I havnt had it done, but take it for what its worth, I know 3 people who have, and they have nothing but good things to say about it...two of them are in their 60's, the other one is in their 30's...and whenever my contacts are bugging me, or Im whining how I look like a dork in my glasses, they launch into their spiel over how much they loved lasik and I should get it done.
Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink!

I got mine done in June and I am SOOOO SOOO SOOOOOOO happy that I did it. I highly recommend it to anyone that is considering it. I always wore contacts and after 11 years of wearing them I decided I was too sick of dealing with painful eyes all the time. I went to a place called the Lasik Vision Institute and during my consultation, they told me that I would have to wear my regular glasses for 7 days prior to the surgery and that it would cost me $899 per eye. (My prescription was -2.00 in both eyes.) I thought that was too expensive and I didn't want to wear my glasses to work for a week, so I left. But then they called me a few days later and said they would do it for $599/eye for the traditional LASIK (vs. Custom) if I scheduled my surgery for a specific date, so I decided to do it. The day of the surgery, they did all of my pre-op testing and had to dilate my eyes. Then, they said they had to wait for the dilation to go down before they could do the surgery, so I had to wait around for several very very long hours waiting. I was very very scared and they did not give me any valium or xanax or anything but they did offer to write me a script for one but I would have to go fill it myself. Well, I didn't have my car (you can't drive yourself there), so I didn't know how I would fill it, so I said no. Finally I went into the surgery area at 3pm after I had gotten there at 9am. There was a group of like 6 of us getting done all at the same time, and they told us what to expect. I was probably about to PEE MY PANTS at this time, but let me tell you, once they put those numbing drops in your eyes, you don't feel anything at all, except maybe the pressure of the ring they set on your eye to hold it steady, and the freakiest thing is when they peel the flap over and your vision goes dark...THAT is so scary. But the surgeon was very very good about explaining everything as he did it and it really did take only like 3-4 minutes. They say it will feel like you have sand in your eyes right after, but mine was not bad at all. I just went home and took a 3 hour nap and woke up...and I could see perfectly!!! My eyes were very dry for about a month or two afterwards and I had to use those expensive eyedrops all the time. Also, my night vision was pretty bad for the first month, too. It was VERY hard to drive at night for the first few weeks. My eyes are no longer super dry, and my night vision is pretty much all better except that oncoming headlights can seem a little too bright sometimes. I would definitely say to go for it! AND, I was so scared that I would lose a ton of money by having to wear my glasses and no eye makeup for a week, but I actually made a little bit more than usual....there are a LOT of guys into glasses lol. I hope that you do decide to do it, because it is one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I feel it is well worth the money and sacrificing my eye makeup for a week lol! It is SO awesome to wake up in the mornings and be able to see the time on the alarm clock without fumbling for glasses or just grabbing my phone and looking at the time on that.

^Wow. Less thank $1k/eye? I'm looking at $3800, at least.
My optometrist referred me to a place in Houston, and I plan to get it done in the next year or so. He told me about being in the room during a procedure in which the blade jammed, so now I'm too paranoid to go with the cheaper option, though hardly anyone offers it around here anymore...
I just saw an ad for 500 an eye in Houston. Tuesday, you should ook around a bit more.

Yeah, I saw a Google banner ad for the Lasik Vision Institute advertising the procedure for as low as $299/eye and I was super skeptical so I read their Yelp reviews and it was actually true for some people who left very satisfied. That's why when they quoted me $899/eye for my eyes, I was disappointed and left the office since I didn't think my -2.00 prescription was that bad in the realm of corrective lenses lol. Anyways, I am so happy with my results I would say to just find a reputable doctor and pay what you have to because it is very worth it in the end.

I did mine 2 years ago and I overpaid at 5,000, and although I wish I paid less, it was the best money I have EVER spent in my life! I was nearsighted since the 4th grade and it gradually got worse over the years, my vision was at -8.00 - thats close to being legally blind! I had to wear contacts 8 hours a day so my eyes were dry, tired and red by the time I took them off, and just to do anything I had these huge thick coke bottle glasses on around at home. It was super heavy. After I got lasik, a year later they tested me at 15/15 vision - wow! I have had zero problems with it whatsoever.
