesome if someone who has cammed would write a script for a cable network that paints it the way it really is- You Know, the sexy and fun prt of it.
Oh, o.k, I'll write it-I could use some of that Crazy Enteertainment money!

Fridays, we DO need to change this.

We don't want a reputation for being cheap, and easily persuaded or haggled to do things we may not want to do, or be against the terms of our sites.
We can all see to it that this doesn't happen by ensuring our rates are high.

The thing is, if girls charge peanuts for their shows, are they going to last? Are they going to want to stick around? If they don't do that well, they won't rise to the top and they are more likely to burn out. If they do earn a lot, but for LONG hours work through freeloaders for little pay-per-hour, we need to show them that raising their prices isn't going to cause anything bad to happen! Just more $$$$ and more pay for less time.

I don't want my work to be associated with a load of negative shit. I don't think any of us do - because we don't deserve it!

Models charging cheap is not going to change. Its not US/Canadian models charging low [unless 1.: they are being pimped/trafficked, or 2.: they just don't realize they can charge more (usually newbies)]. Its normally like Russian models who, when you covert their money to US dollars, it ends up being a lot of $$$ to them. I mean c'mon, we all know that cam score/placement is almost solely dependent on how much you make per hour, and you can only make the most when you have higher or at least mid-range (<-- in group mode) prices.

Well if it's the character I think she means (I haven't watched the show in a while) he's supposed to be an asshole, so of course his character isn't going to say good things, about any women. In that case it's not always about what the creator thinks but what they want their character to think. This is the write in me talking but what my character says doesn't have anything to do with what I think. It has to do with what I believe my character thinks.

I'm so used to seeing so much anti-sex-industry stuff in tv and movies that this is almost like water off a duck's back. Yes, it SUCKS, and yes, I would love to see sex workers being cast and considered in a more positive light...but I don't think that this is an exception or even a particularly bad one.

Watch any major tv show, and at some point you will come accross an episode mentioning strippers (usually), escorts, porn stars or (now that we are becoming more "mainstream", I guess) camgirls. And usually that episode will allude to negative stereotypes - that the sex industry is something that only damaged, broken women do, that it is a last resort, that it is the worst way to end up, and that women in the industry are sluts who will do anything for money. Sometimes it is a very obvious statement, and sometimes it is much more subtle.

It's a bit of a vicious circle - TV both reflects and shapes societal attitudes, and it can be a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation. Would changing scripts to show camgirls as expensive and worth it change the attitude toward camgirls? Or would a changing attitude mean that negative scripts are no longer written?

On a positive note, I have seen that things are beginning to change, especially in the media. FINALLY, I am seeing truly positive portrayals of women in the industry, although few and far between still - two that leap to mind are (obviously) "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" made into a tv show - brought the idea of escorting as a legitimate profession forward by leaps and bounds! Also - "How I Met Your Mother" recently introduced a character for a few episodes who was a stripper - and I wanted to jump up and down clapping when I saw her portrayed fairly accurately - especially when she was clear that she was not ashamed, not hiding, and did not need to be rescued!! There was also a recent movie "For A Good Time Call" about PSOs, but I haven't seen it, so can't comment.

Summing up my GIANT ramble (this is an issue pretty close to my heart!) - I feel like things are starting to change for the better, and media portrayals are starting to move in a better direction. We just have to keep it going that direction!!

I'm with MR on this one. Sex workers are usually depicted pretty poorly in the media. But I do see that slowly beginning to change. If it was Hank (Duchovny) saying this, it wouldn't be out of character for him. He isn't known for being kind to women and has a reputation as a womanizer who frequents sex workers of all types. He could have been a lot crueler.... And girls do pee on cam. I don't on my site, but I do in clips (and it's legal for the clips). Plus, the low cost is relative, because at times, Hank spends ridiculous amounts of money on all kinds of things. I agree that it's frustrating, but I doubt it really created an upswing in guys requesting cheap peeing in our rooms.

If sexworkers start being positively portrayed, you do realize everyone and their mother (literally!) will start doing it right? Whether in place of their 9-5 or in addition to it. Trust me, you WANT the bad reputation.

I have to respectfully disagree....because I just don't see it. Essentially, I think that this is just like any other industry - it suits some people, some people are good at it and interested in it, and some people aren't. Just because lawyers are always considered a "good job" and very high paying, it certainly doesn't mean that everyone goes into law! Because it is hard work - and so is the sex industry! Especially camming - it CAN be incredibly lucrative, but it is still incredibly hard work! Acting, singing, all of the "celeb" occupations - seen as incredibly lucrative, fairly "easy" - and there are a lot of people who want to do that - but there are also a LOT of people (myself included) who would HATE to be a famous singer.

I feel like if the sex industry was truly accepted as "just another industry", and portrayed ACCURATELY, it wouldn't mean that everyone would flock to it - there are a lot of people who still wouldn't want to do it, and would prefer to do other things. If it was ACCURATELY portrayed as hard work that CAN be lucrative, rather than "piss around in your pjs for an hour and make a bajillion dollars", it may actually mean that LESS people try to enter the industry for the easy money, and more people enter the industry for a true interest in sex work.

And honestly, even if it did flood the industry - well, it would be worth it. To know that I can do the job I love without being looked down on, without it affecting my ability to adopt or foster children, without worrying about how it would "look" in court, or when meeting someone. Without fear that police would not take rape or stalking claims seriously, or would not put as much effort into a murder investigation because I am "just a sex worker". To know that I can be honest with landlords, banks, insurance companies, passport applications, and border control. To simply be able to do the job I love without QUITE as many online death threats and hate mail. Wouldn't that be worth a little more competition?

Most people I know WOULD do it if it weren't for the Shelley Lubben reputation of porn sets being unprofessional, being beaten by pimp directors (lol), and things like that. Most don't even know camming exists. They don't know about geoblock, working from home, etc. Weigh the pros and cons here. In addition, many people would do it out of necessity because it pays reeeeeally well, it requires no education, it requires little to no start up $$$, its flexible, and doesn't really require any brain power. All work is hard work. I mean, its work! But it has far too many advantages for most for most girls to just turn it down.

Fuck, I mean I would probably go into law if it didn't require education (law school), if that schooling didn't cost money, and if I could be guaranteed around $100 an hour or more whenever I chose to work (chose to practice law), as much as I wanted, when I wanted to. I would totally do that. Just as I feel like most women, if told about the advantages of camming (geoblock, anonymity, working from home whenever you want for as long as you want, often 3 figure hourly wages, the ability to be paid daily if I wanted, the ability to keep it a secret) then I would totally do it! Just like so many people I know.

I mean, as porn has become more socially accepted over the last 10 years, the actual porn industry has become flooded with girls. The same thing with stripping. The same thing with escorting. Its becoming ~*cool*~ and more socially accepted. That's whats leading to the flood of girls in all arenas, which means smaller pieces of the same pie to go around. If you build a brand you're okay, but otherwise, when camming becomes a known money-maker, most girls will be fucked.

** It wasn't Hank Moody's character-it was baldy agent-(forgot his name) that was in the scene- He was telling Hank, and EVEN, lovable Hank was appalled at baldys behavior toward women.
I LOVE MOODY! I'd do him! I used to see him around L.A.,with Tea leoni (his wife),, when I lived there, and always thought he is sexy as anything-even in person.
All I know is that I lost friends went I started camming, because they were sooo judgemental, but as I had posted a while back about those girls, the ONLY thing they talked about when we got together was the last one-night stand they just had, and that they were horny all the time, and NEEDED to get laid! B-O-R-I-N-G!!!! I can have cock anytime I want, so it NEVER interested me. I need a deeper connection than that, at this stage in my life. But I thought they were my friends, so I just listened.
Needless to say, I keep 'My mind on my money, and my money on my mind!'
SIDEBAR-Just re-rented the movie 'Magic Mike yesterday, and will be going to the nearest male revue show this weekend! Now THAT"S what I call-ENTERTAINMENT!!! LOL!
Maybe a few female strip clubs, as I will be touring in a couple of weeks again, after a long hiatus, and have to see what the gals are doing, so I can have my 'game' together once I get to Vegas.

Sometimes the extra-low pricing by models from certain countries is not their fault. Most sites only let them work under "special conditions", i.e. lower percentage and/or prices, and they aren't allowed to set it to the same level as with models from the US/UK/Canada.
